Kind of an interesting place. For its historical value the museum doesnt focus much on President coolidges administration and any signature policies he had.It seems to play a greater role on the history of the place he came from. The tour was great.

On a quiet summer Tuesday, we had the place almost to ourselves. The staff is super helpful and friendly. Some of the museum exhibits are interactive which is cool for both young and old. The pristine little village harkens back to an earlier time in VT. The exhibits in the barn show what farming was like before tractors. I get exhausted just thinking about the rigors of their daily life! A very nice place to spend a couple of hours.

If you enjoy history, definitely make a trip to Plymouth Notch, Vermont where the 30th President was born. We went in the afternoon on Labor Day Monday and it wasnt crowded at all. Give about an hour and a half - two hours to see everything and walk around. There is a 15 min. video at the visitor center that narrates his life and the different buildings. Otherwise there is a 40-45 min guided tour. The admission is about $10 per person and it allows you to enter all the buildings. If you go to the cheese shop there is a small museum upstairs that display the different devices used to process cheese. This can easily be missed because you walk in and see the shop, but might miss the stair case up to see what is up there. They also have cheese samples too. The only building that we didnt get to see was the church and all the woodwork inside. It happened to be closed. The drive to get to Plymouth Notch is scenic with a few small towns along the route. It is a nice day trip if youre looking for something to do.

We didnt visit the site, just went for a classical concert. The ad read like it would be kid friendly. Decidedly not. Excited girls got asked to leave. They were not 100% quiet (moving feet), but you cant grow appreciation for the arts by making kids and young mothers feel uncomfortable. The grounds were beautiful, and Im curious about the historic site, but will have to come back without my daughter.

Sadly, I can only give 3 stars as this historic gem/tiny village wasnt very tourist-friendly. After you figure out how to get there, there is no directions for parking or where the building for tickets is located. Well, there WAS a sign that pointed in the WRONG direction. But after you figure those things out (best to ask someone working there), it really is quite a charming place, where you feel youre going back in time. Ill have to go return to explore it more now that Ive found those things out and will have more time.

I thought i was going to see just a house where calvin coolidge live but come to my surprise it a tiny village. i was told by the lady behind the desk in the museum that it was around 25 people who lived here. you can even enjoy cheese cake and the cheese cake factory or get a sandwich and ice cream at the wilder house. the tour starts at the Florence cilley general store where of can buy sweets, drinks and gifts. i didnt like the older lady giving the tour. she was a nice person but didnt tell you much. also if you dont like back woods dirt roads make sure your gps is set on on unpaved roads or you will find yourself on some. one way you will need a 4 wheel drive suv so i turned around hit detour on my gps and it took me on some back woods roads a long a stream. i love these kind of roads so it was fun for me but not my passengers.

A trip back in time! Calling all History Buffs! A must visit! We had such a wonderful time visiting President Calvin Coolidges childhood homestead (actually a small town) last fall. Also known as Calvin Coolidge Homestead District or President Calvin Coolidge State Historical Site. This is also where Coolidge, as the 30th President of the United States, took the presidential oath of office, initially being sworn in by his own father who was a notary upon the death of President Warren G. Harding. Located in Plymouth Notch, Vermont, Coolidge lived there from age four in 1876 to 1887, when he departed for Black River Academy for education. He is buried in Plymouth Notch Cemetery not far from the home. I have been to over 25 presidential homes, and this was by far my favorite. You get to tour the town President Coolidge grew up in; from the house he was born in, the local cheese dairy, and the small town store where he made the cabinets that are still in use. Full of history and lots to do.

Have visited 3 times with my family (including kids from young up to teenage) and it is one of our favorite historic sites to visit. The general store, the homestead history, the cheese factory. And if you go in the fall, the views of foliage sweeps you back to an earlier time. Highly recommended for any time of year.

This place was an absolute gem. For the history buff, the entire tiny town is dedicated to the life of one, particular U.S. president. It is small enough to see in a day - or even half a day - but rich enough that I would certainly visit again. For the buff whose family resents being dragged to historical sites, Plymouth Notch is about the most serene places Ive ever been. Bring a good book and read it, surrounded by rolling, green hills. Or do what we did: pack a picnic lunch, supplement it with some cheese (after you watch them make it), and have a picnic next to Calvins step-mothers flower garden.

We enjoyed the three hours we spent here. Start your visit at the Visitor Center, which has exhibits on the life and times of President Coolidge and his wife Grace. Its interesting that while the President spent most of his political career in Massachusetts and DC, he held a life-long affinity to Vermont, where he was born and raised. From the Visitor Center, there are a few buildings to visit, all Coolidge-related. Theres the small house where he was born, which is attached to the General Store. Next to it is the church he attended growing up. Across the street is the house where his family moved when he was four and interestingly, where he was sworn in by his father to be President, after the untimely death of President Harding. If you like cheeses, theres a store built by his father in the late 1800s that sells locally produced cheese at reasonable prices. The Presidents gravesite is outside the historic site but is only a short drive away along Lynds Hill Road. Check it out if you have time.
