Absolutely great location, nice clean room with updated decor, kitchen, and modern amenities, beautiful grounds, plenty of outdoor seating, easy to check out beach equipment, and friendly staff. The only reason I cant give it 5 stars is the severe lack of on-site parking. Its very inconvenient and frustrating to search the streets for unsecured parking if you have to drive anywhere during your stay.

The resort staff, especially the housekeeping staff, are very friendly and work hard all day keeping the resort clean. We loved that beach chairs, towels, umbrellas, as well as body and surfboards are provided free of charge to the guests. We had a great relaxing time here and enjoyed the delicious local restaurants all within walking distance. Thank you for the wonderful stay.

The resort is awesome!! Very friendly staff, and the grounds are just plain beautiful!! Makes you think you are on a tropical island!! Beau at the front desk went above and beyond meeting our needs, and even took pics of our family for us!! We will be back next year!!

Great beach, waves were great and water not too cold. Kids had a blast and the sunsets never disappointed. We come here every year and it never gets old. Best is to grab lunch at Cessys and eat at the beach.

Its a magical place, with magical people and you transport yourself in a tropical bliss. I met so many nice people and it felt like a big family. The owner and his son Beau are sweet, kind and super hansome and helpful! I would go back there in a minute and miss them already. Everything was excellent! Thank you Ocean Palms rocksters!

Love this place. Have stayed here about 4-5 times over the last few years. The beach is across the street and walking distance to all of the shops and restaurants of Carlsbad Village. Beds are comfy, nice amenities, etc etc. It is a far more bohemian feel than corporate clone. The staff are great, with high marks to the cleaners. They are incredibly nice.

Absolutely loved this place. The rooms were clean, had fun tropical vibes, and were very kid friendly. Loved all the tikis and palm trees. Also awesome location right next to the beach and easily walkable to tons of good stuff in downtown Carlsbad. Had a wonderful staycation and felt like we were transported to tropical get away!

Spilled coffee on bedding. Notified housekeeping immediately. They stated they would not change the bed and instead gave us sheets to do it ourselves. I offered to rinse it in the room. We were instructed to leave the soiled sheets; however, two days later after we were home we were telephoned and advised we would be charged for bedding. When I attempted to discuss it, resort staff hung up on me. The pool and hot tub have droppings from the trees in them. Our room was never cleaned and we had to collect towels and exchange with housekeeping daily. Normally I’d let these things go but after the treatment we received at the end others should be warned.

I have been going to this place Since I was a little kid. And by far one of the best hotels I have stayed at before renovations and after renovations . Will continue the family tradition of going to this hotel every year .

We only live a few miles away but this felt like a tropical paradise. What a way to spend a night for your anniversary. We love this hotel because every time you come, its consistently awesome. The rooms are spotless, the bed is so comfortable, The AC in the room is phenomenal and the pool area makes you feel like youre in Hawaii. PLUS, youre steps from some of the best beaches cali has to offer and a quick walk to anything you might want or need.

Front desk called to check my arrival time since they close at 10:30 PM. Waited an extra 15 minutes for us to arrive. Was very nice and easy to deal with. Parking lot was full and he moved his personal vehicle to provide a parking spot. Great room. Right at the beach. Close to everything. Will recommend and stay there again!

The entire place made me feel like Im really on vacation. The hot tub and the pool area is very nice. The fire pits at night = great hangout! The staff is so chill (hey this IS surfing territory!). Close to everything (our LYFT rides are all under $10 to Flower Fields, malls, the lagoon...) and walking distance to great restaurants, bus/train stations, and of course THE BEACH! Coffee and snacks available 24-7, and breakfast of toasted bagels, juices, yogurts etc all free. I can go on and on and I cant recommend this place enough!

Close ro the beach, quaint location. Many travelers come here year after year to enjoy the ambiance. This isnt the most luxuruous hotel in Carlsbad. It IS family owned and family friendly. Get a one or two bedroom suite on Ocean Street mant people-watch from your private spa.

