Okay so we did the adults only beyond bizzare tour last night and our guide was amazing! His name was Velentyne(not sure how to spell sorry). He had so many great stories and was very knowledgeable about Portlands history. He has spent a lot of time researching Portland and has a lot of experience. I brought my dog as well which was not a problem at all. When we were down in the basement he asked a spirit if they liked dogs and my reader started going up and Ali my dog started jumping on me. It was so cool! We had a great time.

I am not a native to Portland and neither was my date. I honestly didn’t know what to expect when setting up the tour for a Sunday at 11am.Here it goes from setting up the tour to finishing it out that day of.I went on their website and set it up for what I thought was on a Sunday at 11am. Come to find out I had set it up for the following day (Thursday) at 11am. I emailed and called them literally 5 minutes after making that huge mistake. I let them know I made a mistake and was hoping they could swap it to that Sunday. Fell asleep and waited till 9 am the following day to find a response in my email box that they had successfully changed the dates for me! I was so relieved that they were able to do that! Big points on my end.The day came (Sunday) to drive up to Portland. It was a great day partly cloudy with chances of rain. We parked in a decent garage for a low price of $5.00 which to me wasn’t really that bad for such a large city. We park and walk around with our eyes peeled in the GPS on our phones since we don’t know much of Portland well. We walk up to the front of the building. The building is a historical building from the 1800’s and looks amazing. There was a sign out front about the tours and the door was wide open greeting us inside. As we walk inside we are overwhelmed with the aroma of the historical sweetness and the sight of the overly walked hardwood floors that even Martha Stewart would die for. It is so minimal in things in there it is a joy to even stand in. We were about 30 minutes ahead of time and were greeting by a very friendly gentleman ( born and raised portlandian). We chatted for a few minutes and I wandered off to look at the pictures and all the historic things in the beginning of the waiting area.30 minutes past and it’s filled up quite well with people of all types and locations. Some from the Midwest and some from the Easy coast. All of us gather together in a group an we go ahead and start our venture.Much to our surprise it started outside with a history lesson about Portland and the area surrounding. The tour guide (who greeted us when we first walked in) then took all of us walking and stopping at certain points to speak about different parts of the history and how significant they were to each location and how things have now changed but there are parts that remain. We then make our way back to the beginning and get the honors of making our way down to the tunnels. We all grab a flashlight as we walk down what looks like stairs built for Snow Whites seven dwarfs. I recommend everyone use the handrails and take your time and these steps are very small and could easily slip one or three. We finally get downstairs and it is so dark and has this aroma filled with history that only one could imagine. We make our way to the end where there is a stack of concrete where you can’t go any further. The guide then gives you a history lesson on this and quite a few others having to do with the tunnels. We then make our way back up stairs and the tour guide finishes up his tour with all of us. We are then enlightened with the guide and his over-told stories of life living in Portland. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Portland. The guide is so funny and accommodating. The history is nothing less than extraordinary. I’ve been a Oregon native all my life and even it was a blast for me.

Mostly a tour about the political history of Portland. Wanted to have more information about the Shanghai tunnels. The information that was given is slanted to a political view and omitted facts about slaves and how Portland was a hub for trade in the tunnels. Also there is no tour into the actual tunnels just their basement.

Humorous and informative. The guide made the stories horrifying fun. Very little time underground, as the tunnels have all closed per city order but you still get a great deal of information on the underbelly of the citys shady past.

We did a Tipsy* Tour with Herb, and we agreed it was our favorite thing we did in Portland. First of all, hes super-knowledgeable about the city and its food and drink. Second, he knows EVERYBODY! Third, hes a good sport. We had wine, beer, cocktails, cider and plenty of food. I was actually surprised how much food was included in the price. We went a little over our time, but it was just the four of us and we spent more time in the bars, but Herb was willing to roll with it. Fun fact: tater tots were invented in Portland! Thanks, Herb! Im calling you if Im ever in the Cash Cab. *You might actually be tipsy after this tour; take the streetcar home.

We took the Underground Portland tour. There was a lot of potential for it to be a very interesting and informative tour, but our guide, whos name I dont recall, seemed not to know very much beyond the (almost) memorized script. She also had a great deal of trouble getting the microphone and speaker to work properly, so it was difficult to hear at times. Our visits to the tour locations were mostly very short, with only the most basic information included. There was more detail about a father and son team of crimpers, Eriksons Saloon, and the history of Voodoo Donuts, but that was about as interesting as it got. With a more informed guide, this could be a much better tour.

The guide is very informative. I wish we would have perhaps gone into some different buildings instead of looking through the glass. Voodoo donuts was a great bonus. It seemed to sort of fall apart at the end when we were trying to speak to “Nina”. An unscheduled(?) ghost tour was taking place upstairs and I feel like it might have ruined the cellar basement experience at the end. I also wished there would have been tunnels or that the tour was accurately represented through the website photos. From the other reviews I’m sure this is still a tour worth checking out. We just happened to be unlucky.

