Im a frequent patron of Grims and I normally recommend Grims to all of my friends in Seattle and all of those who come to visit because its usually a great time with great music. However, tonight (March 9-10) I was severely disappointed by the DJ, who played unpopular songs that were not fun to dance to at all. I dont know his name but he has convinced me to think twice when visiting Grims on a weekend. If Grims does not reconsider hiring him  they will have lost a consistent Grims patron.

Went in for lunch with a group of 9, the place was empty other than us, so the server was very accommodating. Our group got our drinks promptly and we were happy with the little wait for out food. I ordered the BLT and it was solid. The server offered me a drink for my wait because mine came out last, but I was fine with water. Good experience overall.Food- Decor- Service- Price-

Review №14

Drinks came in a small Mason jar glass and costs about $10 each. Nice vibe. The DJ played 90s and 00s hip hop and RnB music. There was also a dance club upstairs that was decent. It bothered me that the floors didnt feel safe (it seemed to be moving up and down when people were dancing) and that it got ridiculously hot in there. There was definitely a long line formed outside the club.

Stairs are a little scary in the dark, but they have christmas lights! music is ok, they play a lot of remixes. come at at least 1030 for a more lit dance floor.

Thieves. The reviews are rife with stories about the bartenders and bouncers stealing money and pocketing change. I will never go back.I wasnt sure how true those stories wear until last Saturday. My girlfriend had a couple unopened shots in her purse. Bouncer held them for safe keeping and wouldnt allow them in. No problem at the time. After leaving the bar, he refused to return them and said he was confiscating it per his policy. Im an attorney, so I knew that was suspicious. So I told him he had no authority under the law to do that, and he didnt warn us either before entered. He told me to screw off and I decided Im never going back. Generally rude staff, dont waste your time or money here.

Review №22

They artificially keep the line long so that they can charge others to bypass the line. I understand all bars do it but everyone in line could see inside that it wasnt very busy. No cover for the first floor but $10 for the dance floor on the third level (this was a Saturday). The dance floor doesnt feel safe and you can feel it buckling to the music.

Mo
Review №24

Grimms is great because you can get food and drinks below, host a private party in the middle, and dance on the top floor. The music on the third floor has been excellent all 3 times Ive been here. They play a good variety including random throw backs, top 40 songs, R&B, Pop, and a few techno songs thrown in. The age group for the dance area seems like its mostly people between 21-30ish. This is definitely one of my favorite places to go dancing in Seattle. Its a small area, so it typically feels/gets packed.

Ha
Review №25

Grims is the place to be if you are looking to get a little wild and let loose. Downstairs is a more formal bar area with tables and drinks. Upstairs typically requires a cover of $10 and is where the DJ and dancing is located. This can get really packed and is guaranteed to give you a night to remember.

Bartenders were new at their job, but were willing to help with some missing pool balls. The lighting was dark and i rocked out to some ACDC and led zepplin but the music kept shifting, as if shuffle play was on.Please put some chalk near the pool table and Ill change my rating next time i come on!

Very snooty rules here. They wouldnt take $5 in quarters for cover up to the dance floor. .one is money. Why are they being so picky about the form in which people pay. Dont go here. Its ridiculous pricing and rediculous rules in regard to payment. I know that upper management make the rules, so its not the employees fault, but still very rediculous.

Grims is a lively bar with great music and fun DJs. The drinks are always delicious (but sometimes pricey) and the upstairs dance floor - The Woods - plays the best music. The only qualm I have is that the line to actually get in is INSANE. Sometimes you can wait up to an hour outside and then another 45 minutes inside. Plus they ONLY TAKE CASH for their cover. A little out of date in my opinion but they can do what works best for them.

Happy hours are Wed - Fri 4-7pm and Sat 6-7pm. Lots of great options, e.g. $5 for a grilled cheese and some of the best tomato soup ever (its lighter than a bisque but the cook said he used all kinds of veggies), a Moscow mule, a glass of rose, etc.

