As others have pointed out, less of a hike (not much of a challenge unless it involves the summer heat) and more so like a park path. Still, the vistas of Lake Mead and surrounding desert are spectacular and there are ample park benches to sit down and admire the views. Can get crowded even on a weekday.

*Danger Warning -Very nice and easy trail but it has warnings about heat kills. It is dangerous to hike this trail in hot temperatures because of lack of shade and not much breeze. It recommends not hiking this trail during the hot months from June to Sept. I hiked the whole trail on 07/05/20, 106°, through the five tunnels and back, it was very difficult because of the heat. I recommend following the danger warnings and not hike this trail during extreme heat. It challenged me and another couple that I helped rescue by driving my pickup on the trail to pick them up, hopefully they recovered and are fine now. Stay safe and always be prepared before hiking, your life depends on it.

Go for the amazing view of Lake Mead and tunnels! What a cool way to get outdoors and have a picturesque view of Lake Mead. The trail even has small little fun facts along the side and benches. I recommend starting at the Hoover Dam Lodge. Their parking lot connects to the trail and afterwards you can cool down or get a bite to eat at the hotel.

Easy trail. Congested at entrance and parking may be difficult to find—unless, you get there before the crowds. If you go in the summer, BE PREPARED AND HYDRATE!! Temperatures hit the triple digits. As going through the caves, you will hear and see bats. I went during COVID 19 pandemic, so access to Hoover Dam was closed and there was an officer truck there, to prevent anyone from crossing into the dam area. Wonderful views of Lake Mead and along the path, there are benches to sit and enjoy the view.

Great hike when you’re able to get down to the Dam. Very hot during the summer so bring plenty of water, snacks, and start this trail early in the day to avoid the heat.

Really nice area to get around and go for a little hike. The trails is pretty flat but with a slight grade. Seen toddlers on it, so any age should be fine. Take water! as the only parts that are shaded are in the tunnels. You still have a good hike to get to the first tunnel.

Easy hike minus the heat so get up early and do this early. Several old train tunnels, and views of lake mead. Hoover dam closed d/t covid 19, unable to walk all the way to the dam. As with any desert hike bring water.

Took the kids on a family bike ride. This trail is awesome and perfect for a kids bike ride. Our 9 year old did great. Fun hike to see the dam at the end. We will be back for sure. We went in winter and it got a little cold for some of us. But I could see it being miserable in the summer. Bring water and watch for big Horn sheep, we saw several and it was awesome.

Found this path on the app Traillink . It was exactly what we were looking for! A family friendly bike ride, not too many people, and gorgeous scenery! Really hot at 10am start but the tunnels were great shade to stop and hydrate. It is supposed to be 3.7 miles all the way to Hoover Dam but is shortened to 2.1 miles (one way) as the Dam is closed due to Covid. Take note that its packed gravel, loose gravel and rocks. Not so good for my road bike but I managed with some concentrated riding. My husbands tire popped with 1/2 mile left and he has a trail bike. Kids bikes were fine.

Great place for a hike and to take the dogs. Great views of the lake. We couldnt go as far since the park had tunnel 3 closed for what seemed to be maintenance. We will be back before it gets too hot. It will take a few hours to complete the full trial. So be prepared and bring fluids.

Really fun and easy hike, really more of a walk! This would be a great first hike for kids and dogs, very gradual ascent, beautiful views, and a million flowers! There were what felt like thousands of caterpillars all around. We also saw lots of bats at sunset. Heads up though because there is a closure at tunnel 3.Dont forget your water, there are no services on this trail. And if you are coming at sunset bring flashlights (ideally headlamps) because there is no lighting. Pack it in and pack it out :) Have fun!

Fabulous, and easy trail. Great views of the lake. It is hard packed so there were many bikes on it as well. We parked at the visitor center, hiked to the Hoover dam, wandered a bit there, and hiked back. That totaled right at 9 miles. The five tunnels were really fun for the kids to see. According to the signs, the hike is closed June through September, which seems reasonable because there is no shade.

Nice, short hike with slight grades (old railroad). Tunnels were fun, but not long. No need for a flashlight. The part of the trail that goes to the Dam was closed at the time of hiking it (May 15, 2020). Bikes are allowed, and fun to use.

Take a hike through history. Park at the trail head, on the road, or at the visitor center next door and walk the original railroad trail, through many mountain tunnels, past historic Hoover Dam landmarks, and right down to the Hoover Dam itself. This trail is very popular so come early. Expect 4 hours full out and back hike on easy trails if want to see the dam. Many benches to rest at. Fantastic views. Water and a bathroom at a point a little more than half way. And water at the Dam, and concessions too. This is an easy trail which can be walked as far as you are comfortable. Lots of little rocks under your feet in places, but very manicured dirt trails that dont require special shoes. Bring a bottle of water that can be refilled along the way.

