Not too many people know this, but everyone is allowed to visit Hyland Hills for free in the summer to practice hiking. This has helped me immensely to get in shape for hiking trips to the mountains. It does get a little busy, but never that bad. There is also a freely accessible disc golf course built into the hills as well. It did not disturb my hiking practice. I believe their dining area is also open for lunch in the summer.

I have photographed a couple of weddings here and can honestly say its fantastic. It makes for a great wedding location. I highly recommend it for the views, the natural light coming from the large windows, and the amount of physical space you get.

Is small, but I love that this place is 10 from home, has a nice park and is so nicely set up with ropes so my kids can go go go without waiting in lift lines, esp during Covid when lifts are limited to one per household.

Great place for learning skiing and snowboarding. It is actually cheaper to go with group classes (prebooked) than with individual lift tickets as you get to ski for a whole day with 1.5h classes and the cost isaround $110 for series of 3...

If you’re a beginner I assume that it will be great for you, but as an experienced skier it feels way too small with only a few runs.

We are a family of 6 from Iowa. My husband and I are novice skiers at best and we brought our four children(12, 10, 7, 5) here to learn to ski. Our oldest son has special needs and has R sided hemiparesis making skiing especially difficult. We loved our two day experience at Hyland Hills. Every employee was kind, friendly, and professional. The process of renting equipment is extremely streamlined and efficient. The kids absolutely loved the lessons. Fabulous instructors; Jeff, Daniel, Stella, Kevin, and Paul. We had so much fun. Thank you!!! We would highly recommend this place for young families.

The place has a nice family atmosphere but the price was maybe a little TOO high. The slopes werent really that bad, the snow was kind of iced up on the more higher places and near the bottom, but the middle parts were fine. The place was a little too crowded, like when skiing you need to be REALLY careful, so basically you cant enjoy it that much unless you come at an unpopular time and day. Overall my experience was pretty good, and I might come here again.

We’re visiting Minneapolis and have never been skiing before. The experience of being a first time skier wasn’t exactly what I hoped it would be, but the customer service was.Shout out to Jim - thank you for the exceptional customer experience. And the great people in guest services who refunded our lift pass tickets - who even does that these days? You guys are awesome! Definitely coming back!

Great place to get some time on some slopes in town! Clean. Modern. Good ski lessons. However...However, mostly very rude staff. My group had several encounters when we were astonished at how uncalled for rude they were. However, Jeff in the boot rental area was exceptionally kind, as well as one dark and curly hair gal. It was a striking contrast to the rest of the staff experiences we had.

Nice chalet and nice runs for an in city ski hill. But... the staff running the lifts seemed lazy; ice and slopes in the loading and unloading area were a pain all day and the staff seemed to be doing nothing about it. At buck hill they are constantly working in the lift areas. To me it seems like a management and expectation issue.

Review №23

A fun place to ski but it is lacking in a few aspects. They need staff to help organize patrons for getting onto the lifts, you have 5 different lines to get on the lift depending on which side you came from. 2 single lines 2 double lines and a lessons line. People enter the lines and just kind of go when they think its their turn. Be aggressive and ask to ride up with strangers: many go up 2 at a time when the lift can support 3 or 4 people. The hills are pretty small, going without turning or stopping I was done in what felt like a few seconds. Even the black diamond is just a steep small hill, nothing too crazy. The snow was well maintained and the present staff were kind and helpful. Id recommend coming here for a good close small hill. They also offer shuttles to the ski hills from the parking lot.The picture is from the black diamond hill on the southern side. A lovely view of the city and Minneapolis in the distance.

This place is a gem! A gem in terms of accessibility, amenities, snow making equipment, people working there. Its a family oriented place. My daughter learned to ski here. We go there often during winter, especially after a nice snow storm passed through the Twin Cities. The ski school there is one of the finest. The terrain is PERFECT for learning how to ski and building on skills later. And its located in one of the most beautiful natural surroundings in the cities. We love Hyland. A perfect example of what a well funded public park system can create and maintain. We love the Twin Cities (Minnesota). A place we call home now and a perfect example of a culture that cares about the outdoors.

Good beginner/simple ski hills. Chalet is really nice. Dedicated hills for snowboarding with rails and jumps (skiers welcome) outfitted with fast tow ropes. North hills are usually sloppy, undulating, and icy. Chairlifts get busy/slow as staff is lazy to enforce 3 person rules. Also a disc golf course in the summer, which they charge a fee for some ludicrous reason (and they staff the chalet, a stupid waste of city money).

Its Friday evening: Want to park somewhat near the entrance? No, thatll be $12. What?! I pay $10 to park near Target Field. Instead, now you have to wait in line to take a small and crowded shuttle 5 minutes down the road. The large $12 parking lot is about 30% filled with cars. The lift workers dont pay attention and have no idea what theyre doing. The lines were incredibly disorganized and, as a result, incredibly slow. Is there really any other city ski hill that charges for parking/forces you to take a shuttle? Hadnt been there in almost 15 years. The prices and unnecessary expenses makes this place seem like a local tourist trap. Never going back. Make the drive to Afton and dont waste your money here.

Very frustrating! Kids wanted to play Frisbee golf so we went over there today for the first time. Got there, and the admissions booth was empty, the store was closed, and the cafeteria was blocked off for a private event. That shouldnt affect the Frisbee golf, but we had no idea where to go or who to ask. Tried to call, and got an answering machine. Finally went home. Lousy first impression; wont be going back.

Lessons through the Snowsports Academy are a great way to introduce little ones to the slopes. Reasonably priced 4-session packages include lift tickets for group lessons. Standalone lift tickets are a little steep considering the Hyland Hills terrain is anything but steep.

Good little ski hill for cheap. My only complaint is the rude staff. It was our groups first time to Hyland and the hills close at 9. However, the lifts were still running at 9:10. We get inside and are taking our gear off and a young lady staff member comes up to us and lectures us about how 15 minutes is enough time to get out of there. Its not like we were sitting around, we were putting our gear away. then she said a very rude comment under her breath. Other than that, I enjoyed myself. But maybe the staff should be more understanding - plenty f businesses dont b**** out their customers after closing; it could have at least been a polite request.

Review №48

This was by far the worst ski resort experience ever. Overcrowded, with too many school groups - all acting like they own the place. No place for paying families to sit in the chalet, as the schools have every space occupied and reserved. We were told by school staff that we were not allowed on the bunny hill as it was reserved for schools only. Long lift lines and helicopter parents who wont move their fallen kids off of the tow rope line to make way for others. Complained to staff and they didnt care as they already had our money.

I generally dont post but after my last experience with the ski school I feel I need to. I love Hyland for the terrain park, easy access and the food is pretty good. I frequently have issues with the instructional staff customer service. My last visit I was told the magic carpet was closed only to lessons so my 4 year old would have to use the tow rope. They had blown snow for a terrain park and a large number of runs but ignored the none lesson magic carpet. No refunds offered. This resulted in me and two other parents having to carry the kids up the hill, putting them on a rope tow when we came for the carpet or calling it a loss by going home.

I called in to sign up for ski lessons and they asked for my postal address. I declined to give it since it was absolutely unnecessary (over-the-phone credit cards only require a zip code for verification but companies pretend that they require your full address in order to get you on their mailing list). The reservationist assured me that they would keep my address on file to identify me but would never sign me up for any mail. The next thing I know, I am receiving junk mail from their parent company, Three Rivers Parks. It took 15 minutes of waiting on hold and being transferred and verifying which types of mailers I am receiving (What does it matter? No mail means no mail.) to get on the Do Not Mail list.