Our family loves this place! We’ve stayed in a handful of hotels/motels in the Carlsbad area and Ocean Palms Beach Resort is hands down our favorite. It’s clean. Creatively decorated. And feels like home. The tropical vibe is amazing and the attention to detail is unmatched. We’ve found nothing like this, not to mention the price is not bad either

We were not treated well last time we visited. They changed our room without consent, the bathroom was way too small, we will not be back again. For the cost we have may other options and will likely be treated better.

This wonderful little gem is the most welcoming hotel on the beach. Our family loves it here and our puppies are always welcome. The staff is so friendly and accommodating and the rooms are just perfect. I 100% recommend this beautiful Ocean Palms Beach Resort hotel to anyone who is looking for a quick tropical paradise getaway or an extended stay. You will not regret this decision.

I liked the areas available to sit outside. The grounds are beautifully maintained.

Location is perfect. Right on the beach. Front desk has it all. Beach toys, excellent service ect. Bed is comfortable and everything is clean and updated. Walking distance to everything. Kitchen came in handy with the little one. Will stay again!

The landscaping is awesome. The rooms are very clean and well done. They even have grills outside near your room. They also have fire pits you can enjoy at night.

Best place in Carlsbad tropical setting definitely a taste of Hawaii

The Ocean Palm Beach Resort in Carlsbad California haves beautiful land scape property. The employees are friendly, kind, helpful. The rooms are absolutely clean. They supply you with shampoo conditioner and soap. They have a remarkable big swimming pool. In good location. Near by restaurants, shopping, entertaining . In good location. I have a beautiful remarkable fun time there will return soon.

We stayed at this resort for 3 nights! Amazing staff and really clean room with kitchen and a pull out sofa! Really relaxing atmosphere however access to the beach with kids is not friendly ! There is a lengthy stairs to get to shore! Also no elevators for 2nd floor rooms! But overall we like the place!

The location of the hotel is perfect and the staff were nice but the room is not really as nice as the pictures. May be our room is in a bad location of the hotel! We just have two plastic chair and one table in front of our room but at the other side of the hotel were nice tables and chairs which you see in the pictures in the websites. Overall l liked our trip out there.

I certainly love the beach

My husband and stayed for a weekend getaway and loved it! First we were able to check in earlier. Everyone especially the front desk Jose is really friendly and made us feel welcomed. The resort was beautiful with many flowers and outdoor seating. Location is perfect. Steps away from Carlsbad beach. We saw dolphins both days. It’s a wonderful experience.

We spent a lot of time looking at places to visit Carlsbad. We looked for somewhere close to and with easy access to the beach. When we found this place we decided we would pay a lot more for the accessibility. Little did we know it would turn into a NIGHTMARE! There was construction and a porta-potty right outside our room, there was construction every morning, and our beach view was blocked by a crane, a dump truck, and a chain link fence. The beach access stairway was under construction so we had to walk blocks down the road to get to the beach. While I understand that is out of the hotels control, it would be nice if they let people know there was something going on so it wouldnt affect our trip. That was just the start of the down slide of our trip there.The staff was unhelpful, rude, annoyed at having to deal with their customers, and unprofessional. Any time we had to deal with them it was like we were a nuisance and wed either get a huff and puff or a roll of the eyes.Like other posts talk about, everything is nickeled-and-dimed; you want a mint, itll cost ya! Everything there is pricey. Furniture and paint are chipped, cracked, squeaky, wobbly, etc. Parking, good luck finding a spot for guests. We love Carlsbad but the area right around there is a tourist trap (tacky and shady businesses just like this one). Breakfast and snacks/ coffee are the cheapest they can get and not taken care of. The walls were paper thin and we could hear nearly every word of anyone walking by or in the rooms next door.We would not recommend this place. Seems like theyre in it for the money not the hospitality.

Rooms are clean and the outside is very well maintained. 128 and 129 are the rooms closest to the beach so you have imediate access to beach. I have not one complaint as they accommodated all my needs. Thanks everyone

Super nice location. Wish I was staying for a week. A stone throw from the beach, right off the main blvd, easy to find. Rooms are 100% legit. Lovely grounds. If you find a reason to stay in Carlsbad for a few nights, I highly recommend this resort.

