The menu and bar have great options! The cabins and rooms are all clean and spacious. The updated Main Lodge is the perfect place to stay if you want the nicest hotel Bemidji has to offer! Lots of activities in the summer, and a great pool house during the winter. The staff if friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful.

Our second stay, and definitely better the second time around! Stayed in a one bedroom cabin with private screened in porch, picnic table, grill, fire place, lake access, a hammock right outside, about as far from the main lodge as we could get.Peaceful, quiet, yet close enough to enjoy all the amenities offered - even during the apocalypse.For sure looking forward to our next visit!

Ruttgers Birchmont Lodge on Lake Bemidji is an amazing place to stay as well as eat and drink! Their menu is extensive and they keep things local. The main lodge is fully remodeled and stunning. There is a beautiful view of the lake from the hotel rooms, cabins, restaurant, and bar. There is also a rooftop bar! Service is top notch, and they have friendly golden retrievers on site. It is the perfect place to bring the family, have a date night, or get a hand crafted cocktail. Highly recommend!!!

Meh, the facade they put up recently looks nice, but the rooms still transmit nearly all of the sound from above and to the side. My wife was woken up numerous times due to our upper party people and side neighbors. There was a lot of construction as well, with ladders leaning up against buildings with no one around. There were also a lot of corners cut in the facade construction as shown in pictures. The exit/entrance door card reader also didnt work the whole time we were there so we had to walk around the half the building to get back inside. We notified the front desk, but it wasnt fixed before we left. Views on the lake are nice as always. And its great for a day trip, just try to get a cabin on your own. Oh yeah, the beds were miss matched in softness, mostly just different, but could be nice if two bed types are preferred. The pillows were not great. Stay was July 13th 2020.

A great weekend getaway for the most part, particularly being right on the lake (beautiful view and fantastic star gazing) and close to Lake Itasca. Restaurant on site was good. Our cabin, however, was full of cobwebs, spider webs with dozens of bug carcasses, and a door had been left open prior to our arrival so the cabin was full of flies and mosquitoes. Had to buy our own fly swatter as there was none in the unit, which would have been helpful. Light in kitchen could also have used a good cleaning out of bug carcasses. The tub looked like it hadnt been cleaned (sand in bottom). Couch in living room smelled funky. Thankfully the beds were clean. The cabin could really use a deep clean and refresh.

Service was great! The view from our room was absolutely beautiful overlooking the water. Our room was really unexpectedly big. Definitely worth staying here!

What a great place to dock your boat and eat with friends! When we were there, the service was a little slow , but I cant fault them too much, they were extremely busy. You have a beautiful view to look at while you wait. The server, and the food, were excellent. Highly recommend!

Chaniel was amazing! So nice, fast service, great food, beautiful environment! The owner Karrie stopped by just to make sure everything was up to our standards and went above and beyond! AMAZING.

All of the food was excellent. The fries were crispy, the burgers and fish were juicy. We were seated outside by the water and that was lovely. We would certainly go back.

For the price we paid I thought the cabin would be much nicer.

I really wanted to love my stay here, but I was severely disappointed. The room had a huge cobweb and dead bugs in the light fixtures. The water stunk. I dont feel clean after showering, I feel like the water was just gross. Plus, there was no hot water last night and this morning. We stayed in a room with a jetted tub (the reason I was willing to pay the amount I did) and couldnt use the tub because the water was barely lukewarm! The service from the employees was great but not enough to make me want to go back.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Beds were comfortable and the room was nicely clean. Bedding was thin and worn. An extra blanket in the room wouldve been nice. The main lodge needs better soundproofing. We could hear other guests and tuhhere was a wedding Sat night and we were right above the dj. The restaurant was very good. I would stay here again but I might try one of the cottages next time.

We stayed one night but had fun, went out on the lake on a paddle boat. will go back

I love this place. One of the few remaining original resorts left around Bemidji. It has been rejuvenated and a lot of money was spent on the Cove and the main lobby/dining room. The rooms have received an upgrade also. The beach area is well tended. Great happy hour at the Cove. If you stay during school holidays be prepared for stampedes of noisy children. I love the fact that actress Jane Russell was born and raised next door on the lake. A true Bemidji girl.

