Im a wedding photographer and I absolutely love photographing weddings at the Wildflower Center! The library area has such stunning light for those classic getting ready photos, and the wildflowers offer such a beautiful backdrop for the formal portraits. My couple opted to get married indoors and have the reception outdoors. I usually recommend couples have an outdoor ceremony because the lighting is better, but the lighting in the indoor space at the Wildflower Center turned out to be absolutely stunning! The natural stone walkway leading to the event space is another great spot for portraits. I absolutely loved working here and hope to be back soon! Highly recommend this venue.

Gorgeous place to take a stroll. Took my little daughter here to see the greenery, she loved it. Bought our tickets online and they pulled it up with our names when we got there quick. My daughter absolutely loved the flowers and the little waterfalls. I get my steps in and my daughter gets to appreciate nature. Win-win. Will definitely visit here again.

Very nice walk, amazing diversity of texas plants and a great place to take kids for a family day out. The reception staff was quick and helpful and provided information on what paths were unavailable during the season (its 2020, so theres a disease going around). Most plants had a marker with the scientific name and some regional information that made taking time to stop and learn very rewarding. Highly recommend, Id love to visit when everything is open to check out the cafe.

Great place to visit outside of Austin. Well-preserved and what I loved the most was the variety and and how well it is taken care of. Plenty of parking and great trails to explore variety of wild plants. The trails are quiet and peaceful. A great place to spend some quite time and explore. They have a nice gift.shop, restaurant and the restrooms are very clean and well maintained. There are couple of towers and great views, and fields. UT students go free and $2 discounts for students with a student ID. You can find staff on site who would be ready to answer questions.

Such a lovely place. Parking is always a challenge on the weekends, so be prepared. We’ve parked in the neighborhood nearby a couple times, it’s a bit of a walk but it’s also shaded! The gardens are beautiful, especially in spring! Wildflowers were amazing this year, thank you rain! Never eaten at the cafe but it’s nice that it’s an option. Lots of fun for kids, my daughter had fun finding all the animal statues, and of course the water play area was a hit. Love visiting.

This is a lovely place to spend an afternoon! Granted, its small enough so that a couple of hours is all you need to explore. The central part of the Center has nicely landscaped paths, a tower that overlooks the main grounds, an expansive knowledge center, and a nice store. I liked it so much, I became an annual member There have been wedding ceremonies when Ive visited, so it seems to be a popular wedding venue. It has its own parking lot but it does get full pretty quickly during busy weekends - on the upside, theres also street parking. The best time to come is early spring, when the wildflowers (bluebells, etc) are in bloom.

This is such a wonderful place! I forget that it is here in South Austin. Yesterday I had two unrelated losses of loved ones, both unexpected. I decided to take the day off from work to try to recenter myself, so I jumped on my motorcycle and headed out of town, before I was ten miles from home I saw the sign for the center. I havent been here in years so I pulled in. Plenty of easy parking, nice people at the gate, very nice people in gift shop, sweet young lady served me in the cafe. The people were much kinder than those I interacted with at Seton yesterday. I needed the kind people and the incredible peace that comes when strolling the varying landscaped concepts of the best our Hill Country has to offer. Great place to center, balance and recharge.

If you’re in the Austin area, you must stop by the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. There are so many really neat things to check out, and it’s a fun place to explore! The variety of plants they have is amazing, and being a visitor to Austin, it taught me a lot about the natural Texas landscape. The paths and gardens throughout are very well maintained. There are plenty of picnic locations, natural playgrounds for kids, and a lot of interactive stations. You could easily spend an entire afternoon here. Very disappointing in some respects. What used to be about Texas wildflowers and plants has now added essentially a playground for kids. With all the great parks in Austin, it is unfortunate that they found it necessary to convert this place to one.

The Lady Bird Johnson WildFlower Center is a Texas gem featuring an abundance of learning experience from Flora to fauna.Nestled just south of Austins premiere downtown area, the WildFlowern Center is easy to access on the weekends. We went early in the day in late July and the weather was beautiful. There is is plenty of shade too in the event the area gets hot. There is currently road construction on the 1 south, so anticipate a bit more time to gain access the the location.Once we arrived, parking was not an issue. We parked very close to the entrance and unloaded our stroller with ease. There are well cared for foot paths that are stroller friendly that lead to the park entrance. The day we went, admission was free as it is once a year on Lady Birds Birthday (July 28th). Normally adults are $10 a head. Certainly worth the price of admission. The center is very family friendly and an easy walk for the elderly.Inside youll find several air conditioned buildings and even a cafe featuring sandwhiches, ice cream, soda and iced Tea. We did purchase a cookie and drinks. The cookie was old and stale but the prices were very reasonable.I recommend taking notes if the printed tour map given to you during the admission process. Theres a ton of wonderful information and the map will also guide you through the center with relative ease. There are many small offshoot paths from the main path, so if you are the adventurous type, this should fit your fancy.I also recommend going in all of the buildings that are open. The architecture is incredible and inspiring.Make your way up the San Antonio tower for a view of the surrounding area.

Took our family out here for the Fort Landia exhibit and we had a great time. It is not far out of the city which was nice. The entry area was beautiful and had this central pond that was surrounded by some buildings which contained bathrooms as well as an area for snacks. The walking path was nice and there were places to sit as you went making it easy for all levels of fitness. The bathrooms that were in the middle of the path were out of order which turned out to be inconvenient bring that both our girls needed to use them while out there. The forts were absolutely the best part. We had so much fun at all the different designs and they did a good job of spacing them out. I will try and post a pic or two but wont spoil them all. We went of the middle of February, and most plants were dormant. However, being able to identify plants when they are dormant is a handy ability to have. We had a very reasonably priced lunch in the Wildflower cafe, with its broad expanse of picture windows and hand painted chairs. We wandered the nearly vacant grounds, enjoying the quiet and peace. We couldnt take in the whole park in a single visit. We climbed the three flights of the circular stone stairway to the top of the tower with its magnificent views of the Texas Hill country and, in the distance, downtown Austin, followed the trail through the grasslands to the family area, searched out the hidden giant wind chimes, and more. The grounds were full of art in the form of realistic animal sculptures as well as contemporary stone and glass works. We scoped out the shop too which had some unique items in addition to usual tourist fare.

We found this cool plant area where bees and butterflies hang out. Got to teach the little ones to enjoy nature. Without lady bird, we would see high rise developments in Grand Canyon. Former first lady Lady Bird Johnson and actress Helen Hayes founded the National Wildflower Research Center in 1982 to protect and preserve North Americas native plants and natural landscapes. The original center was located on a 60-acre site in East Austin. Public demand to view native gardens and learn more about native plants soon overwhelmed the original site, and led the Board of Directors to build a larger campus to accommodate public interest. The current campus opened in 1995 on a 42-acre site in Southwest Austin on La Crosse Avenue. Five acres of native plant gardens and landscapes, designed by J. Robert Anderson, FASLA (principal), Eleanor McKinney (EMLA) and Darrel Morrison (FASLA), were installed throughout a complex of award-winning buildings designed by Overland Partners to reflect the land and regional architecture of the Texas Hill Country.
