A must see in Wilmington. A one of a kind experience. You will likely never see such beauty and multiple carnivorous plants. Such beauty and mystery. You will get photos like no other. Enjoy! Did not see even one at State Park. Here...thousands.

Wonderful, well-maintained park in the heart of Wilmington. Excellent signage explaining the habitat and each of the most common plants. The walk from the parking lot to the pocosin is short and paved, making for an easy walk. There were abundant pitcher plants and Venus flytraps easily visible from the paved pathway. There were also stepping stones that went closer to the habitat, but they were a little muddy, so we didn’t venture on many of them. Will certainly be back for another visit!

An incredible natural gift for the city of Wilmington. As a new resident, Im so thankful for Stanley Rehder and his work to preserve these plants which call our region home. I highly recommend visiting and maintaining respect for this great park/garden.

This was a suggestion from a local and such an amazing find! It was a short walk out to the field where you can find various types of carnivorous plants. I went in off season so the place was empty without other people. I took my time, walked the stone lined path, and captured plenty of photos.

Gem of as find! Free to visit. Small parking lot not marked well had to turn around. Directly behind to school. Fun facts on the trail. The plants are so interseting! Highly recommended as a spot to stretch the legs.

Fun little park to visit without getting too far off the beaten path. Free to see and offers a variety of examples of carnivorous plants. Easy to get to from all the beaches and Wilmington. Spend as little as 15 minutes or several hours to see some of nature’s coolest plants.

Small but a treasure! It was very hot but easily saw information and plants. Trail has concrete and then paving stones to walk on. I didnt realize Venus fly traps were so small, especially compared to the other ones!

This was truly wonderful. Been all over Wilmington looking for carnivorous plants with little luck but here they are numerous. Not maintained fully right now I assume due to Covid but still awesome. My family will definitely return.

The Venus flytraps can be hard to see at first because they are such a small plant, but once you realize what to look for, you can see just how many there are growing everywhere. The pitcher plants are much more obvious and varied. I enjoyed this quiet little park and all of the wonder there.

Fantastic little spot to allow you to see some carnivorous plants up close in their natural habitat. Came about a month after Hurricane Florence rolled through and while there was visible damage to the forest behind the plant garden but the garden itself was not littered with any debris. There were some smaller potted plant areas that allowed you to view some Venus flytraps without having to step in to the garden which may be muddy or crowded with lots of other plants. Theres also an observation deck off the side with seats which would be a nice spot to relax and grab some food while staring at the expansive garden space.

A lot more plants here than I expected to see. You wont need to walk far or look hard for pitcher plants and Venus-fly traps. There is a small gravel lot behind the school. From there just follow the walk way back and walk carefully among the plants.

This is really neat hole in the wall gem we may have never found if not for the magic of the internet! A perfectly easy path gets you to the garden itself and walking trail leads you right through the plants. The venus fly traps are much smaller in person than youd expect so be on the lookout. Some really neat signs with information about the different types of plants there.

This is a quick, free stop where you can view thousands of venus fly traps and pitcher plants growing in the wild. You can view pitcher plants nicely from the boardwalk and theres a few raised beds of venus fly traps. If you want to get the best view of venus fly traps, youll have to walk on a swampy path, so be mindful of your shoe selection.

My grandson was ecstatic seeing and exploring this unique little garden. At first we thought there were just a few plants in a cart on the boardwalk. We jumped off the boardwalk and followed the stone path and there were a lot more Venus flytraps growing and other beautiful plants.

The carnivorous plant garden is in the middle of town behind a school that is part of a nature preserve. Stanley Rehder, for whom the park is named, was a carnivorous plant enthusiast and cultivated a garden on this property. The city has taken it over and maintains it as a nature preserve. This is not going to be the highlight of a trip, but is a fun stop to walk out the easy concrete path to the boardwalk where signage instructs you on what plants are in the area and what their habitat and survival methods are. In order to see Venus Flytraps, you have to leave the boardwalk and go on the stepping stones (which may be covered in standing water) and look closely. There are thousands of them, and they are fascinating to see. Venus Flytraps only grow in this area of the world. Its a unique and fun visit for about an hour. We didnt have time to wander in the rest of the long leaf pine forest, but it seemed to be maintained as nicely.

This is a lovely little park, with well maintained boardwalk and viewing spots. When we visited in April there were lots of pitcher plants, but not any venus fly traps that we could spot. Although they did have displays setup which included them. This isnt somewhere that youll spend hours, but theres easy parking and a nice stroll to see unusual plants. Worth a visit.

Ive been fascinated with Venus Fly Traps & other carnivorous plants since I was a boy. As a native Ohioan, I was so excited to learn about the Stanley RehderCarnivorous Plant Garden that I had to go visit there. It is a well maintained park leading to the garden. The specimens are in a natural setting with informative plaques. Well worth checking out.

Even in February the sights were beautiful. We looked hard and found Venus Fly Traps wich are only native here. Some pitcher plants rose higher than our knees and others were low on the marshy ground . The pictures I could take were amazing and I totally think anyone who wants an exotic adventure should come here.
