Taking Rt 9 thru this section is always a scenic treat. In all seasons, but be sure to check the tide chart for the area. Roads tend to flood..lol.In the last 2 yrs, the buildings supporting the area & teaching section seem to have fallen in disrepair. I can only assume its from the lack of federal funding. Still a beautiful area that I always look forward to driving thru. One of Delawares hidden gems.

This was a great a school field trip for a 5th graders. Other grades would love this too. Younger grades would need more chaperones for this type of field trip. My daughter and niece loved it. It was a 45min trip down to Smyrna, but they enjoyed the whole trip. Id like to thank the volunteers that took their time out to speak with us about Delaware Wildlife and how everything has an impact on its environment regardless how small the change, and how everything has its place in the surrounding ecosystem and beyond. So much was talked about and learned. They even had forms to complete like a scavenger hunt if you well. Everyone in my group was actually worked on it. Helps that I been around most of these kids since pre-school and kindergarten. The volunteers were wonderful and the kids enjoyed how each one put a person touch on what they were talking about, by touch on personal experiences in their past. It got them asking more questions and being more involved. Great spot I heard for outdoor groups as well. Looking forward to coming back some time soon either just for a walk or the next 5th grade field trip for my youngest daughter next year.

My son had a blast here. There is a large parking area with two small ponds. One of the ponds has a floating pier which is actually pretty large. For a child, its perfect! Every single time he put the hook and worm in the water he caught something! He was beyond excited! We went in the morning, middle of the day and at night. Every time same results. Every time we were there NO ONE was there which was also great. Having that time with just the two of us and him catching all those fish (bass, crappie, bluegill) was great. The area is also very clean. From the looks of it the place looks much bigger and there are other areas for you to investigate but we only used the floating pier.

I love this place, but... You either love the smell of saltwater marshes or you hate it and if you cant hack the smell you will struggle here, esp with the cell service fluctuating so badly as it does...leave this place to the sportsmen if you dont have better reason to be there than hunting

Woodland Beach . . , I really dont get it. I understand years ago it used to be a very popular place to go kind of run-down houses there. They look seasonable but I think some stay year-round. My wife and I in the summertime will take a drive down there walk along the beach. At times its a little dirty . . . . broken glass from the people go down there at night and drink. Very sad. If the community got together and fixed it up ( some have and are ) and patrolled the idiots that leave all their garbage on the fishing pier it can be a really nice place to go. I have been there and caught a lot of fish off the pier when the Croakers and stripers are running. A lot of people go there during the summer to take a dip or let their kids swim. If you go there to swim or walk along the beach, you better have your sneakers on. Its a beautiful area if you can get past all the litter. They do patrolling but unfortunately cant keep up. Dont let it stop you from going - beautiful sunsets and a good close place to go and find shells or just go for a walk.
