Enjoyable experience hiking the trails down closer to the aggressive flow of white water. Tons of shade to rest in during a hot, sunny day. The trails descent quite low and require an ascent back up so be aware of proper foot wear required and bring fluids.

Devils Hole is a pretty cool place! The amount of stairs youll have to walk down and back up is a hike itself, but theyre all in the woods, and part of the nice experience. Theres a pretty cool cave you can enter here, and a pretty nice walk overall. It is potentially hazardous, as in there is some pretty tall falls that would end pretty badly, but as long as youre even somewhat cautious youll be fine. Less athletic people should definitely bring water as the whirlpool, you pretty much have to climb over rocks to get to it and lots of inclines, basically, its pretty tiring and needing of water to comfortably compete. Beautiful place though!

Beautiful place, great view if all you do is stay at the top.But if you have the strength and stamina to take the stairs, you will be well rewarded by going all the way to the bottom to take in the view River side. There are 2 hydroelectric power plants, one on theAmerican side, the Devils hole hydroelectric power generation station and one on the Canadian side,The Sir Adam Beck hydroelectric power generation station. But what I likeThe best of this spot is the history associated with the area. Please take your time to enjoy not only nature and the view, but also the history.

Plenty of parking. Awesome trails. You can stay up high and do the easier trails or go for a challenge and descend down to the lower Niagara River where youll be right at the water level. This path is the one I usually take. Its more of a challenge but once youre down there its beautiful, peaceful and I love it more every time I go.

This is both beautiful and terrifying. The strength in that current of water is not to be taken lightly. Beautiful nature and history reign over this area with the Seneca natives who were dominant of the land allowed pale face men to exchange, travel and trade en route. Its a great hike and run for both beginners and experts for there are two different levels of hiking for anyone to try.

It is not the fanciest looking park - and the bathroom needs some serious work...But the view of the river and the rapids is amazing and the trail walk (or run) up to the Whirlpool Park is amazing looking down into the gorge. There is also a rough staircase that goes down to the gorge - presently closed for repairs - that is far from easy but worth the effort when it is open. There is another set of stairs at Whirlpool that you can use now and make a great loop when both are open.* Stay away from the very edge of the river - it will surge up and down significantly - dont make poor life choices down in the gorge

What a gorgeous place. Great view of the Niagara River from the upper trail, and beautiful hiking right by the river on the lower trail. The hiking is really only strenuous in the beginning and end - lots of stairs to get down and back up from the lower trail. Other than that, I would call it a moderate hike. It is mostly shaded, and doesnt have a ton of bugs either (we went in the afternoon in the middle of July, so i was pleasantly surprised). All in all, a really good day of beautiful hiking for my family.

Took a hike this past weekend, and it was so beautiful!!! We came from Toronto, and after passing through to Lewiston NY border, our GPS was directing us to something that looked like a power plant? It was hard to find the start point of the trail but we asked some locals and they directed us in the the right direction. In any case, it was really beautiful. A lot of stairs, going up and down. But once you you’re at the gorge, it was beautiful. The water was so blue and a lot of nice trees. At some point the trail gets really dangerously narrow. I was wearing my regular running shoes, it’s probably in your best interest to get proper hiking shoes to prevent slipping. Going down the stairs at the beginning of the trail was a bit dangerous as there was no railing or giant rocks protection, and it was pretty steep, and the rocks on the trail makes it difficult to walk. Other than that it’s so worth it!!!

378 steps down to Devils Hole. What a lovely trail. Well maintained. But do watch your step. Some tree roots and some boulders that you will need to navigate around. Due to potential erosion and safety concerns you are asked to stay on the trail and can be fined for failure to comply. Pretty walk. Loved it. Looking forward to exploring more around the Niagara Fall state park area.

If you can handle the utter boredom of the stairs, youll be in for quite a view. You can go right next to the water, especially if you go right past the signs telling you to turn around. This area of the park is wonderful. I enjoyed the VERY long staircase from road level down to water level. At the bottom, there are trails reaching in both directions along the water. You could spend a good hour or two here without being bored. The views at the road level are fabulous. It is currently June 2019 and there is some construction blocking the usual scenic drive route from the actual falls to this part of the park. The rerouting is not too bad. Worth the drive!

One of the best hiking spots Ive found in Western NY thats a short, easy drive from Buffalo. If theres one piece of advice Id give, its to be prepared for the climb back up. Going down the stairs and doing the entire trail from the Devils Hole stairs all the way down to what looks to be the ruins of an old concrete pier, and then back to the stairs is a relatively moderate exercise. The trail has very easy level portions and near the far side is advanced rock falls to climb over that can be tricky. However after all of that, the climb back up can be BRUTAL. Im a youngish person in ok condition and I have to stop frequently to rest up to continue the climbing. By the time I get back up, Im utterly exhausted, but its an exhausted in the best possible way and despite that, its well worth the trip and effort you put in. You can take either the DH stairs back up or about halfway back you can take the Whirlpool Park stairs. The Whirlpool stairs are easier to do than the DH stairs, but theyre still tough. Keep that in mind if youre running low on energy on the way back from the far end. Lastly, be sure to take PLENTY of water.
