Our favorite trail in the area. Has many views, facing different directions along the trail to really see the area. PLEASE do yourself a favor and continue to follow the trail past the summit. It is marked. That ledge is the best view in the immediate area, in my opinion.

I have been hiking Bald Mountain since 1982. The preservation of this precious summit is a blessing, as can be seen by looking around at the the damage done to the surrounding ones, including the legendary Hatchet Mountain in Hope. Hopefully no one else will build fires up there either, the damage to the summit stone will endure for centuries. It is a sacred place with a nearly forgotten history, and one that rewards quiet contemplation and listening. From the summit it is possible on a clear day to see Mount Washington in New Hampshire! There are few other places that allow for such a view, and much of the coast of Maine and many islands are clearly visible. It is also a spectacular place to view events such as lunar eclipses. I will be forever grateful for the preservation of this extremely special mountain. Oh, Ragged Mountain is cool too I suppose.

This has quickly become our favorite family hike. Our kids (4 & 8) love the bridges and climbing up the rocky areas.

Great 2.5 mile round trip hike to the peak, with great views of Hosmer Pond, Camden Hills, and even Penobscot Bay. Blueberry patches on the way will provide sustenance in midsummer!

Wonderful hiking trail. Easy parking right on Barnestown road. The trail is not too difficult and has wonderful views at many points. The view from the top is well worth it and there are several great spots to have a picnic.

I love Bald Mountain. I have hiked it many times and plan on hiking it many more. I enjoy the hike up since it provides multiple viewpoints on the ascent. The life on the farm below provide soothing background songs. Although not a long hike from the Barnestown parking lot to the peak (more than a mile but less than a mile and a half,) it is strenuous enough to create a feeling accomplishment. Although the features throughout the hike provide many rewards, the view from the top is the bonus for the effort.

Excellent short hike, but possibly more strenuous than moderate for inexperienced hikers or people who arent in great shape. My 65-yo mother-in-law found it too difficult to complete and waited at one of the many exposed spots for us to scramble to the top and back. A few steep spots where youll depend on the treads of your shoes to get you up or down rock surfaces so if its wet youll want to consider your footwear. Beautiful views of Penobscot Bay and blueberry fields. Cant recommend this quick hike enough.
