Beautiful garden and natural area in Ann Arbor. We took a very long walk along the lovely nature trails; through forests, by streams and lakes, really fun. It was a warm sunny fall day when we visited but there was plenty of shade along the trails. Impressive botanical garden inside too. Great place to spend a couple hours out in nature.

You can’t really go wrong here. In the winter soak up some green in the botanical garden, enjoy the cute gift shop and in the summer (or winter if your like me) enjoy the outdoor trails and soak up the native wild life. I’ve seen turkeys, deer, eastern blue bird, belted kingfisher—not to mention the incredible and diverse native plant species :-)

We came here because of the bonsai collection during Japanese week. It’s a hidden germ in AA. We like the glass houses with different climate sections and different trees, really impressed with the bonsai collection. I like the Children’s garden the most, really nice. A very nice nature area that also has a bonsai garden and an indoor terrarium tire place. The trails are really nice to walk through and also very relaxing. Its almost never busy and its very quiet. This is a nice place to take the family to observe nature and have a lower key outing. I personally love it.

A very nature-centered attraction but not the most scenic. Theres a couple pretty views, but the garden is mostly for people who know botany and go there to observe specific plants. (I am not one of these people).Additionally the indoor garden and arboretum is closed at the time i went so perhaps they are the main attraction i missed out on.

This is a great place with a wonderful desert biome. There are many species of cactus as well as some very beautiful flowers. The staff is very knowledgeable and after noticing a photo exhibit that they currently had I asked if they ever have exhibitions where they ask for submissions and was told that they do and that you do not need to be vetted you can be a normal person who has taken a great picture. I hope you enjoy a couple that I took the other day.

Absolutely beautiful place to visit. Anyone who enjoys nature should visit the Matthaei Botanical Gardens. My girlfriend and I frequent this place twice per month on average and it never gets old. Plus, they have many events throughout the year where they decorate the gardens, or sell different plants at great prices. As well, there is a cute gift shop!

A beautiful place to visit in busy Ann Arbor!! Unknown to us during our prior visits, it was recommended to us by a local resident who had visited it a couple of times before knowing I had enjoyed Hidden Lake Gardens tremendously!! We went on a warm afternoon and it was very nice and surprisingly uncrowded! We had almost the entire place to ourselves. The assortment of plants and flowers are beautiful, certain areas are a little rough due to the heat and dont hold up to the weather as well as other things. The indoor display areas were quite nice and lush. I was a little underwhelmed by the trails though, almost like they were an afterthought without much purpose, maybe in the future theyll be worked on a bit if they havent been since our visit. All in all I recommend it highly.

Do not bring your dog here. Apparently dogs are not permitted on any of the trails or gardens. I did not know this, as I assumed an outdoor exhibit probably didnt have restrictions on where dogs are allowed to go.That said, the trails were merely okay. Maybe for a few weeks in spring when all the flowers are blooming, or in the fall when the colors are out, the gardens are prettier to look at. But during my visit in July, I didnt see anything particularly noteworthy.

Always enjoy our time here. Would really love to see a sun sail or something in the childrens garden over the sandbox. The sun just beams on them when they play. It seems like a very easy addition. The Botanical Garden has a a couple of nature walks and natural gardens. Entry is free with inexpensive paid parking. Dont forget to donate. Three trails are marked, and there are maps along the paths and reference plaques. There are deer and wild turkey roaming the grounds, and the pond in front of the main building has an array of wildlife; muskrat, turtles and geese. The Botanical Gardens within the gated area are well maintained, very beautiful setup with lots of seating areas to take in the view and relax. Nice place for a day trip and a picnic lunch.

Magical, like stepping into an enchanted garden. Nature films are wonderful, but nothing can replace personal experience. My kids loved seeing chocolate, grapefruit, vanilla, and bananas growing on trees. My sons favorite was the living rocks. They also enjoyed the scavenger hunt provided by the museum. Little early in the season to see most of the outside flowers blooming, but was still real nice sitting on the rocking chairs out back & looking at the daffodils & listening to the nearby lazy fountains! This is one of the most amazing places in Metro Detroit. If you havent been here, set aside a few hours and go. You will LOVE it. I found out about it because my sons 5th grade class took a field trip here and when he got home he begged to go back. I figured it must be something special if a little boy is asking to return to a garden, lol! Anyways, when we went it was breath-taking. It is seriously so cool, theres no other way to explain it. You dont even have to love plants to be blown away by this place. And if you do love plants or gardening you will be so inspired! The pineapple plant was my favorite!