My family booked the long veterans day week end at Ocean Palms.WE reserved thier 3 bedroom suite and it was all we could have asked for.The suite was incredibly appointed with comfortable beds, unique furniture, custom bath rooms, and impressive Murals throughout the unit.The staff was accomodating and the location could not be better. we would walk accross the street to the beach. The evening walks were safe with lots of friendly people along the way.The entire family was sad to leave our weekend in paradise.

The Unit was big enough for the two of us & our two large dogs. The view from the living room was outstanding, only paled by the view from the balcony!!The Unit was a bit outdated, but clean! I pulled in my gravity chair to sit on, only the futon/pull out couch to sit in.We will definitely work with McLain Propertys again & plan on making more trips to Carlsbad! Dorothy was very helpful every step

Great hotel near the beach in Carlsbad. Its not fancy. It is clean and well maintained. The grounds are beautiful and lush, with a very inviting outdoor seating area with firepits. Also a lovely and large pool area with a spa. Located in the center of Carlsbad within easy walking distance of shops and restaurants.Updated September 2019: This no longer is my favorite hotel in Carlsbad. Management has changed their reservation policy requiring non-refundable payment in-full when booking a room. Even though our family had stayed previously 3-4 times, I was told their was no exceptions to this policy. Spoke with the clerk at the front desk and also a manager about this issue.

Definitely not worth the price - $300+ plus a night to listen to neighbors thru a sliding door in room that remains locked and light shines through (was not told this prior) - inadequate parking on grounds - pictures do not reflect how the actual grounds look, stairs to level two are shaky in places and carpet warn and wet from air conditioners. Was looking forward to staying for some R&R with husband booked two days and couldnt cancel upon arriving - kids running up and down the hallway, etc on the 2nd level and more. Sit on edge of bed the upper part raises from the ground, shower doors were dirty - jacuzzi tub fits one person. Brought concerns up upon leaving at 7:15 am in the morning about noise - since we didnt get any sleep the night prior due to neighbors and no help after 11:00 pm - only response was we will let the occupant know there was a complaint. We stay at a lot of places for business and pleasure - definitely will not be coming back.

Nice quaint hotel across from beach. No view though. This hotel advertises AC, but only has window units in the living area. None in the bedrooms. Family was miserable here. Felt misled. Rooms are extremely small too. Great location and the use of beach gear was awesome. Just cant ignore paying for a room only to sweat yourself to sleep.

One of my favorite hotels Ive ever stayed at. The rooms are awesome with very beachy decor and right next to the beach as well. We had the least expensive room in the place and it still felt pretty luxurious. It is not the least expensive place in town but you get what you pay for. I would absolutely stay here again at some point.

Great place, right on the beach and walking distance to everything. The staff is so nice with quality guest service, which is hard to find now a days. Their gym kind of sucks. But you can take the weights outside and make your own mini gym. I will come back for sure.

Im staying at the Ocean Palms right now and have booked 2 nights. Before I booked my room, I e-mailed the hotel to ask about cleaning products and laundry soap, which I have to do wherever I stay when I travel because I have some environmental sensitivity to scented products. I was happy to receive a response that they use EcoLab soap -a product I know to be unscented, or lightly and naturally scented - no problem, I can do that. Unfortunately, the room I booked was moldy - a strong smell of mold, not just slightly mildewed. The only option for a less smelly room was an upgrade in price. Thats really unfortunate when a room is needing repair or renovation because of mold that a guest has to pay more to sleep in a healthier room. The place is in a good location and is nicely appointed, nice tiling in bathroom and kitchenette area but when a company remodels those rooms, they should also take care of whatever is causing the moisture problem and mold. After I wrote this, the manager contacted me and offered to refund the extra cost of upgrading to a room that did not smell so much of mold, so I am happy for the considerate response. Changing my review to 4 stars.

