Stumbled across this by accident. Great 30 min tour; guide (Bill) was knowledgeable and great storyteller. interesting to learn about Margaret Mitchell and sit in the room where she wrote her Pulitzer Prize winning novel - which was not originally intended to be published. If you like history you will enjoy it- This is a great little site to see that you can do in under an hour.

This is a tourist trap. It isnt even the original house. The original burned to the ground twice and this is a false tourist creation. The original was a row house that faced 10th Street. If you are a local who has been in Atlanta for over 30 years then you know thia to be true. If you are a tourist, dont even bother with this fake tourist trap.

This was my second time visiting the Margaret Mitchell House. I found the staff cheery, yet cheeky. You know the kind of cheeky when you walk into a place & the staff all seem to, at-once, put on these forced grins in attempts at making you feel genuinely welcomed. Other than that, the tour went well. The house & grounds have been kept up well. Our tour guide was actually quite knowledgeable. She offered additional facts that I didnt know otherwise. The souvenirs werent top quality, as Id remembered them being in the past. But then again, now what really is these days???

Very historic place, plus the tour was very informative and guide very knowledgeable. They did a great job restoring the place to as close to what it wouldve been like when Margret was writing her masterpiece. They also have a small exhibit in a separate building next door with film about the making of Gone With The Wind and relics from the opening in Atlanta.

What a surprise! All the museums and public places are opened in Atlanta long long time ago after COVID quarantine but only this real pearl is still hidden behind the locked gates. Are they trying to protect it from vandals? I hope so! I was very upset that missed my chance to see the birthplace of Gone With The Wind.

I came to Margaret Mitchell House for an event at night. Totally recommended. Incredible reception in the house, there we could enjoy the beauty of the architecture of the house and part of the history. Then the event continued in the patio, that it is great for a spring or summer night event. The dinner was in an other modern saloon that is in the patio. That saloon was great but restrooms are inside of the house. It meas that if it rains you have to cross the patio to go to the restrooms. After that everything perfect. Always is good to support local association that maintain historical building related with local culture.

In the middle of the high rises and upscale apartments, this museum is a nice place to see what Atlanta used to be like. The guided tour by the docent, Margaret, was interesting and she was very nice. I felt underwhelmed as it is really just a tour of a few rooms making up Mitchels apartment. The room about the movie didnt really have much to see. Overall, it was nice for a short visit, I only stayed about an hour, but Im glad that I did it.

The building has been restored and remodeled and is a historic treasure in the middle of midtown. All of the staff was friendly and accommodating. Not a fan of either the book or the film, so there wasnt much to enjoy about this particular attraction, its basically just a replica of the room she lived in and a lot about the actors from the film. Thoroughly enjoyed my tour of the house. Margaret our guide was very knowledgeable. One thing that bothered me was too much emphasis on slavery. I know the book begins at the the start of the civil war. But the book was really about the struggles of Scarlett and her love for Ashley. Being an independent woman during the aftermath of the war.Enjoyed the story of Margaret Mitchells life and then death.

Good tour to do if youre a fan of Gone With The Wind or curious about Margaret Mitchell. Tour guides and staff are knowledgeable and super friendly. The whole thing took less than an hour unless you decide to watch the film about the making of the movie. Parking is free but limited. It is shared with a credit union and saturday morning was crazy. I spent 20 mins circling the before ending up parking on a side street (metered parking).

Just as Margaret Mitchell laughed at Selznick and his production teams ideas for the design of Tara, Twelve Oaks, etc. for the movie Gone With the Wind, shed definitely get a chuckle over what has become of the dump, as she called her basement apartment here in the early 1930s. The No. 1 apartment has been recreated to give guests the feeling that they are actually walking through the fully-furnished dwelling where Mitchell and husband John Marsh lived (1925-1932) and wrote the bulk of GWTW. Wikipedia has a detailed history of the structure. After a fire destroyed much of the building in 1994, it was rebuilt and opened to the public.

Great place to understand Margaret Mitchell and the story of Gone with the Wind, the novel. Actually, the guiders explanation is really helpful to understand the novel and the authors history, such as what the idea and story plot was came from. Actually, the story is part of Margaret Mitchells tragic life story although the background is different, like WWI and Civil War. Scarlett Ohara in the novel may be the avatar of Mitchell. If you see the movie or read the novel, I recommend that you visit here to understand the behind story of the novel. Also, if you buy the pass at the entrance, you can get the ticket to visit other historic places in Atlanta with low price.
