Some pretty epic nature. Highly recommend for an adrenaline rush and great views. You can climb the third flatiron like you would take a walk in the park, if youre feeling confident in your abilities on an easy slab, or use some protection for a leisurely multi-pitch climb. Super fun rappelling off the back. Be sure to get there early, as the sun really starts to heat it up by mid-morning.

Sheer and superb! These huge rock slabs are even more impressive up close! And, its awesome to see people climbing right up the side of them!

Easily accessible gorgeous hike. Be prepared for a lot of elevation over short period as well as a heavily trafficked hike. View was absolutely worth it though.

Excellent hike. Rocky at times. Worth the effort to reach the Royal Arch

This is a great hike to start with when visiting Boulder! The views are fantastic and the hiking can be tough! This is a pretty popular trail and there are tons of offshoots you can take to go explore further.

The hike to get to the arch is a decent hike, with a bit of rock terrain, but the views at the top are definitely worth it.

For mine and my sons first hike it was beautiful. The weather was beautiful and the people were kind and saying enjoy your hike. There are small rocks where you can stop and rest your feet as well. We will surely be back

This place is amazing. The higher you go the more rewarding the experience will be. Don’t be afraid to higher than the trail leads, but safely of course. This is a must experience in Boulder.

A great climb if you know the routes, have the right gear, and have some climbing experience. One of the more beautiful routes in Chautauqua

Gourgous and well worth the hike soo bring a snack and hydration DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE the approach just to make it to your climbing route just to be gassed.... enjoy and make memories

Great, simple hike, especially for beginners. Such an awesome way to see the whole city. Can be very busy on holidays and weekends so plan accordingly. Parking can be a struggle on busy days. Overall a great experience and I recommend for newcomers and locals alike!

Climbed up an unbolted route on the face. Its a very popular route with tons of parties usually on it so go as early as you can if you dont want to be waiting at all. There are anchors off the back to rappel off of but their placement is a tad wonky. Overall a great and easy slab climb with awesome views of the other flatirons and the city of Boulder.

Chautauqua is a must hike when visiting Boulder, I’ve been 3 times and have hiked 3 different trails and all have been very rewarding, Bluebells and the “numbered” trails are moderate approachable trails, Royal Arch is a challenge with a lot of fast elevation gain in the style of a “stairstepper”. But completely worth the challenge for the views and beautiful rock formation. If attempting Royal Arch start early, like right at the break of dawn to ensure yourself some solitude, it is a very popular busy set of trails so earlier is better to beat the crowds (it’s still crowded even on weekdays during normal working hours). Hiking poles would make for an easier hike, I did Royal Arch without them tho. Expect to scramble just a tiny bit in a couple places right after Sentinel Pass, you have to use your hands to support yourself to get down a couple boulders, nothing crazy. Can’t stress enough the beauty of the expansive view on top of Royal Arch. Go for it and enjoy the memory that you will make, and the leg workout! (Remember uphill hikers have the right of way, so yield to them once you turn around on your way down).

Really great climb for beginners, though route finding can be a bit hard if you are new and want to stay on the line between eye bolts. We ended up running it late and had to rappel at dusk; make sure you know which way the second stage rappel to the ground is (to your left if your facing the anchor), going the other way is only doable with a double rope.

I look up to the Third as my awe-inspiring sandstone friend. Its the best one to scramble and view from around the city. Such a prominent rock feature captures my attention and fills me with joy no matter where I am in Boulder!

Perhaps the best lower 5s climb in the solar system. Enjoy challenge, flora, fauna, and views to die for, but dont die, there are plenty of safe ways to surmount this flatiron. Arrive early on the weekdays to avoid the Macys Day Parade phenomenon up the crag.

Hiking at Chataqua is a real treat. The views are spectacular, and the trail itself is challenging, but not long enough that I have to commit a full day to hiking. If you like to boulder, the Satellites are right along the path to the third flatiron. The only reason this doesnt get the full 5 stars is because of the crowd. Plan to get there EARLY on a weekend, or else you wont find parking.

Best introduction to multi-pitch trad around (the remaining Flatirons being possible challengers, of course). A must for Boulder alpine enthusiasts, not-necessarily-experts. Classic.

Beautiful and rugged hiking trails. More than just a walk in the park.

St
Review №44

Its awesome to stand at the base of the 3rd Flatiron and look up. The slope is low enough that one is tempted to just start walking up. Of course that would be a mistake, as you are most likely to get stuck halfway up and have to call for a rescue.
