I was reading a book trying to decide whether to buy it. One of the people working in the store (?) offered me a discount, I thanked him and said that I still need to think. He got agitated, tore the book from my hands, ran behind the counter, hid it in a book pile there (!), then ran out of the store. I was so confused I thought that maybe hed return with a book, and waited for a while, but he just vanished. It was the most bizarre experience of the day, and somehow a vaguely disturbing one.

A very interesting shop on Westminster Street. We happened in here on a Friday afternoon and quickly became involved in a great conversation with one of the owners, Ray Rickman. Having a mutual connection with Detroit, he and I spoke and reminisced about our old neighborhoods and how Detroit has changed over the years. This shop has an eclectic mix of antiques, vintage clothing and books, and many artifacts of the civil rights and abolitionist movements. Definitely stop in and pick something up!

I love this place. There is a mini museum and tons of used books for sale. Ray Rickman is a delight to speak with. He always starts an interesting conversation. The best part is that it is a non-profit.

The director Ray was very welcoming and shared his extensive knowledge of Rhode Island history including that of the African American community and his quest to promote access to swimming classes for black youth. Robb thereafter give us a tour of his current exhibit on spirituality and religion in the Black community of Rhode Island from the 18th Century to date. We were enthralled by his work and presentation. We will be going back!
