Opening night of The Rivals. Just before the performance is about to start, I overhear the director, George Mount, saying, Thats kind of my job: to take these dumb, old plays and make them into something fun... I am really saddened by this statement and hope it does not reflect the mission and values of Seattle Shakespeare.

My partner and I are season subscribers, and since we started being season subscribers Ive actually got him turned on to this company. Its just a fun and fabulous experience every time. They acting troupe is inventive and creative and even though they have a very bare stage that they work with, the acting is so terrific one doesnt care. Do brush up on your Shakespeare and because this is a good way to do it.

Always professional performances that are fun to see. Even in Old English style, the live show gives your so much emotion and action, it adds a depth to the literature to make it an enjoyable experience. I have been enjoying them for over ten years.

They always do a phenomenal job with everything they perform. They also sponsor a lot of great programs for kids and families, such as Camp Bill (summer theater camp for kids) and Wooden O (Free plays in the park over the summer). I wont say Ive enjoyed every play Ive ever attended, because not everyone loves every play. And yet, even the ones I didnt particularly love had stellar performances.

Stellar acting. Ive never seen a bad show there. When doing Shakespeare its tough enough to get the words right. These actors n actresses are way beyond that phase. They imbue their characters with depth and subtlety while speaking Elizabethan english. They also do a couple non Shakespeare plays a season. Several of these rank as the best theater Ive seen.

This presentation of She Stoops to Conquer is amazing and hilarious. Seattle Shakespeare Theatre consistently does a great job. Some plays I just dont want to see, I mean, Macbeth is about a couple who kill their best friends and then slowly go insane with the guilt. Aarrgg! But thats Macbeth! The comedies are usually marvelous and the histories are informative. The non- Shakespeare plays are carefully chosen and executed, too. Ticket prices are very affordable, and the theater is small so you feel very much a part of the play.

I recently went to see The Government Inspector. I have rarely seen such a production with such amazing comedic timingAbsolutely hilarious,! I fear that I brayed like a donkey from beginning to end. There was literally not a dull moment. It was an amazing experience, and the pure genius of the actors was astonishing. Added unexpected bonus: a couple of dance scenes. Bravo to the choreographerAll in all, a show not to be missed

The building itself feels like a high school, but the performances are professional and the seats have more legroom than McCaw Hall.

We saw an excellent performance of Alls Well That Ends Well. The seats are comfortable, and it appears that all seats have a good view of the stage.

I love the company, Ive seen several shows and they have all been an excellent combination of casting, directing, acting, and set design. Well worth the money even if you arent super familiar with Shakespeare.

I think Seattle Shakespeare does extraordinary productions. Loved the all female version of the Henry VI plays. For sure, this is not Arden or Oxford rendering of text, but the evocation of meaning and relevance while retaining Shakespeare language of selected lines. (Another like example,:Benedict Cumberbatch in National Theatre evocation of Hamlet. Brilliant, but much is cut, lines originally for one character are given to another, etc.) Lets let Shakespeare live!

Classic, timeless plays, true to the story but with their relevance to the present often made more apparent through the casting and stagecraft. Tremendous outreach program to schools and remote communities too. Theyve outperformed professional Shakespeare companies weve seen in London.

Horrible experience with my children who are reading Shakespeare as part of their classical education. They were exposed to a trashy, poor quality, political statement rather than Shakespeare, at what is proclaimed as Seattles Classical Theatre. Wish I could leave 0 stars.
