This should be known as the Museum of Taxidermy. If youre against hunting all kinds of game critters, this is not the place for you. Otherwise there are some mildly interesting and fun exhibits, strange and odd critters (and some fake) that have been visited by the taxidermist, a really cool old timey bar and a gift shop. I think its worth a visit once but I dont think Id go back for more.

The Buckhorn, which is upstairs, is the first part of the museum you walk through which includes the American Sideshow. Many of the animals are set up in what looks like the type of environment they live in. Different parts of the room trigger audio descriptions of what is displayed. The Texas Rangers part is downstairs and the second part you walk through. Theres tons of information to read about the items and photos displayed. After the display cases comes a space which seems to take you back in time to the early 1900s including Bonnie and Clyde, San Antonio Express News, Saloon, Black Smith and more.

This was a unique experience. You shouldnt go through the museum if youre in a rush. We had plenty of time during the COVID July 4th weekend and it was a nice cool activity. If you dont have allot of time just go in and eat you can see a bunch of animals free.

Best old westerner themed Museum and Saloon all in one place! Plenty of stuffed animals to satisfy your appetite. Even the customer service rep selling us tickets had the older Western Cowboy look similar to Clint Eastwood when he played the spaghetti Western movies. A must stop while you are in San Antonio. You wouldnt know its in the heart of the city until you realize the city was build around the Buckhorn Saloon!

This place was so awesome! Me and my father are from Dallas and went to San Antonio for the weekend to enjoy some time together as he has open heart surgery coming up. We both love history in love museums, the cool thing about this specific place is that its not only a game Museum of different animals from all around the world, but its also Texas Rangers Museum ( and not the baseball team but the state police force) so they have everything from awesome mounts of game around the world, to freak animals that were born with two heads and there was even a goat that was born with one eye ( a cyclops). Its funny that the woman who was the manager at the hotel we stayed at was a little bit younger then I am, I am in my early 30s and she seemed to be in her early to mid-20s, when we asked what good museums to visit she specifically said that this one wasnt a good one and we probably wouldnt enjoy it... Boy was she wrong! For anyone who loves history, especially Texas history this is a super cool place to go, you will see things that youve never seen it will probably never see again in your life. And the coolest part is its all located inside of the oldest Saloon in Texas which is 130 years old! I cant tell you enough how awesome this place truly is, I would recommend it to a single person, a couple, a family or even a group visiting town for a work trip looking for something to do! Dont miss out on this awesome place and adventure, they even have a restaurant and a bar so if youre hungry or thirsty before you take the tour, you can grab yourself something to eat and after you finish if you have a drink they allow you to carry it around with you in the Museum. So whether you grab something to eat before or after your visit to the museum, there is some great food and I recommend you grab a bite to eat and try it out! Five stars easily, all the way!

Three stars for the food and five for the museum.Food: The food was fine. I ordered the Buckhorn burger and it was extremely hard to eat and just ok, even though it was essentially all the toppings I get on a burger anywhere. One of the people in my group got no lettuce, tomato or pickles on his burger. All the employees were extremely friendly though and the interior was very cool with the huge room full of taxidermy.Museum: really cool and better than I thought it would be. I almost decided against going through but Im glad I did. Lots of cool taxidermy like deformed antlers on deer and a huge section dedicated to fish taxidermy. Theres a little makeshift town in the museum thats really cute and a fun time waster and a section dedicated to the circus sideshow. Lots of penny machines and old love testers littered throughout the museum, so bring change if youre into that (I am).

We love this place. This time we just came to eat at their diner (which was pretty good, especially the price), but we would highly recommend going on the tour. It is about $20 per person, but if you love animals, hunting, the outdoors, or just amazing taxidermy, you will not be disappointed!

So, this is certainly a major Texas style tourist trap but its fun to go to and take your friends that are visiting San Antonio. The first floor contains a good cafe restaurant and a gift shop. The museum is on the second floor. The food was good and we had fun eating in an old fashioned saloon with heads of animals hung all over the walls. It is definitely a site to see and yes they are all real. This place is a Mecca for taxidermy where will find championship trophies and strange animals. The gift shop is very touristy and lots of items for the kids. The museum is really cool and see a bunch of Wild West artifacts and more unique taxidermy items.

Stopped here for lunch and to check out the museum. It was a neat experience. Lunch was just ok with a small menu and average quality of food. Prices a little high for the quality but is to be expected at a tourist stop. After lunch we walked through the museum and it was pretty interesting. There are a lot cool animals to see but use caution if you have little ones because our 2 year old was afraid of some of the exhibits.

This place was a lot of fun! Cheaper than the Ripleys Museum and a lot of interesting animals to see plus 10% off food with a ticket purchase. Most of the staff were friendly, the greeter was really welcoming but the cashier at the food counter seemed like she was ready to go home. The food was tasty but if you are ordering tap water youve gotta get it from the bar for some reason. A historical spot and a fun place to visit.

I came for the museum and was disappointed. I guess I thought it would be a museum about a saloon. Its not. Its $20 + to see a bunch of taxidermed animals (mostly hunting trophies). Nice displays and all, but not what I would have expected. I would suggest just going to the bar and looking at the stuffed animals around. That look costs nothing. $20 will just get you more of the same.

A very interesting space. The saloon is just that, but only open for lunch. The paid entrance fee is for the saloon museum, large taxidermy collection of animals from all over the world, and a Texas Ranger museum. The saloon is a great place to grab a beer. It has an intentionally hokey, old west ambiance and lots of old fashioned carnival games.Museum was lots of fun, though it would have been nice to have more explanation in the Texas Rangers exhibit. Absolutely amazing place. If you love Texas history then youll love this place. Its two museums in one: the Buckhorn Saloon, which has plenty of animals and other historical exhibits to see, and the Texas Ranger museum, which showcases the history of the Texas Rangers with plenty of interesting artifacts and information. Tickets are reasonably priced, especially if you can find a coupon in one of the San Antonio travel brochures. Once you get your ticket you can go in and out as you please, as long as you keep your receipt. With your ticket you also get 10% off a meal at the restaurant in the museum. Food was mediocre to average. We were quickly served and then asked once by a roaming gentleman about fifteen minutes later if everything was good. For the price not worth it. Wouldve liked them to actually put time into my food instead of getting it out as fast. Everyones burger had a small portion of sauce (just a spot or two on the bun that we tried to spread), the pickles stacked all on top of one another instead of spread out, and the fries were lukewarm. If you want to see the place for the atmosphere just order a beer at the bar.

Much of the museum (the upstairs part) is mounted animal heads which I did not really care for. I would rather see those animals alive than killed for a dusty trophy.
