Mainly horse riding paths, only parking thats connected is at the Barrington Hills Riding Center. Dont expect clear pathways, mainly large wide grassy paths meant for horses.

No public vehicle access. You have to own an adjoining property or go on foot to the (barely marked) trailheads in order to enter. The message is clear: if youre not a rich local, youre not wanted here. Id love to leave a more full review of what the preserve has to offer its elite clientele but I couldnt even get inside the damn place.

Spring Lake (creek) cook county forest preserve may appear beautiful at first from a car window but it is basically enter at your own risk in most areas. Beverly Lake is labeled as secluded and due to this, there can be some scary people in the parking lot. The trails are rugged under the veil of conservation and someone who does not hike regularly in areas where roots and holes emerge, could get hurt. The only actual trail head is near the riding center, and that was fought for in the early 2000s after forest preserve officials were told they couldnt enter and realized it was on forest preserve land.Horizon Farms, which is practically adjacent and also one of the largest purchases of land for cook county forest preserve has been shut down for almost ten years since purchase. It sums up much.Go to Dupage and Lake County to enjoy their quality trails which have a number of activities and feel safe. After you see the differences, remember that Spring Lake and Horizon are Cook county forest preserves, NOT Barrington Hills forest preserves, monitor this nonsense and vote.

Trails look good, but the northern section is really hard to access. No place to park.

Surprisingly pretty. Trails are rustic. Wear boots, hiking or rain. Its muddy, but thats only a problem if you think it is.

An exceptionally pleasing place of serenity. To be honest, I would love to keep this sanctuary secret, but, Im not built that way. I learned to share at a very early age. This is the place where Generations can come sit, Explorer, distress, enjoy and love the environment.

The most barberry-infested nature preserve I have ever seen. I still think about the awfulness I saw there, like a bad dream. Deer caught in the thorns, barberry taller than me ... it literally was a solid understory.
