This theater is a gem. My wife and I have had so many wonderful experiences here, from fundraisers to new movies to private parties and screenings. Even though this is an historic theater, they keep up with new technology and are one of the few theaters in Portland to offer 70mm movies!Help keep Hollywood Theater alive during Covid and support them any way you can!

Historic, gorgeous venue with a great connection to the community. Snacks, drinks, and food offerings are fairly priced and wide.Seats are older and not quite as comfortable as some modern offerings - so bring a lumbar pillow. Many classic movies to relive on a gorgeous screen in a classic format.

Loved this place so much we became members. Now we get advance notice on special events like special screenings and guests - which helps because Portland is a city full of super fans of just about every genre and niche interest, so this stuff sells out quickly. If you are when a little interested, go for it.For the rest of yall, this is still a place worth checking out. Its a beautifully restored movie palace with one large downstairs theater and two smaller upstairs theaters. They show first run, special interest, super obscure, and lovingly preserved movies. There are often special events with Q&A opportunities with the makers. There are definite quirks that come with an older building (I think only the downstairs theater is fully ADA compliant, and the upstairs bathrooms have fiddly plumbing), but it mostly adds to the charm of the place. And seriously, the programming cant be beat.

Yes, full 5 stars. In my estimation, this is one of the most iconic buildings in the whole of Portland. So many of the old theaters that we all like to visit, are somewhat janky, but charming. Hollywood Theater has been kept up and maintained to a large degree. The pizza is by Sizzle Pie, and the snacks are reasonably priced, and the concession stand has plentiful options regarding beer and cider and wine. Big, beautiful, modern screens and sound system. Please support this locally owned non-profit, or even become a member.

Saw a screening of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre here tonight on the second floor theater to the left. Excellent sound quality! Probably the best version of the film Ive ever seen; it was incredibly loud, visceral, and intense as hell. Truly a great experience! The sloping pattern of the seat placement makes sure that no one is ever in front of you blocking the screen. The screen is huge and the seats recline back at just the right angle. Comfortable seats and small tables in front for your food and drinks. Get there early for good seating. Been here many, many times. I love the Hollywood Theater. ;)

I had an amazing time at this theater. Its amazing on the inside and out. The owners took great care to retro fit this place and it feels great. The movies they play are just as awesome and you can find some of the greatest on 70mm. If you want a great night in a great place, then you should definitely check then out and their schedule of movies.

Beautiful Portland landmark. If you ever get the chance to, come watch a movie here. They do a great job of curating excellent films and bringing events to the area. The chairs are a little lack luster, but it’s such a beautiful theater with great movies so it’s totally okay!

Wonderful restored historical theater, a bit worn in spots but lovely nonetheless. I attended the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival here. If I lived in Portland, this would become a regular visiting place for me. The concession stand offers a wide array of fare, including really good pizza from Sizzle Pie. Bonus: the concession prices were reasonable!

I absolutely love this theater. It has a great mix of first run, art, and event screenings (including 70mm showings). Admission is shockingly cheap even more so with a membership. Food is also cheap with my usual tab for popcorn, drink and maybe candy being less than a popcorn at a major theater. There is a whole lot to love here.

Great historic theater. I recommend getting a subscription if youre into movies at all. They regularly show rare indie, cult classics, silent films with live pipe organ music, and special events make this more than just a basic movie theater. My favorite indie theater in Portland. Beer and pizza at theaters is now common, but what The Hollywood brings to the table is not just indie films, but also great events and special showings, like themed films, cult classics, and special prints of rare cuts. They also do a lot of 70mm showings, if youre into that sort of thing. Their new partnership with Movie Madness shows their crucial place in providing serious film fans with their fix in Portland.

Great theater in the old movie house style, but upgraded. Seating is not the fancy recliner style that newer theaters have but there is a counter running along the front of each row so you can put your food or drink down. They serve pizza which comes from the pizza place next door, I think its Sizzle Pie. My only negative is that my slice was quite stale, no sizzle at all. I think it had been sitting out for a while. As a consequence, I will probably not buy pizza there again. Other than that I do enjoy going there.

I dont write reviews and find the star rating system woefully inadequate of its existence. However, after watching Quentin Tarantinos Once upon a time ... In Hollywood, I am compelled to do just that. This theater is a movie lovers den. I imagine many people might have reasons to see movies elsewhere but, for a true film experience with fellow cinephiles, the difference between a reason and an excuse doesnt cut the mustard. Spend one opening weekend of a Director you love here and youll be back for more.

This classic theater may be the reason this area of Portland Oregon is called the historic Hollywood District. The building is unbelievable. From the overall architecture to the intricate, sculpted facade with its equally detailed, paint scheme, it is breathtaking and a must see if you visit Portland.
