A very well put together museum. Lots of information you can absorb and great dioramas/displays. We ran out of time on our visit, but we enjoy reading everything so that can take awhile. If you plan on visiting give yourself atleast 2 hours, and if youre like us plan on 3.5hrs.

Interesting museum of state history. We went while we were waiting on movie close by and this was a great way to kill time. I learned things about Kansas I didnt know and found it very interesting. I got upset (jk) when I saw these things that I grew up with as a kid in a museum .

This is a nice place to visit. You can see how the Kansas area has changed over the years. The items I was honored to see dated back a when the Indians lived in the area. To my heart brake it also showed how they were taken from being free to bring placed on reservations. This is always a difficult thing for me to think about. However the place is very clean, well kept and the people are friendly. This is a must see if you are going through Topeka. Just get off on the Watamaker exit go through the round about like you are going to Red Robin to eat. Go to the end of the road and you are there.

Museum is great. We were on our own for a tour, shortly before we left a small public school group who were being very good, yet the guide was yelling at them and talking VERY rudely to the kids. It was I acceptable. She has no business giving tours to kids if she is going to treat them so a a abusively. If I had been one of the adults in that group, she would have been told off right then and there. It was around 11:50 btw.

We shouldnt have to pay.it keeps a lot of families from enjoying the museum like the families that can pay to enjoy it. Besides the taxes that the state pulls in and the taxes that are giving to the Museum should be adiget. A lot of the artifacts are donated .

The Kansas City Museum opened in the 1980s and it looks and feels like it. Most of the exhibits are looking a little dated and the history timeline abruptly ends in the mid-1980s. However, there are many interesting exhibits including a newish one that profiles each of the states 105 counties with a unique story - some fascinating stuff. There are a number of significant artifacts including rail cars and an old steam engine. You get a good sense of the regions history including the turbulent times leading up to and including the Civil War. Plan on spending about 90 minutes or so here.

Great experience! Im not a fan of reading history, but seeing it takes me to my child days! This place had so much to see and was surprisingly a really nice museum. My only regret is that I didnt have more time to just lounge around the museum to see and read everything. This museum had tons of stuff from an actual train to canons to tepees and if you can imagine it, it is probably there. It is a great to take the family and learn about the history of Kansas! Excellent state museum! From the begining of our beloved state when different tribes of indians roamed the land right on thru the transformation into the modern period in this epic story of Kansas. The presentation was very well done. Walking thru can be daunting at times because you want to follow the timeline but yet not miss anything along the way. There are several places to sit down and catch your breathe, as well as reflect on what you seen so far! This museum deserves multiple visits throughout the year. The exhibits do change, and they are fascinating. Trying to take in the whole museum in one visit is just a fools folly...theres too much to learn and see to be able to do it it in one visit!

Visited the museum today with my 4th grader’s class and enjoyed it. Would like to revisit it when I don’t have 10 year olds to herd around. BEST part BY FAR was the Stach Schoolhouse. I absolutely loved observing the kids receive 90 minutes of 19th century curriculum. The teacher (wish I would have caught her name) did a wonderful job of transporting us all back to another era. It will certainly be memorable for kids and parents

Ive always grown up going to this museum and remember using the telephone lines and playing with them and always find something new every time I come here but the cost of admission pushes people away from this great place in Kansas history. Better Signage would draw more people in for sure if you were just driving by youd never know where it was.
