Large galleries with a variety of art and sculptures. There is an exceptional art glass exhibit which I personally found stunning. Yes you can take pictures but make sure your flash is OFF! Most of the staff are friendly but beware of pointing too closely at the artwork or you may get barked at! Overall it was well worth my twenty bucks and the small gift shop had some witty and fun items!

This is certainly a Texas treasure....and should be known nationally. Amazing facility, a Spanish Colonial mansion at the top of the genre. The contemporary additions stand in a wonderful opposition to the old. Love it. The art collection is familiar yet filled with the little surprise. This is a must see.

This museum is captivating. I loved how I felt like I wasnt sure what I was going to be seeing next. Every turn brought surprises and beauty. There were various pieces of art on display, but the architecture of the building is also a sight to behold. I spent an hour or so sketching in the garden area - it was very peaceful and beautiful. The staff was super helpful and friendly, asking for direct feedback and discussing different pieces with me. I will definitely visit here again, especially for the Tim Burton exhibit in Fall 2020!

My high school daughter was thrilled to find out that San Antonio and the McNay Museum was the home of Delfina Flores, Diego Riveras sweetest masterpiece. We saw on the McNay website that an entire room/wing is dedicated to Delfina. Although during Covid-19, my daughter begged for us to go same day and off we went. We found the Delfina Flores room and she was not there! We asked where she was and a helpful docent walky-talkied the manager for us who instructed her to direct what was now a group of 7 disappointed visitors all the way back to the entrance and ask for her. We were hopeful this manager would direct us to Delfina in a special wing and were willing to pay any extra cost. Instead, a very unkind, arrogant woman informed us all that Delfina Flores was put away, she didnt know when she would be put on display again, and that it was not her decision. She haughtily told each group this. She liked making it sound like decisions were up to her. Maybe she should decide to not waste visitors time and just have the docents break the bad news so we dont have to waste a Sunday with my daughter being sneered at and told off by a miserable, unprofessional manager. Wish we could get our $30 back! Wish they would notify visitors on their website. Wish they would get a better manager.

The McNay is a delightful local art museum with a choice of great artifacts from all kinds of heritages and eras but still somehow quite coherent. The building is also attractive in itself. Loved the sign Please do not pet the sculpture - almost a work of art in itself. A great place to spend some time in San Antonio.

Nice architecture and I also love that with most pics and statues they have a special number to call where an narrator will tell you all about the display!. My favorite local museum...the others are great but the warmth and charm of this classic institution is forever alluring... This was once someones home... Built in the 1920s by artist and educator Marion Koogler McNay, the Spanish Colonial Revival residence became the site of Texas’s first museum of modern art when it opened in 1954....Later adding a modern addition...Overall housing works by masters including Gauguin, Van Gogh, Hopper (my favorite), Mitchell, Neel, O’Keeffe, Picasso, Pollock, and Renoir to name a few. The 23 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds include sculptures by Indiana, Jiménez, Rickey, Shapiro, and Smith....make a day of it to spend some quality time soaking in the magic and beauty of art!

Had such a pleasant Sunday strolling through this museum. It was a free Sunday, paid $10 bucks to see the Andy Warhol: Portraits exhibition. Original fees are 20 bucks for adults, 19 and under are free! The idea of strolling though this beautiful historic mansion AND enjoying master art is a must for those that need a break from life...or a little inspiration. I sat outside in the patio for a while, then by the fountain in a little wooden pergola and left as a 5pm wedding was about to begin. (They close at 5 on Sundays.) Parking was pretty easy(and free) although I can see how it can maybe get packed...and it was a bit difficult to find..(well, not really, its on New Braunfels St., but there really isnt a sign on that street telling you where the entrance is. I missed it and had to go back around. I found it that second time.). There is a cafe inside....but I didnt check it out. There are plenty of eateries around though... Cant wait to go back.

Came here for my girlfriends birthday, we both enjoyed the visit. I truly have no appreciation for the more recent works of “art” they had exhibited there, but the museum/location itself is a beautiful place. The courtyard is very well kept, with lots of details to observe. The exterior grounds are also a nice place to stroll around, and take it all in. They asked us if we were students (we both are) and gave us the discount without showing ID’s, and that brought the total down to $30 for our admission; so that was nice. The staff does kinda hover around, I assume to make sure you don’t touch anything. They just do it in such an uncomfortable way, like passive aggressive night club bouncers- just some smiles would’ve made all the difference. An older lady with dyed red hair on the second floor, said hello as we walked by, then proceeded to give a short history of the sculpture my sweetheart was admiring; that was great.

Went specifically to see the Transamerica/n exhibit on the free general admissions night, which meant our tickets were only $10 each for the highlighted exhibits. The exhibit was incredibly inclusive and exactly what I had been hoping for, with the infeasible Nicki Lucio doing live performance self portrait art. She spoke to us for a good amount of time about herself, her work and her experiences and it was by far one of the most valuable experiences of my life so far. I would suggest the McNay definitely take advantage of any other artist interested in doing performance art or live painting as a part of their pieces.
