Official parking lot is closer to the visitors center and then you take the buckeye trail which has various elevations and then you cross the street to the actual Blue Hen Falls Trail. Pedestrians are forbidden on the road. But definitely worth the journey!! Its beautiful!

This is a small waterfall. The parking lot is now closed but you can reach the Falls via the Buckeye Trail from the Boston Mills visitor center The more scenic Buttermilk falls can be found downstream. Round trip is just under 4miles

Nice, quasi challenging but relatively short trail. The fall is quaint but worth it..lots of rocks around and ripe for reasonably safe selfies! (Priorities, right?)

A lot of steep hills, but its a great trail as long as youre prepared for them. About 2 miles in theres a little waterfall and if youre careful you can get on the riverbed for some great photos

Short & beautiful hike to the falls. Its downhill from the parking lot to the falls and most uphill on the way back (trails also unpaved) so be aware of that; its very short though. The trail ends at an overlook but you can hike down to the stream below the falls or up on the rocks above it. Do a little exploring, this area is mostly shaded and cool by the water and our favorite spot in the park.

Awesome trail, kind of short, but challenging due to elevation change (200 ft).

This is a fairly long steep hike to a 6 ft high waterfall with hardly any water. Dont waste your time unless you just really enjoy hiking uphill over rocks and roots in the dirt.

Gorgeous waterfall. Easy trail. How do people give nature less than 5 stars?!?

Review №12

The trail to Blue Hen itself is very short- dirt/gravel path with a semi steep decline makes it better for people and dogs, not strollers. You can actually go past blue hen; if youre with someone who knows the area a tad better, continue on to discover the valley and Buttermilk falls! (Photo is buttermilk falls)

Due to covid the parking lots were closed down we parked at the railroad station down the road and walked up another path 3 miles round trip but so worth it .

Ni

This is a lovely and easy hike to get down to the blue hen falls. The trail was paved years ago and is a little uneven in places, so careful footwork, but some paving. Continue on this trail where it ends and it will lead you to the unofficial trail to buttermilk falls and you can get to see two waterfalls on your hike. Continuing where the trail ends is a bit of a rough hike though. At times you will end up in the stream or have multiple path options, but you will eventually get to the buttermilk falls too.

Currently, June 2020 the parking at the Blue Hen trail head is closed. We parked nearby at the RV lot and followed the Buckeye trail back to the Blue Hen trail. That stretch of Buckeye is more challenging than the Blue Hen trail. The waterfall is lovely, there were quite a few people there.

Blue hen falls are a short hike from the car. Just park in the overflow lot, there only a few spots trailhead. You can also access Buttermilk falls from here...you will have to cross the stream a few times.

Beautiful park. Short hike to the waterfall. Bring your water shoes and explore. Can be fairly busy at times. With only three parking spot at the actual park, but there is plenty of parking across the street in the overflow lot. For the more adventurous types... Further in is Buttermilk Falls. A great more challenging hike on an unmarked trail, but it is pretty easy to know where to go.(follow the creek)

Fun hike with a very woodsy backdrop. Ive hiked here 3 times because it offers a Ohio experience different from other hikes. there are 2 waterfalls, and several river crossings. it was very crowded at the falls which i did not experience on my last 2 visits (this visit was early July, the other 2 were August). and the water was pretty low, so not AS pretty this time but easier to cross the river, and still a great hike (and my moms favorite).

A must see if you are visiting NE Ohio. The Buckeye Trail links from Blue Hen Falls to Jaite, and is one of the most beautiful stretches of trail in Ohio when the snow has freshly fallen.

Me and my wife visited these falls and hated every frustrating moment of getting to it but just because the Buckeye Trail was that good. You will look at the path and worry for a moment but the adventurers within you wants to go through it. The end result certianly does not fail to impress. Well worth the travel. There is an easier route walking alongside the Boston Mills Road to the trailhead but honestly, who would wanna do that.

Beautiful area. Easy walk to and from the falls. Although there is a bit of climb up going back to the car, but nothing too strenuous. If you’re lucky people in front of the falls will be courteous enough to step aside so you can get an unobstructed shot. We weren’t that lucky this time. Two 20-somethings felt they didn’t need to move from directly in front of the falls.Calls for some creative viewing/shots.

I loved going hiking here. The falls and river where beautiful. However, the trail up keep was poor. We went less than a mile down the trail before we decided itd be best to go back due to a lot of mud(mother natures fault) and down trees. All the down trees and overgrown plants could be due to still being early spring, however still disappointing. I would like to go back to see if the trail is better maintained during the summer.

This is one of my favorite hidden gems in the CVNP. I call it a hidden gem despite the fact that sometimes the parking lot is crowded.. I say it because once you get a mile away from the parking lot it is so peaceful and tranquil. The falls themselves are absolutely beautiful...Hence why there are always many people around them taking photos, but as I said... Get away from the crowd and this park is WONDERFUL!!!!

This is an amazing gym of the national parks. Small and quaint oh, but it still gives you this amazing feeling of what it took for it to get carved out. its also along the buckeye trail which offers some of the most scenic hiking that you can find in the state. This is definitely a must see anyone stopping by in the area.

I visited the falls for the first time yesterday. It’s a short hike down to the falls from the parking area, not too strenuous so accessible to most. It was chilly, overcast and quiet. During the walk a gentle snow began to fall. Not too many people for a Sunday afternoon. Most people were respectful but one man watched as his children threw rocks to knock down icicles around the falls, pretty annoying. The low stream discharge didn’t make for great photography yesterday, but I could see promise for when the weather turns!

Blue hen falls trailhead offers a nice mix between a plesesnt walk in the woods or a challenging hike. It is up to each person how they would like to experience it. The reward at the end of the falls is certainly worth the trek. The abundant tree cover makes this trailhead a breeze to hike even on a day with strong sun. Get out there and explore. Who knows what you might find!

Alot of variation with how u get there u can park really close n just walk right down or u can start at the trailhead n walk to the falls. This last time actually found something amazing we didnt know about the first time. From blue hen falls how ever u manage to get there, there is another mildly challenging trail that will take u to another falls is Buttermilk Falls! Slippery muddy and wet but when and if u get there u will know its worth it good luck!
