This museum is wonderful. Have family in town and wanted to get them out to see the San Antonio sites but also have been very good and staying home this year due to Covid. With that being said this is a wonderful place to go to stay safe during this crazy time. We went on a Tuesday around 1 pm (San Antonio residents are free starting at 4p) and there was no one there and so, so much to see.Currently exhibiting Greek, Roman and Egyptian art as well as a the “Exquisite Adornment - Turkmen and Miao jewelry” which let me tell you is impressive. There is even work by Kehinde Wiley. Was so captivated by some of the work I purchased a print in the gift shop. Again, will definitely be returning.

I didnt think I would enjoy this place as much as I did. If youre in San Antonio, and have nothing better to do, you should consider coming here. I was impressed with their collection of Egyptian and Asian artifacts. I spent 2.5 hours there which is quite a bit of time for a museum in a small town. Parking is free in the lot across the street, if youre visiting the museum ($10 if youre not visiting the museum). If you get cold easily you should bring a sweater because their A/C works very well. You can bring your water bottle in as long as you keep it in the purse. The restroom closest to the entrance (past the gift shop to the left), offers free sanitary napkins and tampons in the womens restroom.

Ok so over all this is a good place and I went many many many times. So that leads to why it’s only 4 stars to me. It seems like they rarely had anything new to see. It’s great for a mid size city but for one the size of San Antonio, it should be more. And that’s not the fault of the museum, it’s just not the kind of town that cares.

I went a year ago, and comeback again last week. Management is valuable, attention, reception is good. Galleries are beautiful and the best, is that this museum is not reduced to the fancy European art, they include Asian, Aegyptian, Mesopotamian, Greek and Roman galleries, and also Latin American. It is crazy to have many aesthetic-cultural contributions from many times and spaces in one single place.

I was fortunate enough to go during the 500 Years of Spain exhibit and it was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. The paintings displayed were extraordinary. And the regular collection is impressive. I love the variety of paintings and artifacts that can be seen in this 8 level museum. Technically its four levels but there are two wings so 8 feels truer. On the Japan floor is one of my favorite pieces, a vase with cranes, the intricacies and craftsmanship are quite remarkable. Honestly, there are too many pieces that spoke to me and really stood out. I havent been to all of San Antonios museums yet but so far this one is my favorite.

This museum is okay but after going to museums in large cities this museum is kind of sad. I really wish it had more impressive art pieces and less art leftovers. San Antonio is a large city and should have a better museum. The superhero exhibit really couldve used actual art from comics, some figure drawings and concept art. Disappointed

I like that this museum always seems to be in a state of transition. They appear to always be working on the next art installation. Bonus round fun that Sundays from 10 to Noon and you get in free! FREE! Free and art are the two best words in the human language (except, of course for words Free beer) Anyway, on one side they have amazing Egyptian, Roman, Greek, Chinese, Japanese and Pacific Islander art. The other side features Texas art and modern art. I love the reuse of the historic building, the cool glass elevators and the all around vibe of the collection.

I wish that I had been able to spend more time here. The exhibits were very relevant to my interests. There was a special exhibit that I was interested to see, but when I got there, it was a much more limited exhibition than I expected. The San Antonio Museum of Art is nicely located in a repurposed industrial facility (the Lone Star Brewing Company) along the famous Riverwalk. The collection here is not something I expected of San Antonio. The marble statues are like something you find in larger and more prestigious museums and you can walk right up to them displaying a high level of trust towards the community. You can find sarcaphogi and absolutely exquisite paintings. Its a medium size for a museum and usually not very full. It was a low price considering the quality of the art. There were great examples of Mexican and Catholic art.

This place is hard to navigate if you know what exhibit you want to find but if youre just ambling around, its great. Each exhibit gets its not own nook or cranny of the museum and each new one you encounter can feel very different from the last. The museum is always a great experience for the whole family. I took the family on a Sunday morning because theres free general admission as well as on Thursdays. We paid to go see the Spain exhibit and it was amazing. Beautiful pieces and it wasnt too crowded when we got there. It did fill up quickly though. After an hour I sent my kids off to explore the museum and find something they liked there. What fun is an art museum if there isnt a bit of adventure involved? We spent at least 3-4 hours exploring the museum. There are some pieces being installed so there were certain floors and areas closed off. I cant wait to see the new exhibits.

First impressions are everything! Although the exhibits are amazing and educational we felt rushed throughout our visit. Security was constantly hovering over us. My family was visiting from out of state and I was completely embarrassed that they left with that impression of San Antonio. Compared to other museums in both larger and smaller cities, this made for a less than satisfying visit. I would highly encourage anyone to go on Tuesdays when admission is free, rather than being disappointed paying full price and not having the availability to freely enjoy the artifacts at your leisure, not to mention being treated so horribly. Truly disappointing!

This place has so much art its crazy.art museum or art gallery is a building or space for the exhibition of art, usually visual art. Museums can be public or private, but what distinguishes a museum is the ownership of a collection. Paintings are the most commonly displayed art objects; however, sculptures, decorative arts, furniture, textiles, costumes, drawings, pastels, watercolors, collages, prints, artists books, photographs, and installation art are also regularly shown. Art is part of out history and artists are everywhere. You can find them here or there or anywhere. In a tree or on the creek. In a bus or on a truck. They can be big or small or in a mall. Thin or fluffy. Tan or scruffy. The can truly be, here or there. They can be anywhere.
