People were respectful and social distancing was practiced. I didnt know there was an actual parking lot for those who want to park and walk, I ended up walking from my hotel thinking there wasnt. Idk when the road is open for car travel up the butte, but needed the exercise. Rn the park requires masks, but observed many not adhering to this mandate. I can, Fortunately, relate because after walking a mile my mask was suffocating. No complaints here

Great place in town place for a quick run, walk or bike ride. Paved or gravel trail options. View from the top is worth the 500 ft elevation gain.

Park was smaller than expected. The kids enjoyed it thoroughly because other neighborhood kids were there. 3-stars is given for two reasons:1. the smaller-than-expected playground2. Some of the neighborhood women were threatening my 8 and 10 year old boys with juvie time, you know, prison for kids for climbing on the nearby hillside. Not a fan of ridiculousness and certainly not threats from undereducated bullies that target children. Wouldve been a totally different experience if she had come with reasonable concerns to me or their mom, but she didnt have the courtesy, the courage, or the decency to do that.

I love this hike! A great workout even if you have not worked out in a while! The view is so rewarding and worth it. You can see all the mountains and can read about them once you reach the top. The top does have restrooms and water fountains. I take my kids up in a stroller so kid friendly, just be careful because cars do drive up while your hiking up. After the walk I take my kids down to play at the park so they can run off energy too.

Short (1+ mile) hike uphill to a beautiful 360° view of Bend and Central Oregon. Great for sunsets and, when smoke or clouds doesnt obscure the view, the mountain identifier at the top helps ID the local peaks.

Best Fireworks Show in Oregon!!! You dont watch FROM the park, but from anywhere else in Bend (they light them off from the top of the Butte). Recommend the football field off of 15th St. They start the show off by pretending to set the whole Butte on fire (I was told this was because they actually HAD set it on fire years ago). The fireworks can be seen almost everywhere in Bend, but the height of the fireworks is especially spectacular when viewed from the football field (or other sports fields near the base of the Butte). Just be aware that theres limited parking at local parks, so arrive early!

The view was amazing and could see the few surrounding towns and generally so peaceful once you get to the top which you could literally walk around it and see the entire 360 of it all. There are dirt paths to walk, as well as a concrete path that you can drive your vehicle up to. I did one of the walking paths. Will definitely do it again the next chance I get. It is a dead volcano, and so I even a collected a few tiny lava rocks as souvenirs.

Best view of Bend. This is a great workout if you walk it. When you get to the top, you get your well deserved reward in the form of amazing views. The mountains and other landscape features are pointed out from the pillar in the center. There are nice parks and parking is free.Bend is a really friendly, up and coming place (has been for some time) but still feels like a close community. Most people we passed say hi and theres water fountains at the base and top of the trail. Its nice that it was closed to car traffic when we visited because people can walk and bike easily now. It was busy too, which is nice to see.Bathroom is available at the top. Not sure the condition though as we didnt go in.Bend has dry, clear air so you will usually get to see the views quite far into the distance most days. The wind will kick up at night with the temp dropping at night (this is true for most places in central/eastern OR with higher elevations and high desert). Just bring along a jacket if going in the evening, but you likely warm up on the climb. The Juniper and sagebrush smell wonderful. If you are ever lucky enough to be there when it rains it is even better.

Best place to view the entire city of Bend. You are able to get an entire 360 view of bend. Depending on the time of year you are able to drive up to the top which would be great for people that are handicapped. Otherwise year-round youre able to hike to the top there are multiple trails one being dirt the other being the road. So depending on your abilities it can be a light on-road or off road hike but the elevation gain provides full Vantage Point Bend.

So awesome, that I want to write fake reviews to prevent people from slowly finding out about the one town in the middle of Oregon that has a a extinct volcano in the middle of it. One that provides quite a view of its big brothers and sisters such as Mt. Bachelor, Hood, Jefferson, Washington and a few more I cant remember. Every night parking is full on top, as people watch the sun slowly dissapear. It truly beleive that experiencing a Pilot Butte sunset is the peak of Central Oregons Beauty.p.s. sunrise

Great park. Has a playground and a picnic shelter (and they are close to each other ) as well as a large field. Has a small 1/4 mile paved trail around all of that, plus bathrooms (not port-a-potties but a real bathroom). For hikers, this park is at the base of the butte, bit there are two trails (one paved and one dirt) that wind up to the top as well as a dirt trail around the base.If youre looking for an easy walk this is also the start of Larkspur Trail (an urban trail that winds 3 miles through Bend neighborhoods between Pilot Butte and Larkspur Park).Lots of options!! We enjoy this park a lot.

How many places can claim to have a 500 foot tall butte in the city limits? Obviously very few, which makes this worth visiting. While its open to cars in the summer, we hiked up in the winter where it was worth the effort to see the amazing views. Since it stands alone, there is nothing to obstruct the views. There are two ways to the top: one via the paved road and the other is a hiking trail. I liked the trail better since the slope was less steep. Expect a minimum of one hour, more if you are not a strong hiker.

Fantastically kept trails and road for hiking, biking, or driving needs.Windy as all hell up top bring a jacket!! Even in July!Make sure your car has plenty of coolant and that your motor oil condition is in fine running order before going up this hill. For it is a slow 5 MPH speed limit and a very steep incline. Which means high RPMs at a low, maintained speed. That means very little airflow to cool your engine and it could easily overheat and seize up.Also, make sure you have good brakes for when you go back down! There is parking up top. Erected signs and plaques describing the history and geography of the Pilot Butte State Park.
