Stop number 3 on the museum tour of Tucson. The history of this location was interesting. most of the Civil War history in Arizona was brief and anti climactic. It was a good visit to see the historical building on site. The museum is small and quaint which was enjoyable when you visit huge museums. It only took a few minutes to walk through to see the history of the fort. They even had a bugle that you could play after sanitizing the mouthpiece. My reveille needs some work. LOL. The artifacts were informative along with the information about the Native American history.

Had to see where General Nelson Miles hung his hat during the Apache wars. General Crook met his match with the Apaches all over Arizona. After Geronimo surrendered to Gen. Crook, & went on a drinking binge & fled again with 35 other Apaches. Crook requested a transfer, wanted out. that was admirable for a General to do that, but iam sure it hurt like hell for him. To pass the torch when you know you cant catch a ghost.

This is a little museum. This is not a place you go to dispense circle hours. But if you want a quick brief history of the way military bases were in a past. This is the best place to do it. Others like this cost money. This ones actually free

My friend and our dogs very much enjoyed an impromptu drop in to the cute little museum theyve got. They do an excellent job with their 1000 tops square feet. Worth a 30-60 minute stroll anytime you find yourself at this park Thursdays through Saturdays. As a baseball lover, got a big kick out of the 19th century squads with Tucson adorned across their wool knit sweaters. How hot it mustve been standing in Centerfield as the desert heat beat down!

Very limited hours, Thurs-Sat. There is not much of the original fort left you can see. The museum is a recreation of the officers quarters, which is wooden and nicely done. There is stuff to play with. You can put on a period dress or a period cavalry uniform. I am hoping they will be able to refurbish the building across the street (formerly part of the fort) and add to the museum complex.

The fort and the park are wonderful! I took my kids there all the time. I still enjoy walking around especially in the spring when the baby ducklings hatch. Would have given 5 stars but the gopher holes have gotten so bad. Watch your step, ankles beware. Otherwise its a clean beautiful park with walking paths, playground equipment, tennis courts, wide open spaces and a museum where you can learn about some of Tucsons history.

Nice lil museum with expert (and super nice!) Docents. Only takes 30 minutes or so to explore unless you partake in any activities they have going on. Admission is free, though donating a few bucks will help them out! Well-behaved pets are also welcome.

Due to vandalism, access to the ruins is behind a fence, which is unfortunate. The associated museum is great and worth the trip by itself - and its free. The museum covers the history of more than just the old fort.

Building is not the original officers quarters from the mid 1860s. The present structure was built in 1963 it resembles the original built by the calvery in the mid 1860s. Ft. Lowell historical park was in operation from the mid 1860s until early 1890s to house the officers of the calvary. Not open daily, but very informative as to the history of the military outpost.

When I was a kid and growing up in Tucson, we would actually play in and on Ft Lowell. Of course, we did not destroy anything. We knew how important it was. UNLIKE, those MORONS who moved Boot Hill for a bloody road.
