We took our two young kids (6 & 4) for a quick hike. We did the rangeview trail to ute trail. It was super easy and even with stopping way too much it was only about 45 minutes. We will definitely be back to explore some of the other trails and go a little farther.

Love coming here and brining our dog. The view up to the trail is scenic and a fun drive. The views are spectacular. The photos I have below don’t do this location justice. Once you get on the trail you see that you’re surrounded by mountains. The air is so clean. The trail is easy, but could be a little challenging for little children. There are drop offs that wouldn’t be fun to slide down.

Ridge and Ute trail to Realization Point is a short 1.5 mile hike with great views and some uos and downs to 7000 feet. Ute is wheelchair accessible for a wheelchair athlete with some 8% grade.Tenderfoot to Chapman road is longer and a long down and then up but nice views.

I use this trail for Spartan Race training. Its got a great blend of technical running, and some less aggressive hills so you can open up a little as well. The views are beautiful! It is pretty icy, and snow packed in the winter, but the lower parts of this trail coming up from Chautauqua park melt faster than the top, so you can have some dry areas to hit as well. Round trip from.the bottom is about 1,400 feet of ascent, and about 5 miles. You can add on some other sections to make it a longer run, which I do quite often. If you are a good mountian runner, its about an hour or less round trip from Chautauqua park. If your are hiking maybe 2 hours.

Beautiful hike! Lots of trees and views of the mountains. There are a couple of picnic tables at the trailhead. No restrooms, but a minute down the road theres one at another trailhead. This is designated easy, but my 75 yr old mom was huffing and puffing with the inclines. She doesnt hike with us much. I will definitely come back!

One of our favourite local Boulder hikes. Just minutes past Chautauqua and you are a world away.Love doing the Range View, then Boy scout trails, looping past Sunrise Amphitheater and heading back down via Ute.Watch out for Aberts squirrels, they are often searching for mushrooms on the ground.

The view on the drive up and the view at the Realization point is breathtaking, you can see for what feels like hundreds of miles. I recently read that the dam located near Realization Point is being expanded 100 feet, and this will destroy 250,000 trees over 25,000 acres. The location is beautiful as it is, and this is saddening to hear. I hope it was incorrect. It wont be the same.

Great start off point for so many different trails. easier ones if you go north from here towards the Ampitheatre, and be careful of some slippery and somewhat dangerous spots with sliding dry dirt that doesnt seem like much til youre on it n finding out the hard way, naturally. ha. but seriously some spots can be quite dangerous near the ladder south of Realization point. enjoy. be safe!

The Summit Rd. closes every year from Nov. 1 to April 30 to vehicles, but you can still walk to the Summit. When it’s open Summit Rd is a quick drive to Sunrise Amphiteater. Parking at Realization Point you can check out the newly opened Chapman Drive trail. At Flagstaff Summit you can get to trails like Boy Scout and Ute. They provide scenery of the city and views of Longs Peak and Mt. Meeker. You can get to the Green Mountain Lodge just across the road from Realization Point. From the lodge you can pick up on the Ranger Trail (my favorite) which summits Green Mountain. No bathrooms, but there are two picnic tables.