Good services food was just ok. Chicken was over cooked and dry not much pasta sauce over there chicken dry. Rest of food was good. B- BUT WOULD GO AGAIN.

Stopped to buy a wine glass for replacement and they were out. However, we stayed for an anniversary (54) dinner on the patio. Delicious meals! Husband had walleye fish n chips. I had walleye tacos. Waitress attentive, service quick, great experience in spite of light rain!

A picturesque lodge right on the lake. They are remodeling cabins as they get the chance. The only reason I give it 4 stars is that they dont have an overnight receptionist. Other than that the indoor pool, hot tub, and sauna are very nice and the view is lovely as well.

Awesome cabin we are staying. Staying after labor day so continental breakfast in lobby. Friendly staff, clean cabin, very nice pool and hot tub. Great wildlife right outside of screened in porch!! Definitely would come back. 3 more days left of our trip.

Enjoyed a quiet anniversary dinner there tonight! Had most of the restaraunt to ourselves, great staff interaction and hands down, the best Alfredo I have had in Bemidji!

The property itself is beautiful. We had rented a cabin, it had a musty smell which did not help my allergies. I was under the impression that my card wouldnt be charged til check in and was charged right away. If I was to go here again I would stay in a room where it is more updated.

4th time visit. Was always happy before this trip. New transition of ownership Im sure what happened. Cabin was not clean and all the doors wouldnt close because of tilt of structure. Continental breakfast was a bag of yogurt, fruit, blueberry bar and muffin. I would have thought for the money they might have COOKED a minimal breakfast and plated it the same for everyone. Was not impressed with their covid plat form.

This is a VERY nice place. We stayed one night while passing through. Stayed in a cabin next to the lake. The lodge has several cabins and rooms in the lodge. The cabins are not new but have been very well maintained. The cabin had a bedroom, livingroom with fireplace, bathroom, and a good sized screened in front porch. This would be a great vacation place or even a weekend. Strongly recommend. The desk clerk we had was terrific too.

The food was delicious. We had the fried pickles eggroll, which was a fun, tasty surprise. The walleye was excellent. My fish taco had very little fish in it, but it was good. I added extra sauce. Very good onion rings.Our only complaint was that when the servers were going in and out of the outside door they would use the handicapped button so the door stayed open far longer than if they just opened it manually. Thus, hundreds of mosquitoes came in and hung around our table which was very irritating. We also felt like the prices were just a little on the high side. But overall we enjoyed the dinner overlooking the lake very much. It was a nice relaxing atmosphere.

We rented a 3 bedroom cottage for the family and had a blast! Restaurant and pool were still closed due to the Covid-19 shutdowns, but overall, we had a great time.

Great vacation away from it all. Staff is helpful, food is amazing (made the mistake of going to town one day and eating at Red Stu, totally not worth it!), comfortable bed, coffee pot in room and deck with a view made every morning perfect.

We stayed in the main lodge not a cabin but it was very clean and newly remodeled. The service was helpful and the owner was there all weekend helping her staff any way she could. We had a great family weekend on the lake enjoying all the water toys and activities!

Beautiful place, not very friendly, I should say if you dont have a reservation. Stopped by on a whim for a drink, they wouldnt accommodate my friend and myself. Very young staff.

Ruttger’s is One of the best resorts I’ve stayed at! Their food is also amazing!!! They just did a lot of remodeling and it looks great!

Ruttgers is one of the places i remember as childhood memories. It is updated and has more Swimming equipment than i remember as a child. I am giving 3 stars and not 5 because the prices are a little on the spendy side. for 2 nights on a monday and tuesday night it was 830.02 tax included. no discounts. otherwise it was worth every penny. I will definitely be returning to stay a week. hopefully i will find a discount to use by then. Thank You

Stopped in for an afternoon of swimming, lounging and lunch. Kids loved the beach and the huge water toys. Great menu and service. Friendly atmosphere that reminded us of the resort in dirty dancing Ha. Kids were asking if we could come back even before we left.

Ruttgers is such a great place. Ive been coming up from Chicago for years. I got some additional family to come up last year and they are hooked.

