I’ve been going to Pine Dunes for the 6 years since they opened, and the restoration has been remarkable. [ 2020 Update...Restoration appears to be complete, with the workers trailer removed ]Multiple ponds and hillocks combined with extensive prarie areas, and some woodlands make for a diverse selection of wildlife and wildflowers.July is best for wildflowers, except asters. In Spring you’ll see a variety of water birds, and there are wonderful colors in Autumn. I saw my first mink there yesterday. If you’re a regular, you’ll see something new every few days along the 2+ miles of trails. It’s also a nice place to run in the winter, but a little windy.
I really love this trail. I like running here and my son loves walking with me. Everything is always really maintained. The only issue I have is all of the dog poop that is everywhere. People do not clean up after their dogs. I’ve seen people with poop bags on their dogs leash just let the dog go and walk away.
Great Trail. About 2 and 1/4 miles. Very Scenic. Relatively flat. Crushed Limestone path. Really nice.
Not many pines or dunes. Pretty basic hiking trail. Only the last (or first) half mile of the little less than 2 mile trail has woods and some shade.
Hidden gem of the Lake County Forest Preserve System.
This is one of my favorite places to walk. I took a couple of new people there today and they loved it too. The trail is well maintained and clean. I love seeing the wildlife.
Be careful of the unprofessional clowns at Native Landscape Contractors; they exhibit a reckless abandon when it comes to safety using chemicals and power equipment. NLC is a branch of Pizzo and Associates, an equally irresponsible and reckless company.(That is herbicide, in a dish soap bottle. This is not how one uses herbicides responsibly.)
Nice 2 mile loop.
Great walking trail!
This place is terrible you should all stay far far away
Beautiful spot for geocaching
Very nice forest preserve for a walk
Very peaceful place to go for a run
The birds and animal footprints
Really nice nature reserve and dog friendly. look forward to coming back, but be warned there is little shade if its hot out!
One of our pretty Forest Preserves of Lake County, nice views and photo opportunities. Great for walking your dog too!
Quiet walking trail
Beautiful wetlands preserve.
Nice quiet place to walk, ride bike, or horse
Took the 2.5 mile hike around with camera in hand. Didnt spot much wildlife today, but was still very peaceful.
Very nice park... not very busy which is awesome.
Secluded and beautiful. Always worth the stop. Has a restroom and bird watching areas. A lot of wild flowers.
Its a beautiful place for a walk!
Great views
It’s amazing how quickly this place has been restored.
Excellent layout and well maintained trails.
Peaceful, despite the background hum of traffic on the nearby Tri- State. Great spot for communing with nature.
Pretty nice
Beautiful place for a family walk. Just be sure its been dry, the paths get pretty mucky when wet.
Very nice. Clean trails. Could use more shade.
Very scenic and sprawling forest preserve. Not difficult in terms of elevation. However, trail is on the longer side with no cut through. So you need to be prepared to finish or turn around.
A great 2.2 mile trail to hike in any season. Plenty of wildlife around too.
Dont tell anyone else about this place, keep it to yourself
Small up and coming pretty forest preserve. Ponds, trails, and bridges, and pretty wild flowers when the weather is right.
Not shady (it is a savanna) but great view.
Excellent forest preserve
As Rainwater Pez for walking running and bird watching
