Im fascinated by the history and culture showcased in this awesome space. Ryan Salinas really is continuing a legacy left by his late grandmother. There is curated art on the walls. You can find amazing plays written by local playwrights, there is graffiti, dance, Ballet Folklorico and print media. There is a cafe serving delicious comida and Aqua de Jamaica. There are 90 seats and wheelchair access.

Nice atmosphere. Bring cash as they don’t take cards. Small operation. The attendant made apple empanadas from scratch and they were delicious. Seating area is a little small. I had a great time with the comedians there. Make sure you get a parking permit upon payment and put it in your windshield to avoid getting towed.

Chairs are springy and the AC is hot hot hot. Sauna quality. Also. Parking East Austin is like finding Nemo but Nemo was already dead. So you park at your own risk.But. Great performances! Bouncing in your chair sweating away wondering when your car will be towed as the actors spouting Shakespeare verses? Yes please. Also with their cheap tickets, youll save enough to pay for the parking tickets.

Sweet little theater space. Enjoyed seeing City Theaters production of the bawdy Lysistrata there. The only reason it doesnt get a five star is the parking situation. There are only about 10-12 vehicles.

Excellent performance venue in the heart of East Austin. Home of the Aztlan Dance Co. A beautiful space for performance artists of all types. Check the calendar for upcoming shows and reach out to the crew to book the space for your event/performance. There arent many original East Side spots left - this is one of the few remaining gems.

Really cool and eclectic small theater. Seats could use a little updating and the projector seemed to be having trouble, but overall its a very neat space.

A friend and I bought tickets to see Las Madres at the Santa Cruz Theater. We found the venue to be very cozy and the production itself worthy of Broadway. It depicts a community torn apart by the vicious and real dictatorship of Argentina in the eighties and highlights the effects on several mothers as more and more citizens disappear. The way these women choose to resist demonstrates the courage necessary to confront a governments wrong doings. There is, of course, a price to pay...but how does a community quantify the value of thirty thousand missing? I dont know if all of this theaters productions are of human interest, but this one certainly packs a solid message and remembrance.
