This is slight detour from Aztec. It has some very interesting facts about the region and ancient peoples that resided there. There is a short walk through self tour. I recommend this place for a short day trip or a slight detour if you’re in the area.

Found this place by accident this summer while in the area. Well worth the stop to see a well preserved Pueblo. The main kiva has been reconstructed to really give the feel of going back in time. Wondering around the ruins was a great experience.

Free, Awesome, Must visit. Its easy to get overwhelmed with ruins in this part of the country but the rebuilt Kiva here is Amazing along with the other ruins that you can walk through and see them being actively restored. You can buy a trail guide or follow along on your phone. I used my phone but lost reception in the Pueblo. Its not huge, youll probably spend 30-45 minutes here. After visiting Mesa Verde and everything being closed, this was a highlight.

This is a very interesting location, but small. You can visit the museum and the site itself in under two hours. Absolutely worth a visit, but not a full day experience. Gift shop is rather small, but has some fun finds. Highly recommend, but plan another event to go with your day in town as well.

Ruins of the first local civilization in area. Some bldgs as found, a few rebuilt to demonstrate their functionality. Easy walking, even with aging joints. Good for all ages, some seasonal events hosted. And free. Contribution accepted, if youve enjoyed the time spent.

We traveled along the border between Colorado and New Mexico visiting the history of our country that was overlooked as I was in school long ago. Our government has invested lots to preserve the ruins of the original residents of the United States. What a great opportunity to see first hand the ways of the original AMERICANS...

One of the locations related to to Chaco site, just higher up in elevation and directly north, Aztec site and Chaco site had a lot of direct communication, so theres a lot of very important history here. Great explanations of each site, we were impressed by the kivas that we could walk through, as well as the well kept hallways through the buildings. Would definitely make a stop here. Its important to know the history that is here.

We came here the day after going to mesa verde. After having to pay $35 and being unable to see anything up close or touch anything due to multiple day waiting list it was really pleasant to be given ultimate freedom to fully appreciate the beauty of those before us. The rangers were all very kind and knowledgable and Im glad that this is something that I can say Ive done. I definitely recommend this for anybody whos interested in history

This is a great National Monument. Easy to get to, and close to a town... Aztec. Parking is free, as is admission to the ruins. They have a great gift shop where you can buy postcards and other kinds of souvenirs. What you do is walk around a nice paved trail, where you can actually go through the restored Kiva and Dwelling Places. Its only about a half of mile walk, and they have a beautiful Museum and interpretive Center in the building. The history of the people and area is very well presented by friendly staff.

Amazing place. This incredible architecture aligned perfectly with all the correctly astronomical markers. The sad story is the builders of these magnificent structures were Puebloans... not Aztecs. The mistake just continues to be propagated because apparently it was misnamed by the Spanish invaders long ago and now there is no will in Congress to change the error. A must see.

It was easy to get to and moving around the site was easy.It wasnt difficult to see how the people occupied the site almost a thousand years ago.Rangers were friendly and informative. Great stop when you are traveling through the area. The first time I stopped off here was because I needed a break on a road trip and I was looking for an interesting place to stop and get some exercise. It worked out perfect but I have been back since then just to spend more time walking around the ruins. You can get a free guide to use from the visitor center and then go explore on your own. There is a large indoor section you can walk through with all the original ceilings. Clean bathrooms at the visitor center, friendly staff, right off the main highway and a picnic area. Very nice!

There is something special about this place. I went when it was cold a while back, but I still think about how cool it was, so I am leaving a review. We were passing through New Mexico, and my parents suggested that we stop by this park, since I am interested in ancient peoples of the Americas. I had no idea there were Aztec ruins in New Mexico, and the whole experience really put things into perspective. The park rangers and the other curators are super friendly and full of info. I learned a lot and enjoyed the walk. I really reccomend visiting, its interesting and if you like visiting ancient sites, then I HIGHLY reccomend it. I also learned a lot about the people of the Chaco culture, who are still here today.
