Really nice place to visit.Had rain recently so the trail was muddy and water. Still worth it . Magnificent landscape. The view is breathing taking with the foliage.

Nice place to walk, some clear places to view of the river. The path is 2 miles one way.

A little run down but I love coming here. Took my wife on her first longer motorbike ride here. She loved it.

This is just a small roadside park along the Appomattox River, and a tributary. But it is beautiful and a great place to stop for a picnic, or hiking by the water. Its on the Virginia birding and wildlife trail, just outside of Matoaca Virginia

Peaceful for fishing and kayaking. Bring bug and tick repellent for you and your pets

It is a really fun park. Fish,hike, cookout, kids can play on playground or you can just hangout. Perfect cookout spot.

Its not bad. The playground is more for older kids. Plenty of places to hike and fish.

There were kids riding dirt bikes and rutting up the trails and almost hit us

Got us burger orders from What-A-burger on W. Washington St in Petersburg and went here to the picnic table by the pond to eat. Beautiful & peaceful.

Its always a pleasure our dobberman love it there she get in the water chase squirrel and frog and love it down there more then we do but thank you for keeping it a beautiful place to go to

The main parking lot was filthy. The trash can over running and there was glass all alone the waters edge other than that it was a beautiful time

Kayakers take the canal up to abutment dam, port over, and come back down the river to get out at the scout built picnic tables at the bottom of the hill from the red bridge... And just carry back up hill to your car. Hikers enjoy many trails and swimming spots.

Quaint play ground for kids. But RIVERWALK is beside canal is gorgeous!

Great little river with some lively water on occasion. Decent fishing. Take the center flow past the dam and then pretty much stay to river right.

This is just my spot that gives me relaxing feeling. Its not the beat place to fish but it does a few fishing spot

Take a walk by the river is very relaxing for me, the sound of the water going down stream, birds chirping and people having a good time.

Good fishing.. Catfish Large abd Small mouth.. Sunfish.. Knot heads.. Pike Gar Walleye.. L lots of paths abd trails. Family friendly

Has a playground for children, be careful very stumpy. Take plenty of spray for mosquitoes they are terrible here. Everytime we have come you get attacked as soon as you get out the car. Has beautiful trails, views and areas to take pictures. You can rent the pavilion if you like just need to contact office and have plenty of parking space.

Love this place it is about a 1.5 mile walk to the dam and it is beautiful. I love all of the wildlife and the time that I get to spend with my family. They also have picknik tables and a small playground for the kids to play on. Not a very good place to fish any more though because it is starting to become more popular so with all of the people walking up and down the trail the fish scare pretty easily. The trail is also well maintained it is perfect for a nice walk or bike ride with the family.

Its beautiful! There are little nooks and crannies where you can go in for a dip.

Great for a good walk. We like the upper trail that goes all the way back to the dam. My husband says that a picnic table is there now at the end. A few years ago when we went the water was low enough that we were able to go out onto the water and have a picnic on a big, flat rock. We always see lots of turtles out on logs and rocks in the water. I love it there.

Beautiful this time of year. Very relaxing sitting looking over the river. Great trails and history too.

There are few amenities other than picnic tables and a small playground. There is a bridge over an old canal and a well maintained path to the river. The other path follows the old canal. In spring there are pinxter azaleas ,trout lilies and other wildflowers with views of the rapids on the Appomattox River. Turtles are common in the small pond near the picnic tables and along the canal. Nice place to walk and picnic and not crowded.

Used to be one of my favorite trails. The trail is mostly washed out due to high water and poor management of the area. Would be a real shame to let this park waste away.

The park is really nice. Access to the river and the canal. Decent pathways, and spots for fishing from shore. No facilities were open in February tho, so go before you go.

Beautiful scenery along the upper trail. Numerous fishing spots along the lower trail whether on the bank of the Appomattox or rock hopping on the river itself. Easy access to the lower trail just behind the big red building.Easy access along the canal that runs parallel to the river on the opposite side of the upper trail, again numerous fishing spots along the canal bank or pond in the main area of the park. Pavilions for picnicking along the bank of the pond.Nice place to fish or take your kids on a nature hike.

Beautiful but very isolated and the water desperately needs to be cleaned and replenished. I hope to see the river fully come back to life one day.

Wonderful trail...Use common sense due to copperheads and cottonmouth snakes during the summer time....Keep your dogs and children safe.

Miles of trails for bikes or walking and access to fishing. Great local park that my son and i frequently visit.

This is a great park. Frequently I walk along the canal on the trail after crossing the bridge. The trail is pretty much flat and even and you can meet other people enjoying the trai with thei children or dogs or noth. It is also a good place to fish.

Go here a lot my whole family loves it even my dog!