He was hilarious, engaging, interactive, and informative. We got to learn about some spookiness-detecting equipment, like the EMF detector pictured. We also stopped by Voodoo Donuts and each person got a donut to snack on. They accommodate for dietary restrictions as well - mine was vegan!Even if you dont believe in ghosts or the supernatural, you can enjoy this tour. Lots of cool stories and it was great to learn more about the history of an awesome city.

Beyond Bizarre Adults Only Tour 10/06/2019 - 21:00Ill start by stating that I am a firm skeptic while my wife is a solid believer. The day before we did this tour we did a ghost walk down in Independence Oregon. We were thoroughly disappointed in that walk (at least it was free) and so to make it up to my wife I decided to take her out on this walk.We arrived a bit early and were promptly checked in by out guide, Meghan. We waited for a short while in the lobby for other clients to arrive. The lobby is adorned with a variety of pictures from Portland past and it is always fun, for me at least, to see these glimpses into a bygone era.All of the other attendees arrived ahead of schedule and so Meghan got us started just a couple minutes early. The tour started with a brief talk on the history of Portland and a handing out and explanation of the K2 EMF Meter, a standard piece of equipment for those that chase spirits. The walking portion of the tour covers a little more than a half mile and took us a little more than an hour. Meghan was knowledgeable and friendly and stopped at various points along the way to explain the different hauntings that people have encountered. I wont spoil the tour for anybody but there is a mid tour stop for a delightfully Portland treat. At the conclusion of the walking tour we arrived back at the main hub and were then invited down into the basement for the possibility of more encounters. This basement, like many in the old town part of Portland, has connections to the mid 19th century era Shanghai Tunnels. We were told a history of this particular building and then invited to extinguish our flashlights. One of our group did not have the nerve to do this and so they quickly left the basement area while the rest of us attempted to commune with the dead. One of the other tourists did receive multiple K2 meter hits while we sat in the darkness and she complained of feeling suddenly cold. I did not experience these effects so I can not verify their authenticity. After about 15 minutes or so in the basement area flashlights were turned back on and we all slowly made our way back up into the main floor. We turned in our K2 meters and were given an opportunity to ask any follow up questions.Nothing that I saw or experienced during my particular tour caused me to change my skeptic stance however that does not in any way detract from the tour itself. It was a very pleasurable experience and I would recommend it to anyone, even other skeptics, if only for the historical perspectives.I will likely be back to try some of the other tours in the future. Thanks a bunch folks.EDIT: One other thing. If you enjoy your tour, please show your appreciation and tip your guide.

We took my daughter and niece and nephew for the ghost hunting tour. There was a lot of interesting information about the city, though it seemed heavily skewed towards negative aspects of the citys origin. I dont mind learning about the dark shady past, but Im sure there are some more awesome stories that could be shared. The underground portion amounts to the basement of the building, which is typical stone foundation of most Portland homes and then you ask ghosts to answer questions on EMF detectors. Something did set off my nieces detector so that was exciting for the kids. Our guide Tyler did a great job and we enjoyed him throughout the walk.

Full disclaimer, I’m not a believer in the paranormal and was there for a group of friends. Tours are scheduled for set intervals lasting about 1 and half to 2 hours. The guide we had, while polite and enthusiastic, was very script heavy, not really open to any sort of back and forth conversation or questions. If any were asked the guide was thrown off as if they had lost their train of thought. Having been handed EMF detectors to monitor paranormal activity, we started with a tour out and around Portland, in which we were provided with some interesting backstories and histories of the city, much of it citation needed. We eventually were lead back to where we started and headed into the basement of the building which was the fabled Shanghai tunnels. It was a basement with the lights off and a blocked off hallway which was the supposed tunnels. This was extremely disappointing. In the basement the theatricals began and so did the tall tales. The tour guide put on a show with the EMF detectors and began speaking to ghosts. The majority of the group seemed to enjoy it and I’m glad I at least did it, but I was informed by my partner who had been on it a few years prior that it was better back then as you actually went into the tunnels. Definitely not my cup of tea, my highlight being the Voodoo Doughnuts.

So, not really an underground tour at all. We walked around downtown, Tom McCall waterfront along the Willamette River, and then briefly inside an oyster restaurant to look down a glass window to see a concrete incased whole in the ground, nothing special about it. Finally back to their office and thats when you go underground to their very low ceiling basement. Theres an old suitncase laying on the ground, a few posters about some shady dudes from way back, a couple arched brick-off tunnels that used to lead between the buildings and one that has a big pile of concrete rubble blocking it off. You walk around in there for a few minutes with flashlights. I thought it was a really boring finale. Overall it was interesting to hear some of the history but it was a let down. Not sure if Id recommend it, unless you dont have anything better to do for a couple hours.