HORRIBLE place and HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Asked the bartender to charge half in cash and half in a card and she very rudely asked me that if she was going to get tip if she did that? I’m normally a very good tipper since I used to be a waiter long time ago and I know it’s a hard job but her attitude about this was NOT OK. She then proceeded to charge $17 in my card and said that the rest was on the cash (we are talking around almost $60 in cash ok?!... ) I said no to her and asked her again to re-do the charges because I didn’t agree to this. She then said that she didn’t know how to do it and that’s when I asked for the manager and told her to get her manager to help. Then she said that they did t have a manager! Are you serious?!? The place was packed! So I proceeded to ask again for the manager and then she charged my card with almost $40 more. And wanted to provide $2 back in difference to my friend who by the way was a tourist, visiting Seattle for one night.Because I kept asking for the manager she proceeded to have me kicked out of the place. For all of you tourists or non tourist- be aware that this place and specifically this POS of a bartender is taking advantage of people who don’t know their math and don’t pay attention to how they charge. I got told that I was banned from the place forever, which btw I would have never gone back, so they actually did me a favor.I wish I could give them 0 stars but that’s not an option in Yelp. Oh well. Hope this place gets the Karma that they deserve.

The bar itself is not bad despite charging the same amount for a smaller sized beer (probably because its served in a mason jar and thats cool these days apparently)But my real problem is they charged me for two beers when I had one, then some staff member tipped themselves a generous 20%, then lost my credit card.Never going back.

Review №47

Ive been waiting a long time to write a proper review for Grims, because in my bar-going experience this place truly stands out as one of the greats; even amongst the other strong contenders in Capitol Hill.My second weekend ever living in the city, I came to Grims for dinner early on a rainy winter evening because we had heard how good their grilled cheese sandwiches were. They did not disappoint! We had finished our sandwiches and a couple of drinks, when we noticed they were just opening an upstairs area. All of us were in explore mode so we decided to scope out the upstairs, otherwise known as The Butterfly Lounge. Little did I know I would be hosting my birthday party there just eight months later. The walls in this lounge are lined with butterflies set in backlit mason jars perched on inset alcoves, the walls and floor are black, and the ceiling is a golden tin stamped with an intriguing pattern. Its laid out long and narrow, with reclaimed pillows and tables lining the walls. At the other end of the benches is the bar, where Caleb makes the BEST drinks. Seriously. Best. Bartender. EVER. He has lined the walls of his bar (he is the only bartender that works the lounge, its only open Thursday - Saturday nights) with all kinds of crazy bitters. He makes great drinks like a Blood & Sand or a Moscow Mule, but he is the kind of bartender who loves a challenge. Tell him what you like in a drink (a type of booze, a flavor profile, a fruit, etc), and he will make you something that is one-of-a-kind and truly exceptional. I brag about his skills to all of my friends until they finally come with me to visit the lounge, and every single one has sang his praises back to me. I get kinda smug about it, because I know he rocks! My birthday party (about 60 guests) went off without a hitch, and I cant imagine a better guy to have behind the bar. One of my most memorable birthdays, no doubt. We had the lounge reserved from 7-10, and we got to play music from my iPod the whole time. The food was incredible, I had the short ribs but tried everything from the chicken to the mac and cheese (benefit of being the birthday boy). Bonus if you rent out the lounge: you and your guests get to go upstairs to The Woods (dance club) for a lump sum of $150! Normally $5/person.The Woods on my birthday was a great time! Timing was a key factor here, we rented The Butterfly Lounge from 7-10 and The Woods opened at 10, so for a while it was just my friends up on the dance floor... felt like a VIP!All in all, this place is fantastic and you can truly spend an entire evening under one roof and have three entirely separate but equally awesome experiences. Every time I come to any one of the three venues hosted under the Grims name, its always great. Strongly recommend!

Strange and crowded place. Drinks were okay. Decor is strange as I will never understand animal heads on the wall. Fairly crowded with the doucheyest Cap Hill has to offer and then there is a billiards table taking up half of the floor that makes traffic flow and enjoying your drink impossible.
