Superb mineral museum and the curator is a gem too. The layout is perfect with lots of useful detail added without being overwhelming. I’ve been to mineral exhibits around the world where they are mostly endless displays of every known mineral but with very little useful context. This exhibit is centered on Montana but shows how Montana geology is linked nearby as well as terrestrially.I particularly liked the display on mineral characteristics with examples for each.

A great place to check out the history of mining in Butte Montana. Its a step back in time. Make sure you go visit the Granite Mountain Memorial. Has a great or review of the working mine and a good history lesson of the danger & tragedies that befall the miners.

Hidden gem of a museum. I enjoyed the room of fluorescent rocks and we all enjoyed the well maintained displays. It felt a bit dated but full of interesting samples. My rock buff found some lovely things in the gift shop and they were well priced. Bit hidden on the campus.

Im usually not a rock or mineral person, but I was amazed at the collection and information about local and worldwide minerals. It was worth learning of the wide variety of minerals. Im sure kids will enjoy it if anything for the different types, shapes and colors of the minerals on display.I recommend it.

Tiny museum, but worth the visit. Obviously about geology and the local area. Small gift shop with some cool things for the kids. The giant gold nugget is amazing!

There was no parkingThere is one small parking lot for the museum and it was in a small back alley behind a building and every single space was taken up by students and the only other public parking was half a mile away

Though fairly small, the museum is packed with unique specimens and information native to Montana. Kids love the glow room and available pamphlets.

Google shows the Mineral Museum in the Natural Resources Building on the Montana Tech Campus which is totally wrong. The Museum is the fourth building to the left of the Marcus Daly Statue. How do you correct Google?

The museum has a fascinating collection, it would have been enough just to see it, but by far the best part of the experience was the curator (or the assistant we never learned which). His knowledge and ancedotes made the experience memorable. He gave us valuable information about rockhounding and gem hunting that will enhance our future expeditions. Well worth the time, fun and enlightening.
