Wish they allowed dogs on leash esp since it connects to 3 other forest preserves would be fantastic.

The path is very well maintained and scenic. I went there with the intention of bird watching and wasnt disappointed. They have a nice amount of prairie land that I even spotted deer in.

Love bringing my little one here! He has a great time exploring, getting dirty, climbing, playing music and just being a little boy! This is a great place to be able to sit back and let him explore and discover. Bring bug spray!!!!

This is small park but it has some unique landscape along its creek forming Dells. A portion of the trails leaving the nature center are paved and they stay within the confines of a small wooded area. Further on the trail becomes natural, more hilly and heavily wooded. The creek is the central feature in this part of the park. In the summer this park can be quite busy but the winter is much less active. There are large numbers of humming birds here in season up in front of the nature center so if you are looking to photograph them you are almost guaranteed to see them when it warms up.

This is an incredibly beautiful area. You can enjoy an easy hike through the wooded area, cross a bridge over the good-sized stream, and follow an ancient sanstone bluff up onto the prairie restoration field. Look at the wild flowers and listen to the numerous bird species.

I attended this location with my son and his class on a field trip. I pride myself in knowing and taking my children to everyplace that they can enjoy in Rockford. That day I found out I had missed a spot. When we went it had snowed the night before. That added to the beauty of the hike we took. The staff was excellent and taught us all so much about animals and made it understandable for the kids. We had so much fun, I will definitely be going back.

Absolutely fantastic place to relax and enjoy all the birds!!! The Nature Center provides food for our feathered friends so theres a lot of birds that call it home. Theres a multitude of different birds there..Indigo Bunting, Goldfinches, Rose Breasted Grosbeaks, Orioles, Nuthatches, Eastern Phoebes, Flickers, Gnat catchers, White Crowned Sparrows, and so much more!!! Theres also a really nice walking path and a natural play area for the kids; big and small . They also host a lot of Milkweed so the Monarchs are super happy there. Cant say enough good about this beautiful place. ️

A nice park preserve nestled just outside of town enough to get away for the sounds of the highway, but be close enough to still be convenient. If you are hiking make sure to get a COLOR map to follow the correct trails! Also, if you are up for the walk, make sure to get to the deepest part of the property to see the stream and dolomite cliffs.

Its a beautiful little park, I would give it more stars honestly, but any place in Illinois thats outdoors has a 50/50 shot of being a good day, could recommend more pavilions in case rain or drizzle, but then again most people dont go to a park when its like that so, go check it out on a nice day! Or build some shelter type areas for the people who like being out no matter what the day is like

We love Severson Dells because it is a quiet place wheree no dogs are allowed. There are educational programs for children that have greatly enhanced my childrens vocabulary. The paved trail allows access for those with disabilities and those who do not want muddy feet. You can see a pond, a creek, a forest, a prairie and a wetland all from the paved trail. There are also numbered posts that have QR codes on them. You can scan the QR code and learn about that specific area.

Attended an event hosted by Greg Keilback in which he shared a story he wrote about one of his earliest hiking experiences, and the impact it had on his appreciation for nature conservation. There is a knowledgeable staff on location, about to begin their nature walks and other presentations. I highly recommend making a visit to their web link so you can catch one of their calendar events. Also I want to mention there is a nice park area with picnic furnishings, and on the other side of the trail by the main building and parking area there is a large playground to watch your kids have fun and enjoy the outdoors.