Decent place to stay. Very close to beach. Rooms are nice & well-maintained. Boogie boards, umbrellas, & chairs available to take to the beach. Pool was not available during our stay & hot tub was not as hot as it should have been. Staff was generally helpful & friendly.

Stopped by this place on my West coast get away,not Bad.

We have stayed here quite a few times over the last five years.A range of apartments set in lovely gardens that are well maintained.The accommodation is just a few yards away from the lovely beaches.We tend to come in the winter when it is quiet.The rooms are not particularly sound proof so I think it could be noisy in the height of the season. Otherwise a great place to stay.

Honestly one of the worst vacations that I have ever had to endure. Not family friendly and staff is really unpleasant. Unprofessional staff. There’s a video on You Tube with the staff showing their true colors. Have a family? Avoid this place!

My family has been coming here for YEARS! Wouldnt want to stay anywhere else. They give you everything you need for the beach. They are always so kind and accommodating. The location is amazing. You just cant beat it. 30 years and counting!

Just amazing

The staff was super friendly and kind. We got a free upgrade to a king suite to celebrate my boyfriends birthday. We loved the room and the grounds (so much attention to detail!). We asked to see a couple of the villas and other rooms available for the possibility of hosting events later and they were all different and amazing. We loved the location - right across the beach and walking distance from downtown Carlsbad. We will definitely be back and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

We were very impressed with the view and the room! Everything was clean and well taken care of. We most definitely will be back!

The front desk staff was genuine and incredibly helpful. Jose gave us excellent restaurant recommendations and made sure we knew how to get there. There are many complimentary services like beach chairs, towels, and boogie boards. There is a light healthy breakfast and the pool and hot tub make a great experience. Less than a block away from the beach! The grounds are beautiful, all around a great stay!

Family booked room on Orbitz. After checkin noticed room wasn’t as described per website but it was there only room left. Disappointed but was tired and just accepted it. Went to dinner and during dinner received email from Orbitz with happy face and unhappy face saying “how was check in experience.” Clicked unhappy face and a few other boxes giving honest feedback. Within 30 mins received phone call DURING DINNER saying they don’t want unhappy guests and she stated we want you to check out by 9pm or we’ll have security check you out and have ur things at office. Basically kicked out of hotel room after checkin for making Orbitz review. This hotel is obviously bottom of the pot for common decency. This phone call also ruined our dinner and entire Carlsbad vacation making a scrambling mess to find another hotel at 9pm on a Friday night. The hotel Mgmt is sick and cares about one thing money money money. It’s sad there are humans this horrible on the planet. They should be sued for the stress they caused and ruining vacation. I’m following up with Orbitz requesting this hotel be removed from the platform.

Very nice place to stay

This resort is fantastic. We definitely give them 5 out of 5. I think the one item would recommend to you to perhaps examine is the mattress in room 116. I know everybody has different preferences when it comes to mattresses but I think you may want to double check on that mattress as it was a tad uncomfortable. Hard to satisfy everybody on this subject I imagine. Thank you again for an exceptional stay in Carlsbad, we will be back.

The ocean palms beach resort is a great place to stay. It is hop skip and and jump away from the ocean. 20 steps away and ur on the beach. The rooms are very clean and safe like a home. This great overnight stay will definitely have me come back and relax.

Pool and sauna were amazing, as well as the room service. I stayed in room 209 on July 17th. Would definitely stay again

This place is fantastic. I have been coming here annually since my youth. I have so many fond memories of Ocean Palms. They have renovated to perfection. The rooms are very vibrant, quiet, peacful, and everything you need is provided. I love the location, for across the street is the calming ocean. I will continue this tradition as well as my children.

Very nice place to stay. Lots of restaurants within walking distance and the beach is across the street. The only complaint are the small bugs I found in the kitchen and bathtub.

Popular hotel with families. It was very close to accesses to the beach and in the heart of Carlsbad Village. Since just off the main drag, the rooms were quiet in the evenings and throughout the night.Hotel lobby offers refreshments throughout the day.
