This historic house opened to the public exactly 50 years ago. After JFKs assassination, his mother re-purchased the house where he was born. It was restored to its 1917 appearance, based upon Rose Kennedys memories. It was so nice to see the house, based upon the memories of someone who actually lived there. Enjoy the short movie in the visitor center and then take a free, ranger led tour of the house. I was the only one on the tour and the ranger was very knowledgeable.

Closed for renovation, this small but interesting site tells both the JFK origin story and the also does a good job of portraying life in Brookline in a different time. With all of the surrounding houses renovated surely dozens of times over the last Century, it’s interesting to walk into a house that looks the same on the outside, but is of an altogether different era on the inside.

Yes, as if it was meant to be in some awkward and strange way, I finally visited the birthplace of the United States 35th president last fall celebrating its 50th year anniversary of becoming part of the US National Park system. This despite earlier in the better part of the early 21st century of driving and walking by the former home of the president many a times... knowing it was there, but avoiding it. Surprisingly, I was informed that it is the third smallest site in the entirety of the US National Park system from the park rangers stationed at the site. The rangers present were very cordial, friendly, and had a wealth of information of the former president and the families historical past in and around the Brookline and greater Boston area of Eastern Mass. The visit was filled with awe inspiring moments to see what it was like to have been born and lived in the house over 100 years ago with a convenient self guided digital device with recorded sections assigned to a particular part/room of the house. No fee is required to take the tour, but a donation box is located at the reception desk where the devices can be borrowed from. Highly recommended for anyone to visit this historical site! Please donate and be considerate with regards to the new norms! Happy Birthday Mr. President!

Its a wonderful experience to be driving thru a normal Urban neighborhood by todays standards, just to find a normal house thats nothing out of ordinary on that block, until you see the signage posted on the property. That in itself, is the most refreshing feeling one can experience about this visit. The house was closed, being of season, but no regrets, as it was a beautiful sunny day with just a few neighbors walking by, made this stop a memorable one.

It is unfortunate that such an important resource of both local and national history has been entrusted to such an incompetent group of individuals. We were the first to arrive, at 2:15, for a guided tour at 2:30. We were provided tickets and instructed to wait. As we were waiting, more visitors arrived. They were instructed to continue directly into the house to explore it on their own. The staff then decided to cancel the 2:30 tour because there were too many people in the house already. They did not actually make this announcement. I had to ask. If I hadnt asked, when would they have said something? We continued into the house and were told we had to wait to go to the second floor because it was at capacity. Good idea, but guess what? It sounds like the house was at capacity at 2:15 or 2:30. How about stopping people at the door and telling them to come back in 10 or 15 minutes so you can run the tour we were promised and were expecting? I cant believe these clowns work for the National Park Service, which I have otherwise had the greatest respect for and confidence in. They are a disgrace to the NPS uniform.

A neighborhood gem. I had a pleasant tour here during a walk around Coolidge Corner. The furniture was set up according to Rose Kennedys memory following JFKs death - so its not exactly the same as when JFK was a child, but its very close. This site is closed over the winter, but if you call the National Park Service you can arrange for a private tour.

Fun less busy (when I went on a weekday) tourist stop. The rangers who give the tour really know their stuff. Cool to be really close to see the old furniture and nick nacks. Have to go on a tour to see the place, but I think worthwhile to see an important house in local and national history.

Br
Review №49

For most of the day, the home can only be accessed by guided tours which frequently leave from the basement. However, from 12-1 and from 4-5, you can take the audio tour which is narrated by Mrs. Kennedy, the mother of the president. Her tour gives a really interesting window into the mannerisms of a past era.

After living in Boston and visiting the town of Brookline for so many years, we finally made it to the JFK birth home. From Downtown Boston, its about a 15 minute ride on the Green Line (C) train. Get off at Coolidge Corner and from there its about a 5-7 minute walk to this site. The site is open Wednesday through Sunday. You can only view the home on your own at certain hours each day (check website), otherwise, they do offer a free 30 minute tour. I highly suggest you take the tour. It highlights the early years of the Kennedy family. Not all the furnishings actually belonged to the family but it does give you sense of what a home in Boston was like in the early 1900s.The entrance is located in the back of the house and on a quiet residential street in Brookline.
