Love the Jo Bar. Had a memorable dinner here in 1998 while driving from Seattle to San Francisco. A local friend recommended that we have drinks here last night & it struck my memory. Loved it as much as the first time. Relaxed cool ambience enhanced by a jazz ensemble playing in the background. We enjoyed a bottle of Linga Franca that they graciously opened & served us for a $15 corkage fee. Enjoyed the burrata with fruits & the halibut preparation. Both were super tasty and eye appealing. Friendly service brings them to 5 stars. Highly recommended.

The atmosphere is lively and the venue is contemporary. The servers are attentive. I love the menus where you can have a great burger, delicious soup, a thin crust pizza, salad and or a special entree. I loved the butternut squash soup and the mushroom!truffle ravioli! This is always one of my favorite places.

What a treat! Jay and I discovered a Portland neighborhood we did not know and happened upon Jos! Lovely menu, ambience, and an intimate bar attended by a lovely bar mistress. Yummy dinner accompanied by a live jazz combo. It was Monday nite but we felt we were on the verge of the weekend here at Jos!

This could have been an isolated incident, but I had a bad time on NYE (last night). They must have recruited the worst waitress in Portland for that evenings event, because she went out of her way to avoid actually waiting. I know the tactic, avoiding the customers gaze and often the entire table. We had to hail her co workers more than once, only to have them direct our waitress on our behalf. When I let my tip speak for me, the manager insisted on hearing what they could do to improve, only after asking the wrong person-- why I was not satisfied with the service. My gfs food was cold, the table became overrun with empty drinking glasses, and we had to approach the bar more than once to get drinks. If any of these issues, were less explicit, I probably wouldnt have focused on the departing shift leaving through the dining room, joking with on-shift staff on the way out. But, Im an optimist. I feel as if this place could do better. In fact, Im sure of it. Probably an off night...

Great place for jazz on Wednesday evening (starts @ 7) with no cover charge. Great local musicians from Portland and the surrounding area. Small seating area inside, but outside seating is available but you need to order food if you occupy a table. I often take my own wine & they charge a $15.00 corkage fee (reasonable). Food is good and eclectic with a wood fired oven visible form inside the restaurant. A local gem next to Poppa Hayden!

I was down on 23rd for a 2 hour massage and my Pops wanted a good place to wait so I recommended Jo Bar. After my massage, I met up with him there and had a couple drinks and some tacos in the bar. The weather happened to be really nice so they had the outside seats and the windows inside open so very good people watching on NW 23rd. Had a Cab wine, a michelada (from the brunch menu even though brunch ended at 3pm I think) and the beef tacos and neither was disappointing. Free Wi-Fi and great location. They have music on Sundays but didnt get to stick around that late. Was there about 3 pm and the place wasnt overly crowded so that was good. If you on 23rd, give them a shot.

We’ve been loyal patrons of this trendy bistro since it first opened. One of our favorite dishes included the Jo burger, but the last time we stopped in they had changed the ingredients for the hamburger removing the cheese and replacing it with “American “ cheese - yes, processed cheese like Veveeta! What’s next? Spam?Really, I expect decent ingredients from a restaurant like Jo Bar, not processed glop that doesn’t even belong in a greasy spoon diner. We were regulars since you opened, but we can’t trust your choice of ingredients anymore.Jim Thayer

A Hidden Gem for Oyster Lovers -- $1 on Mondays and Tuesdays.Went back to Jo Bar again on Oyster Monday and the oysters were awesome. Not only that, but the shucker is a real pro. Every drop of liquor preserved, the oysters completely freed for easy slurping, and no shell bits. Cant beat it.

Drinks and happy hour and desserts are the reason to go here. Apple cider is the drink to gave in the winter! Rum. No apple brandy. This is a great place for cougar watching at the bar, since there are nightly train wrecks in the summer. Also if you can sit outside, do it. It makes it a more leisurely meal.

Food has never failed to deliver. Was with a group of five and we everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food. Its was a brunch and so I had their fresh albacore ceviche (delicious...had avocado which was unexpected but great!) and seasonal side salad (perfect size with everything crisp and fresh with tangy goat cheese). Listened to some great live music, finished with a nicely prepared cappuccino and seasonal desert. They share menus with their sister restaurant/ bakery Papa Hayden. There is no way to go wrong here. Small places so always hard to get into but always worth the wait. Summer time like now has great outdoor seating too.

The food and service have gone downhill quite sadly to say. It took 25 minutes to merely get our apetizer of fondue when the restaraunt was half empty too.The steaks were bland tasting, and we were charged $550 per 6 ounce glass of strawberry lemonade that was 90% ice....wow $33.00 just on Non-alcoholic lemonade for the wife and i.

Im surprised this place is a 4+. We had a table for eight ... it was 20 minutes until someone came around to ask if we wanted drinks (albeit 6 of 8 were seated, though you would think someone offered). Once we did order drinks, it took over 15 minutes for them to arrive. One of the cocktails had a bug in it. We had 4 starters at the table - none were great; the fondue was terrible. They agreed and made us a new one - the second was okay but not great. The entrees were well liked - food seemed fresh and high quality. Desserts were nice as well. Service generally was really slow and average. Wouldnt recommend it overall.

Great food (Rotisserie chicken FTW!) and solid drinks are what make this place a great standby. Big windows allow for great on/off season sitting and people watching and specialty house cocktails make it an ideal place for small plates and a night cap.

In an area packed with little cafes and bars, Jo Bars happy hour stuck out. They had so much good food and super affordable prices. Although they serve their beer in inappropriate glassware, the rest of the meal was amazing. Fried chickpeas, gourmet bruschetta, sweet potato chips, it was all tasty.

My favorite spot on 23rd. Beverage choices are perfect, food is gourmet, and the service is prompt. Plus in the summer they open up the bar to the street and you can get the breeze and the people watching, which is priceless! Papa Haydns connected too so you can get a too die for dessert when youre done with happy time or din. I come here every time I visit Portland and a great stop while youre out shoppin.
