My family loves this place. All the employees are super energetic and always super nice to my son and all his random questions. If you have young kids and live within 30 min I would suggest getting an annual family pass so you can stop by any time. We usually go 2 or 3 times a month for some fun after swim lessons.

We had a great experience with our big family. Yes, they are open during the pandemic but social distancing and masks are required. Our little ones had so much walking around and exploring. We purchased our tickets online so it made everything easy once we arrived to the location. I recommend this place. The place is clean and had clean bathrooms as well. There is a big parking lot and handicap parking spots, there place is also wheelchair accessible.

Unique place that lets you see bug type wildlife up close. Most specimens are in separate 3-ish foot enclosures that let you get just the right view. They change some of them (smaller enclosures) regularly, so it is worth coming back every other month or so. Also have a small ocean exhibit to highlight how some bugs are related to ocean life. You get to see coral, horseshoe crabs, starfish, and other critters. And then theres the butterfly room. A walk-through room with HUNDREDS of butterflies. All different species, sizes, and colors. This place is great for people and kids that arent freaked out by bugs. I HATE spiders, and I was even able to hold Rosie (smaller desert tarantula). Definitely worth the visit at least once, and even regularly for local folks.

Such a cool place! Butterflies fly all around you and they can land on you! They also have a butterfly hatching section which is fascinating; you can see pupae slowly hatching live since there are so many at such different stages. There’s also a cool fish section where you can touch horseshoe crabs and starfish! And a kids play area, of course, to get their energy out!

Amazing as always. Timed entry required but the place was very light on visitors (we went on Sunday at 3 pm). No touching Rosie the tarantula :( but understandable with COVID protocols. Can touch hissing cockroaches. Saw the largest moth in the world this time - Hercules adult moths do not have usable mouths and do not feed. they only live around 2-8 days, which is long enough for mating and egg-laying to take place. They can spend up to two years in the cocoon!!!Playground was closed - sad, but again understandable.Could touch sea stars. Also noticed few new tanks/acquariums with corals. Gift shop is open.It took us 45 min to get through, they give up to 80 min.I recommended you check out the paths behind the pavilion - there is pond with fish and various plants/flowers.

I love this place. And not just because I work here! The exhibits are great for children of a variety of ages. There are lots of programs to keep families engaged. We have Science and community programs for adults too! Everything from weekly yoga classes in our rainforest to photography workshops. Some things that we provide for our guest are a nursing station, eating area, daily programs and great costumer service. Here are pictures taken on 8/7/2019.

Our trip to the Butterfly Pavilion was on their $5 entry day. Our visit was an impromptu trip, but was well worth it. My 2yr old was free and it was only $10.30 for my 5 year old and myself. They have lots of bugs and spiders to see and its setup is friendly to little ones as well as bigger kids. You can hold a tarantula (Rosie) if youd like (assisted of course). The under sea section was nice, lots of nice fish and sea life to see and touch. Then there is the walkthrough rain forest with all the butterflies, which was very nice. They also have a very large kids playground area inside at the end next to the gift shop. It was really busy in the morning and thinned out around lunch.I would recommend this place for a visit.Parking is extremely limited so keep that in mind. You may have to park just north of Butterfly Pavilion in the shops located at the mall. Lastly I found it to be quite warm / hot throughout the entire visit, so dress accordingly.

Always a fun place to take the kids. Great exhibits including Rosie the tarantula, who the kids get to have crawl on their hands. There is an indoor play place that is good for kids up to about age 7 or so, and then a huge trail outdoors, along with tons of space to eat while looking at the great landscaping. The Butterfly pavilion is an invertebrate zoo. They are doing a great job of opening safely. They require social distancing, masks, and groups of up to 20 people with 20-30 min at each exhibit. They also have a great gift shop. They could really use support right now. I recommend you book a timed slot to go!

Visited the Butterfly Pavilion with confidence because masks were required and hand sanitizer was readily available throughout the exhibits. Also, the limited capacity made it easier to see all of the critters and prevented any crowds around top attractions like the the “touch and see” jellyfish tank. Time limits were long enough to enjoy everything without feeling rushed. Play close attention to your ticket time, you have to arrive within 15min for your ticket reservations to be honored. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly at all of the exhibits. Staff members at the butterfly pavilion happily pointed out exotic butterflies from all over the world. All of the spider, fish and bees are displayed well enough for little ones to take a good look! We also enjoyed the beautifully maintained walking trails and gazebos after our visit. Shades picnic tables are available however, the Beestro is currently closed due to covid precautions. We brought our own lunch and enjoyed between the pavilion and trails. We will be back and recommend a visit while the weather is nice enough to enjoy the trails and fall colors!

