Pedestrian-friendly bridge with a wide walking path and great views. Bicyclists share the same path, but theres plenty of room for all. The eastern end is easily accessible from Cambridge Street and the western end is in the heart of the MIT campus. Enjoy!

Fantastic place to go for long walks!Has a fantastic view of Boston skyline and beautifully carved out bike path for enthusiasts. The bridge also has the T running in between the roads - so if you capture the right moment and angle you get the water, the T, and the skyline in one view (One of my friends was able to do that)

Must see views, great walk. Take the red-line between Kendall Square and Charles MGH if its too cold, but there’s trails and parks and it’s a very comfortable walk across and back on a wide, solid barrier from traffic on each side. There’s also separate bike lanes in the road.

Renovation a few years ago at a cost of $365 million.** A bit of history - The construction of the bridge began in 1900 and was completed in 1906. Originally dedicated as the Cambridge bridge, it was later rename for a poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in 1927..

Much better with completion of construction, but still leaves a lot to be desired: the Boston side/southern side/way more scenic side has a sidewalk that is FAR narrower than the other side and neither sides bike lane is really suitable for passing a fellow cyclist without weaving into the motor vehicle lane.

This is a perfectly serviceable bridge, but it just doesnt hold up against those of New York. Far too packed with tourists and dilettante. For a truly awe-inspiring bridge experience, go to the no-name bridge three intersections down from the Citgo sign thats designated for vehicular traffic only. Ask for Carl.

Beautiful view of the city from this bridge. Think of it as the Brooklyn Bridge of Boston, not just because of the view. But because it is crowded too and kinda small. Theres people walking, theres people taking pictures, theres people running and theres people riding bikes so be careful. Location is great since this is a very clean and safe area (unless theres construction going on) but Charles River is something you dont wanna miss and at the end of the bridge theres a park which is also great for workouts or just chill out.

Where to start? Boston just wouldnt be the same without this bridge. I remember my first time crossing it like it was yesterday - a crisp, sunny autumn day, birds swooping overhead, and the dull drone of boats below. The experience truly is one for the record books, and thanks to who ever put this bridge over the Charles.

Nonstop construction for I dont even know how long. Definitely longer than Ive been working in the area and they dont look remotely close to being done. Would be ok if it just affected cars traffic, but it seems to impact the Red Line as well with delays all the time.
