5 stars because I had an absolute blast, and so did my friends.Theres room for improvement though. The website certainly didnt do the place justice. We all expected a slightly less genuine camping experience and thought the hike would be a walk in the park, but both expectations were blown out of the water. The campsite was beautiful and the hike was a legitimate fitness test. Yes, this is more of a pro than a con, but the website could use some sprucing up.The main shortcoming of the campground was the steep slope leading down to the bathhouse and vending area. My knees were doing just fine after our 3 hour hike, but got destroyed by the slope in the campground. Its really not very walkable, yet we had to walk it at least 2-3 times a day. Id highly recommend either installing steps on the side of the path or relocating the bathhouse to the center of the campground, although I realize these are pretty tall asks.Aside from the above, I only have praises. The platform setup plus food delivery service made for a truly stress-free getaway for my group, who were largely amateur campers and just wanted to get away for a weekend without too much planning. A pure camping experience with no setup at all wouldve been out of question for us, but Maloufs made it possible to experience the same quality camping excursion. Views from the overlook on hike #2 were spectacular. And the food quality was also shockingly good; the steaks were amazing, after some well-timed BBQing.

If I could, I would give it 6 stars. Place is gorgeous, everything is taken care of and stuff is extremely nice and helpful. We knew it would be a good spot when it had average 5.0 stars but honestly exceeded the expectations. Great spot if it’s your first time camping and staying in the tents

Just a wonderful family run campground that is simply delightful. I visit 3 to 4 times a year and its wonderful for camping with kids or for camping with your friends. Also, the best camp dog this side of the Mississippi.

Just went with a few friends for Labor Day weekend and had a total blast! Having to hike in and out of the campgrounds was a real fun experience. We took the 2.5 hour hike and boy is that hard but totally worth it! The staff was more than just accommodating, they are the most friendliest people you’ll meet; a real treat coming from the city. If you forget anything at home for your camp site, they will help you out no questions asked! Bathrooms are super clean, campground is perfect! I’m already planning our next trip up!!

Great experience. Perfect for our first camping with 6YO. Solid hiking, lots to explore, friendly staff. We enjoyed a site right next to a stream. We got rain two nights and stayed perfectly dry while sleeping on the platform site with provided tent. We brought our own food and the provided materials, amenities are well maintained/cared for.

Everyone was so helpful and kind! They made it super easy for us to camp despite coming from the city on a train and not being able to bring food, a tent, chairs, etc. We had the perfect weekend--thank you guys!

We can’t wait to come back! This place is really easy to get to from NYC and especially if you choose platform camping you will have everything you need. It’s rare to meet a group of people as truly welcoming as the staff here are. They even have bathrooms, toilets, showers, and sinks that they somehow keep immaculately clean and comfortable. I am so glad we made it our here in the very last days of the summer!

Great camp site and the staff was fantastic! We got pretty lost and our hike took way longer than it should but one of the staff members Brian met us out there with flashlights and some drinks! Great trip and easy from NYC, just make sure you listen to the directions when they drop you off for the hike in!

Ill keep the train going on solid reviews, we camped for the weekend hiking in early on Friday (hike 2 was no joke in the heat but beautiful) and all we wanted when we arrived was to clean up and eat. When we got to our campsite all of our stuff was waiting for us as advertised! We were able to shower (showers were clean), start up a fire, set up our tent and cook an awesome meal over the fire. The whole weekend was a mix of awesome outdoors, beautiful views, great campfire cooking and super friendly folks all around (campers and staff). Couldnt recommend Maloufs highly enough and well be back for sure.

Wonderful campground. Perfect if you are coming from NYC as they will pick you up straight from the train station at Beacon and take your stuff to the camp and drop you off at the start of the hike in of which there are several choices depending on how much you want to walk. Once you get there the area is beautifully secluded but they provide all of the camping essentials you need. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and helpful.

Just came back from a trip here with two of my friends for July 4th. We all loved our experience here. We stayed in a platform site, with tent, cooking wares, matches, lantern, and more provided. The hiking trails were also beautiful, and just challenging enough! Dick, Tracy, and Deb were the most accommodating and nicest hosts -- Deb went to her personal house to grab some hot sauce for us, and delivered it to our site directly. Such a great time, Id highly recommend. Well be back for sure.

Had a great time here. So many good things to say:- shuttle from the train station to the mountain was great. Very convenient to be picked up and have our packs taken to the campsite while we enjoyed a hike.- individual campsites were pretty private- the primitive campsite had everything we needed - a fire pit and grill for cooking, firewood, a picnic table, and a tarp to cover everything in the event of inclement weather- the bathhouse was clean and stocked with toilet paper. Showers were great as well.- some really good hikes in this area. The trails were pretty well marked. We were a bit out of shape and took it easy, but there were all kinds of challenging hikes with some great views.- The staff were great as well. Very helpful and personable. We had such a great time we decided to book again this season.

My family and i had a wonderful time here. The staff is very sweet and helpful. We reserved a platform site and it was perfect. They did have a dig off the leash who barked at me one time when i tried to walk down the path to the bathroom and then later that day tried to steal our steak from our campsite. The view is beautiful up there.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at a platform site. We were picked up at the train station by Shelia who took us to the trailhead so we can hike in. Our gear was delivered to our site and ready when we got there. The campsite is beautiful. Clean showers and bathrooms. Beautuful views. Owner Dick Malouf is there to help plan a hike or just chat about his mountain. The platform site has everything you need for cooking. A 2 burner propane stovetop as well as a chowbox with everything you need to cook. A protected fire pit for smores. Brian brought our wood and our cooler with the food we ordered. Dick put lots of planning into the design of his Mountain Retreat. Cant wait to return.

Amazing spot. Literally everything is taken care of here, apart from having to hike 30 mins in and out (they even take your bags for you)! Great place to escape the city, cook over the fire and enjoy the many hiking trails in the area. The staff are incredibly friendly and will do everything they can to make your stay enjoyable.

This is 10/10 my favorite camp ground. Great weekend get away from the city, even without equipment or a car!! They pick you up from the train station and can provide equipment and food. You can stay at your site for a low key weekend to yourself, go hiking on the mountain, or hangout at the picnick area and play games, talk and drink with other campers and camp staff.

Spent a night here last weekend with three other friends. None of us had been camping in a long time and our whole experience at Maloufs made it easy and enjoyable for us. The shuttle from the train station is very convenient, especially since they bring your items to your campsite which lets you hike in.The platform sites are great and provide everything you need, you can order food items beforehand that they place at your site for you, and the facilities were all very clean and well-maintained.Id recommend bringing a camp-fire log or at least some newspaper to help get your fire going, especially if it has rained in the past week. Also, request a campsite closer to the facilities if your group is not as in shape/have a lot of children, as some of the sites can be a decent climb down and up from the bathrooms.Overall great experience, cant wait to go back!

Spent there two nights camping in october, when the leaves started to change color. We slept on a platform in our own tent, but they do have a primitave site if you wish to sleep on the ground. If you dont have a tent, they can provide you with one. Each site has a fire pit, and you can choose to get fire wood too. Their camping ground also has toilets, sinks, showers and washing mashine. Everything you would need for camping too, including pre-ordered food. All you really need is a sleeping bag and a sleeping pad and things you want to bring for the hike. The people who work there are super friendly and helpful. Their correspondence is pretty steady, you wont be left waiting for their reply regarding reservation. Also theyll tell you the best trails with views or simple directions to town. Id definitely come back again and would recommend it to other people who want to experience camping outdoors.