This trail is awesome. The tunnels and overlooks of Lake Mead are worth the walk. Dont forget to bring lots of water. Besides the tunnels there isnt really any shade, so an umbrella may make the trail a little more comfortable for some. There are benches to rest but not a single one of them has a shade structure. We walked the trail from the trailhead parking lot all the way to Hoover Dam and it was totally worth the trip for the unique experience. It took us about 3 hours. At the end of the tunnel trail and at the start of the Hoover dam trail there is a water fountain, a picnic table a shade pavilion, and bathrooms. I highly recommend it, but beware of the weather conditions and take lots of water. Also note that Dogs arent allowed on the Hoover Dam portion.

This trail is beautiful and easily accessible by foot as well as a bike. It takes about an hour to walk the whole trail till you reach private property sign. There are five tunnels to pass on this trail and beautiful views of lake mead marina on the side. We heard there is some wildlife on this trail like bats and bighorn sheep but we didn’t see any. There is no litter here but it seems like some people do not clean up after their dogs which is a shame. The best time to walk this trail is either fall spring time when the heat is not so brutal. Overall a perfect place to see lake mead especially if it is your first time here

The main trail is a great trail to take if your looking to get out with the family for a couple of hours and enjoy a little bit of Nevada history no real level of difficulty at all. People are pushing kids in strollers others are riding bikes or jogging. Cool tunnels to walk through but if you have any respiratory issues I would suggest not spending to much time inside the tunnels themselves because as people are walking through dust is being kicked up with no place to really go. All in all a good outing just keep in mind that the temperatures in the area can soar to well above 110° in the summer months.

The railroad began under construction in 1931 being worked on 24 hours a day. It was built to quickly haul massive pieces that were needed to construct the Hoover Dam. Four gas locomotives and 9 steam locomotives were used to operate this system. At that time 71 people were in full operation of the tunnels. 6 companies were used to build this system. There are 5 tunnels that are built exactly the same in dimensions. 300 feet in length and 25 feet in diameter. 90 lbs rail construction comprising of Oregon fir ties along with standard gauge built these enormous rails. When the dam was completed in 1935 there was no need for the tunnels anymore. The government would occasionally use the tunnels, but eventually decided to dismantle the line in 1962.In the 1984 the area was added to the National Register of Historic Places, and a trail for a walking tour was announced. This is the only part of the trail that is intact or not underwater. In 1990 tunnel 4 was burned due to arson, tunnel 5 was met with that same demise several years previous in 1978- however was rebuilt and shot over with shotcrete in the summer of 2001.This distance roundtrip is 7.5 miles of very easy grade. This hike is hot in the summer, be mindful of your animals as it is distressing to them when the ground is very hot. Some of the tunnels have bats so if you have issues with white noise bring ear plugs as it will help to lessen the sensitivity you are experiencing.Would thoroughly recommend - pricing is free. Bring lots of water. There are many look out areas with historical interest points and benches with amazing views along the way.Location is Lake Mead/ Lake Mead visitor center parking lot - no fee

A good, flat hike, where you can hear bats and go through railroad tunnels all the way to Hoover dam... All 5 tunnels may be easily passable if you forget to read the signs. What an awesome experience!Beautiful place for a leisurely walk.It is about 2.25 miles from the parking area to the 5th tunnel. The tunnels vary in length. They are about 25 feet wide and about 30 feet high! There is a restroom just past the 5th tunnel. The trail is very easy and flat. You can walk, bike, push a stroller or even a wheelchair as the trail is kept nice. The views of Lake Mead are great! You can keep going past the 5th tunnel and onto Hoover Dam if you choose to.Its another couple miles to the Dam and the trail is a little more varied and has more grade although it is not that difficult. There are plenty of benches along the trail if you want to rest or just enjoy the scenery. The signs say they close the gates at dusk but Im not sure if they stick to that as the hours on Google maps say 6am to 8pm 7 days a week.

We stopped here after Hoover Dam. We were unable to find parking at the trailhead, but the near by visitor center had plenty. Only problem with parking at the visitor center is that the end of your long walk is up hill and a bit further. The trail weaves around for maybe over a mile before the first tunnel. The 5 tunnels are at least maybe another mile and half. On the way in, we stopped to take picture after picture of the tunnels, Lake Mead and Muddy and Black Mountains-beautiful! The return trip took about 45 minutes at a steady clip. We could take our dog with us!