My family had the first Thanksgiving Buffet served at Ruttgers and we loved it! I dont think Ive ever had turkey so moist and delicious. The wild rice soup was fantastic. I really was surprised at how good of a job they did. Our waitress was awesome! I would definitely go back again. Thank you!

It is very charming yester-year ambiance like something from when peoplesummered by the lake. The rooms were large and comfortable.

Lovely place to stay or eat,... Or both! It is pricey but if thats not an issue is a great place to go. Also a great place to stay for a night or two if you want a mini vacay but dont wanna travel far if your from town.

Friendly helpful service. Rooms are not quiet or relaxing. No phones in room to call front desk. Continental breakfast was good. There were chunks in the pool.

Very Family friendly...just wasnt expecting to have to go outside to get to the pool in the dead of winter.

This is a review of the restaurant, bar and food. The beer selection was disappointing, they use to have a much better selection. The walleye fingers were highly recommended by the staff and Id had them a year or two ago and they were great, but this time they were tough and dry, so over cooked. Ill go back and give them another shot, but only because I been here like 6 times before and the food and service had been exceptional up to this most recent experience, which was the least satisfying of my visits.

No towel bars in the bathroom...weird.Water had a sulphur iron smell and taste.Cold hard boiled eggs for breakfast...sheesh...no meats, no hot eggs.These folks need to step it up.

Classic lake resort, recently updated rooms in main lodge.

The food was good, decor was nice, looked up dated. Our server was nice, but seemed in experienced. Had to ask for cream and sugar for coffee, had to ask for refills of water. Overall it was a nice dining experience.

Morgan the Bartender is Phenomenal! Spent a week there, enjoyed our cabins on the lake, would highly recommend to others. Update: its been a year since our visit, and my sister was married there. My children still mention our cabin in Minnesota weekly if not daily. The memories made there have had a lasting impression, and my children cant wait to go back.

The interior and exterior was from 1-10 a 100, but the service and the food were sub par and over priced, but the view and atmosphere were wonderful.....

Server was very kind and accommodating with our party of 6 inside the restaurant. Food was outstanding. I tried the Bison & Wild Rice burger. Was done to my preference and very tender, juicy burger. Fries were excellent and the water was fresh and pure. Also had a diet cola. Great checking in and felt attended to wonderfully. Would definitely go eat here again!

Dont go here if youre an adult trying to use the hot tub. It was full of toddlers with pool noodles even though the sign clearly stated nobody under the age of 10. Staff and management did absolutely nothing and told me not to come on the weekend. WTF

Old fashioned resort feel. live music at supper in the dining room with excellent menu selection. Some remodeling projects ongoing, especially trying to walk from Cedar Lodge to main lodge...difficult going over pebbles, etc.

The place is amazing with them remodeling everything. Great warm and cozy feel throught the resort. The outside patio is a nice spot to relax with a wonderful view of the lake.

Great wait staff, very considerate of our needs and special requests. Special was Half off on bottle of wine! Our group grew in numbers so we got a larger table. Note . Reservations are highly recommended.

We had dinner in the new bar, the remodel is just beautiful and so welcoming. The food was amazing but....... the only draw back to the hole experience is the noise in the new bar is deafening..... Please put some sound absorbers in the space the noise from all the people talking was terrible. My husband actually put in ear plugs and said he could still hear everyone talking.

Visited during a wine social event. Insanely crowded and insufficient space for the venue. Inside decor was weird...old white wicker furniture in a remodeled space. Rustic charm gone. Design theme now remains a mystery.

Great history, long time location on famous MN Bemidji lake, old style resort with cabins or main lodge rooms. Fabulous restaurant reasonable rates includes breakfast. Pool and activities available. Close to town. Friendly atmosphere, I have returned several years in a row for a relaxing week on the lake.

I have only ever gone here for swimming at the pool. Its always clean and well kept. Price is the same as open swim at hotels. They have a nice hot tub. I only wish they have more room in the building itself. They could make some nice money with the pool in a much bigger building.

We have stayed at posh resorts but while Ruttgers isn’t fancy, it was the best vacation ever. It felt like home, food was great (I even bought soup in quantity to bring home). People were great too. Very warm and friendly. They clearly love their jobs. We met people who have been coming back every year for decades. We will now be one of those people. Thank you.
