This was a really lovely museum. We had a guest in town and wanted to take them to a museum with a local feel to it, and this really nailed it. The exhibition is not too large, so you can easily see every piece without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. The staff was very helpful and informative. The gift shop also had a lovely selection of relevant books and other items. I would highly recommend! Next time we will be sure to bring a coffee to enjoy in the outdoor sculpture park.

The Briscoe Western Art Museum was wonderful to visit. We visited on a Tuesday evening when admission is free, but would recommend visiting any time as the experience is well worth the cost. It was three floors of art, as well as an outdoor courtyard area. We really enjoyed all the paintings and sculptures. The model of the Alamo was amazing. We were just in town for a conference and happened to be staying at a nearby hotel, but if your at the River Walk, I highly recommend stopping in.

Great western art on display. Lighting and presentation was off of some of the works. Not many just a few that I noticed. Took away from the art work over all. The rest however were wonderful and and really encapsulated the distinct ideals of the west. Also made me really wanna replay RD2.

The Briscoe Museum was one place I was able to take my Mother to see before she died at the age of 92.We used her wheelchair, rode the Via Transit to and from the museum, and she enjoyed the installations. The most fun for me was to see her sit n relax while listening to music played at one installation/exhibit you might consider a rest stop..An Alzheimers patient, mother clearly enjoyed the exhibits and they did reach her and the family history was brought to life for her.Very helpful docents, and my sister n I enjoyed their movie series on Western Women and their lives. Beautiful museum with some great western art and history exhibits. I really enjoyed exhibits on the third floor; the saddle and spur collections in particular. Museum staff recommends starting from the 3rd fl. and working your way down. Admission is $10 and worth it. I wish I had been able to spend more time at the Briscoe but will definitely return.

Such a wonderful little museum. They have really great saddle and spur collections, not to mention paintings and bronzes. Elaborately designed, the model of Alamo battle is an impressive demonstration with ornate miniatures. Dont miss the open-air sculpture exhibit in their backyard- its really awesome as well. Let me preface by saying that I am not normally a museum guy...but we had an ad-hoc visit here because we walked by on Tuesday night...free entry!Very cool Western art and museum pieces (murals, weapons, artifacts). We spent almost 2 hours there enjoying the well put together displays and intricacies of the various pieces and collections. Would have spent longer if I sprung for the audio tour...They have a modern Western artist wing as well, and that was a lot of fun too (no photos there though).Gift shop had a few fun things too! Worth a stop, even paying admission. Discount for military (and maybe first responders too).

This place was so awesome! Me and my father are from Dallas and went to San Antonio for the weekend to enjoy some time together as he has open heart surgery coming up. We both love history in love museums, all I can tell you is this place was perfect! I could have spent all day there and what was even more cool of a surprise was that they had a surprise gallery Western pieces done by Andy Warhol! But not only that they had everything from Santa Annas personal sword, two saddles written by Pancho Villa and Roy Rogers but also actual worn and used saddles that day back to the 16th and 17th century during Spanish colonialism. They also had many statues in many works of art on the wall throughout the whole museum, it was just totally unbelievable and I would definitely do it again as it was only $10 for an adult and $8 for my father because he was a senior citizen (65 years old and up is only $8). For a total price between both of us $18 was more than a bargain for three stories of Texas history and a surprise Gallery by Andy Warhol and another surprise artist. If you love history, love art and love a good time then you will absolutely love this Museum! Dont pass up this awesome opportunity while you were in San Antonio two taken so much history for such an awesome price, you wont regret it!

The Briscoe is a must see for anyone remotely interested in Texas or art. There are amazing collections of spurs, saddles, paintings, bronzes, and Texas/Mexican artifacts from the Alamo and other southern wars. The permanent collection highlights local history and the museum often puts on special events. The building boasts beautiful decor, with ornately trimmed ceilings and a very powerful and large sculpture in the lobby. Its a go to stop if youre going through San Antonio Museums.

Being that it was Monday, the Museum itself was closed. However, the reason that I gave the four stars is due to the fact that being a native San Antonian, Im glad to see this building given its third life. The history of the building is that for years, it used to be the main San Antonio Public Library. Then when the Library moved, it became the Hertzberg Museum, one of the few museums dedicated to circuses. Now I am glad to see that instead of being torn down or neglected, that someone is using it for a great purpose!

The horse saddles throughout are equally impressive. I highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting.
