Love this little theater! What a gem. Less than 2,000 seats so it feels more personal. You can see the stage easily and it feels like youre having an intimate chat with a friend. The pages were very helpful and everything was well organized and clean. My only complaint is the chairs are very small, very old and very hard. Plan accordingly, but dont let that stop you. Youll love it!

Great space for seeing a show. Acoustics are phenomenal! The all gender restrooms were an interesting (not in a bad way) experience.

A great place to see that artist, writer or politician that you want to know more about. Pricing is very reasonable, and so many great seats in the house. Highly suggest that you become a member of city arts and lecture, so you have first dibs on buying tickets.

Great venue to see a show or talk. Even far back in the balcony, the sight lines are pretty great. Also, typically great programming. Downside: no theater bar & no ADA access to the upstairs.Fun fact: used to be the Nourse Theater, renamed for the woman who championed City Arts & Lectures!

Lovely older theater. Good views from most seats. Good acoustics. Handicap accessible w/ seating in orchestra section. Climate control could be better. Location near Civic center, BART/MUNI locations nearby.

Sit in a back seat. View was good given the distance. But the audio wasnt clear. Parking at the performance center garage was expensive as they charged a flat $20 for the event, which was only an hour for us. Itd be more reasonable to charge by time.

Got to see the San Francisco Gay Mens Chorus here for their Ring in the Holigays show, and it was a joy. The theater is large enough to accommodate a decent sized audience whole still feeling intimate, and the location is easy to reach by public transit. There are parking lots close by if youre coming in a big enough group to make it worthwhile, and there are a lot of options nearby for a meal before a show.As for @SFGMC they are amazing and well worth seeing. Family consensus is this will be the new holiday tradition to replace seeing the nutcracker.

Beautiful theater restored by Sydney Goldstein for use by City Arts and Lectures. The speakers are always interesting. The only minus is that the stall doors in the unisex bathroom dont show if its occupied so you have to bend down and look under the door to find the empty ones.

This is a great venue for events of all kinds. If youre upstairs, however, it helps to bring a seat cushion as the seats can be a little uncomfortable. Otherwise, good acoustics everywhere, even the very back of the theatre.

Second row, seat 77 for Ear Hustle. It was a truly amazing experience. Its the best theatre experience I ever had. The night was epic! I was serving row, I could feel the spit as they recalled great stories. After it was over, I looked up to the balcony to see a friend that had bragged about getting seats from his friend, Earlonne Woods. I guess it really is who you know that runs the theater.

A gem of a theatre. They don’t make them like this anymore. Definitely Uber or Lyft to the Nourse and be ready to jump out and walk because the area of Hayes and Franklin is pretty much always busy.Visually almost every seat is good, but acoustically it can be a bit hard to hear. Great facilities. Cell phone reception is a challenge, so if you’re having trouble getting your Uber walk a block away, probably to Hayes and Octavia to get a ride.Other than those minor issues, it’s an amazing place.

Nice theater in Hayes Valley for all kinds of shows - comedy, talks, etc. Orchestra/Loge/Balcony seating. Bathroom capacity is somewhat limited. Multiple entrances (one direct to balcony) helps crowd control / flow. Lots of good bars and restaurants nearby in Hayes Valley for before and after the show!

Review №71

Great performance by the SF Gay mens choir. Unfortunately the venue leaves a lot to be desired. It was an old high school from the 1930s (?) And they have very limited bathrooms both for men and women. Also the seats are super uncomfortable and cramped (if youre a taller person). The balcony also cuts off the front part of the stage so you miss anything going on in front. To sum up Choir was great, venue needs a massive overhaul.

Major points for a staff that was both diligent and pleasant. The floor seats are average sized but nice, though from what Ive read the loge and balcony seats are very small. The building itself feels historical and old, but not run down. I was impressed by the calendar of events and suspect Ill be back one of these days.
