Getting to experience Jim Hensons The Dark Crystal exhibition was a great joy! Im glad we made it in time before it left. The Center For Puppetry Arts is a gem of a museum curated and run by people who have a love for not only the arts but the craft of puppetry. Please be sure to support them during this pandemic and to soak in every exhibit they have to offer and by proxy absorb some of the magic created by the puppets weve loved!

This was my firts time at The Center For Puppetry Arts. And I had a great time there, from the beginning to the end. You will enjoy the whole tour, I will say if you are a kid or an adult, it doesnt matter because all the characters you will see there, you have grow up watching them on TV. Like Sesame Street, or The Night Before Christmas, The Dark Crystal and much more. This museum is located in downtown, and its difficult to park there but, hey, the museum have free parking, them you put your mask get in, pay for the tickets and get ready for a puppet journey through time, you will see the beginning of Puppetry, how to make one, them you will walk to several exhibitions, the 50 years Muppets celebration and The Dark Crystal labyrinth were my favorites, dont miss this unique opportunity to watch this exhibition so close and enjoy the ride.

Amazing and a steal at $15 for adults and $12 for seniors! Right now, only the museum is open, but wow, they have the largest collection of Jim Henson items! They have an amazing array of puppets from all over the world. The Dark Crystal exhibit is incredible but it will be gone after November 1st. They are doing a great job. Hand sanitizer everywhere, social distancing in place and timed tickets! Go, it was a blast! Good for kids and adults.

What a great experience! Visited to tour the museum and it did not disappoint. The Center has done an amazing job implementing COVID-19 safety measures, providing social distancing markers, flow arrows for touring exhibits, implementing a mask policy, and providing hand sanitizer in each room of the museum. I felt completely safe. They even have a concierge via webcam ready to answer any questions you may have about the museum - how clever! All of the staff were incredibly friendly and it truly shows that they are there to share the art of puppetry with all visitors. Cannot wait to visit again - all exhibits were beautifully curated and it was such a treat to be able to experience the special Dark Crystal exhibit.

Obviously, some of the exhibits were down due to covid but the whole Jim Henson area was amazing for the history alone and the skill/time these people put into their craft. Wasnt as huge a fan of the global area but still an interesting spot to see the difference between global puppetry spots. Dark Crystal area was probably my highlight as I really enjoy that universe.

Cool and unique little museum. Not too expensive, but probably wouldnt go more than once per year. The displays are full of information and the Jim Henson m/puppets are the best. Dont expect to spend more than about an hour here though unless you plan on seeing a puppet show. Here is the main reason I took one star off. This museum [was] part of a program that gives free admission to Active Duty service members between Memorial Day and Labor Day. For some unknown reason the museum has backed out of the program and hasnt informed anyone. Im not a douche canoe whos gonna raise a fuss in the museum, and honestly $12,50 for a ticket isnt going to break the bank for me and my two kids, but still kinda messed up that they changed their participation in the program without telling anyone. That being said, still go! Its worth the visit. I didnt take any pictures that you cant find anywhere else in Google Reviews, Im just posting these for the points

This is an amazing place for looking at and experiencing puppets. There are 3 parts to this museum history, Jim Henson (creator of muppets and sesame street), and a changing puppet room. The history part was great with a wide variety of puppets from different countries and they even have puppets from Gumby and The Corpse Bride. The Jim Henson exhibit was amazing with so many of his famous puppets that made me star struck. The last part is a room thats themed and changed the time I went it was themed The Dark Crystal and had a lot of the characters from the movie. Overall my trip there was great and would highly recommend that anyone go and give this place a visit

We had a great time at the Center for Puppetry Arts! It’s a very special museum as it is so unique. We also went to Beauty and the Beast show which was very fun and creative! At the end of the show they explained how they did it (awesome) and we all went upstairs and the kids made this fun craft of the beast! That part was very organized and the kids had a blast. One minor inconvenience is that since the sections of the museum are separate rooms they keep asking for the tickets. So keep them handy at all times because if you misplace them in your purse or lose them there may be a hold up. Other than that it was an awesome time!

The museum is small, but there is still a lot to read about, interact with, and see. Expect to spend no less than an hour here. On average, I make it through the entire museum in about 2 hours. Im a huge fan of Jim Henson and primarily come here for the special exhibitions for the Labyrinth and Dark Crystal. Im never disappointed, as there is always something new to see! We were in town visiting Atlanta over Christmas and found this gem on suggested places to visit. On Christmas Eve we attended the the production of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and were mesmerized by the performance. Weve never seen anything like it and will definitely make a point to schedule our return trips to include a show here. Theres a childrens craft themed to fit the show that is included with your ticket purchase. This is also a museum that has childrens interactive role playing staged within the Jim Henson gallery. Make plans to visit the museum, do a craft, and enjoy a beautiful performance!!

We went on a Tuesday afternoon and there werent many other guests there. We practically had the place to ourselves! We did the Jim Henson tour and were the only ones in the tour group. The tour was only a few dollars more than the self-guided museum entry ticket, and I definitely recommend it. You learn a lot more about Hensons work with the guided tour, and our tour guide Megan was the best! All of the staff members that I interacted with were very friendly and knowledgeable. The museum is well curated and very interesting. The three other members of my party (who werent Muppet fans) thoroughly enjoyed it! I have always loved the Center and have taken my children there for 20 years now. However we went on a recent field trip (reduced rate is good) and saw Stellaluna. The play, though good enough in itself, was performed in an overt style (seeing the puppeteers in the open) was disappointing. Im an adult and I know there are people working the puppets. I just dont want to see them, watch their mouths move along with the puppets mouths and see them as part of the performance. The smaller children there didnt seem to mind, but mine were disappointed...and so was I. The regular ticket price is a bit much at $25. Try to set up a field trip with 10 or more and its about half price, including a make a puppet workshop. It can be quite unorganized in the workshop if a lot of children are participating, so ask for the puppet kit to go if youre a loner, have several small children to help or strapped for time. They are always fun and usually include all you need to complete it at home. For educators or home-schooled families, there are usually resources and extra related info on the website, or within the program leaflet. Also, a coordinator can give you more info on resources as well.

And got to see an original Gumby and Tim Servo and CROOOOOOOOW! They also had a Collection devoted to the Dark Crystal. Including models, sketches, and clothing for the movie. The gift shop was full of different puppets and sets for sale, but we were disappointed in the lack of items branded with the centers name. They only offered magnets.