Review №32

This is my very honest review. I spent almost $500 in the gift shop, so that should tell you about how much I love butterflies. Im a recent first-generation college graduate from a low-income family that graduated from a top 21 university in the U.S.. I have a huge love and knowledge of all the hard sciences. Butterflies and moths are one of Gods most beautiful works of art. The butterflies and the lovely people in the gift shop and entrance save the place. However, there is one man that put a very sour taste in my mouth. I take very care when going to butterfly gardens to not touch the butterflies because I know the powder on their wings is very necessary to their survival and flight. However, when seeing a butterfly falling over on the ground, we informed a worker and he stated that they die in 2-4 weeks anyways and to just leave it there. Well thats fine. Later in that same visit, a beautiful blue morpho butterfly landed on me, but since our time was almost up, I was trying to gently coerce it off of me. Well I went up to the same worker and he used his walky talky to pry it off. As soon as I left the door, I saw him pick it up by its wings and throw it distastefully onto the concrete. This disheartens me because the butterflies are not dying gracefully. Instead, it looks like someone is torturing them or causing them to die faster. I might add that this reminds me of serial killers that first start with killing animals and then move onto people. I hope they can help correct this in their staff as these butterflies are live, innocent creatures. The good stuff about this place are the variety or butterflies, the wonderful picturesque area for chrysalis, and the very kind staff that seem very knowledgeable about the taxidermy they do in the gift shop. The butterflies they sell in the frames are more reasonably priced than other places and the quality looks great. I would recommend this place for the butterflies and the taxidermy. However, be aware that the staff might not care as much about the butterflies as you might.

Six stars! This is not a huge zoo, and not really in the typical sense with large outdoor animals. It is billed as an invertebrate zoo, so it focuses on insects but also has marine animals, too. But it really excels at providing meaningful kid experiences and our 3yo and 5yo really enjoyed it! Many of the terrariums have a kid-height platform so they can see the occupant up close. You can also hold Rosie the tarantula! The butterfly exhibit is obviously the biggest draw, and is really well done - not as large as Moody Gardens in Galveston, TX, but equally high-quality. Tons of opportunities to see large, colorful butterflies up close.

Most of the staff was kind and intelligent. Its a great place to take kids to teach them about butterflys, and the spider is awesome as well. Its a shame more places dont let you play with large arachnids. They are such awesome creatures. My only complaint is, there doesnt seem to be a system in place to actually handle the guests who have decided to take it upon themselves to ruin random butterflys lives for pictures or a laugh or sometimes just for sick cruel kicks. Its really really sickening to watch people harm such beautiful creatures so heartlessly. And there doesnt seem to be anything the sometimes clearly frustrated staff could really do about these grown ass adults being worse than I can explain acting a fool. It makes me sick honestly the amount of disrespect the staff puts up with every day. You guests that dont follow rules and dont respect other life seriously make me wish the staff could sue. If you want to PLAY with butterflies this IS NOT THE PLACE. If youre ready to explain to your kids that touching butterflies hurts them. And that you need to be sensitive and careful and considerate this is a wonderful place to show them the beauty of some of Earths smallest and most beautiful creatures.

This was such an interesting place! One of the only invertebrate zoos in the world. There was even a place where guests could hold a tarantula (with guidance from a staff member). Of course my favorite part was the tropical greenhouse type space where all the butterflies and moths are. There were so many types to see, and purchasing a butterfly guide for $1 on entry is worthwhile to help identify them. It is possible to get good photos (even with a decent phone camera) when the butterflies stop on a flower, just be sure not to touch them as it can shorten their lifespan. If possible, attend a butterfly encounter (happening at 12:30 and 3:30 when I was there). A very knowledgeable employee taught the crowd (which included lots of young children) about how butterflies and the rainforest are critical to our planet, introduced us to several types of butterflies before releasing them, and encouraged us to do our part to support conservation efforts. All around a good time, and worth stopping by if youre in the area.
