If you pass by this memorial by take a few moments to bow your head because it’s a reminder of those who died in an awful war for freedom. Looking out to the seas knowing many lost their lives to defeat evil should take up a little of your time.

East Coast Memorial is located in Battery Park at the southern tip of Manhattan. It is erected in memory of US soldiers fallen at sea during World War II. The memorial is solemn and spiritual in its simplicity. A beautiful site, surrounded by the sea, the skyscrapers and trees of Battery Park. Especially beautiful at sunset.

The World War II East Coast Memorial is located in Battery Park, New York City. This memorial commemorates those soldiers, sailors, Marines, coast guardsmen, merchant mariners and airmen who met their deaths in the service of their country in the western waters of the Atlantic Ocean during World War II. Its axis is oriented on the Statue of Liberty. On each side of the axis are four gray granite pylons upon which are inscribed the name, rank, organization and state of each of the 4,611 missing in the waters of the Atlantic.

Haunting, and very American in style, with the gloriously huge Art Deco style eagle swooping from above to grasp the Laurel Wreath, a symbol of triumph tempered by monolithic monuments naming the cost with a sea of lost.

What a magnificent memorial with perfect views of the statue of liberty. We came here foe views of the statue, which were amazing. There is plenty of viewing room and away from the immense line of people going over to the island. We couldnt justify it, seeing as as soon as you get up close you miss so much. This memorial was an extra that we didnt know existed! Go see it.

Enjoyed walking around Battery Park, and visiting Ellis Island via the ferry. While the weather wasnt perfect or sunny, I still caught a picture of the eagle statue from underneath it, looking up at the stormy sky, and loved how it came out.

It was extremely enjoyable, although there was a heavy crowd at the nearby ferry to the Statue of Liberty, she herself was able to be seen from the memorial leaving beautiful sights in both directions and the opportunity to sit down and watch the waves or see the names of honored men and women in the memorial.

Facing the Statue of Liberty across New York harbor, the East Coast Memorial is located at the southern end of Battery Park. This memorial honors the 4,601 missing American servicemen who lost their lives in the Atlantic Ocean while engaged in combat during World War II. Designed by the architectural firm of Gehron and Seltzer, the monument consists of a large, paved plaza punctuated by eight massive 19-foot tall gray granite pylons (four each on the southern and northern sides) onto which are inscribed the names, rank, organization and state of each of the deceased.

A quiet place in the busy manhattan, where to relax before hopping on board of the ferries for staten island or liberty island. Take the time to wander between the eagle and the blocs with the name of the american soldiers who fought during WW2.

This is a beautifully situated memorial with views out onto New York harbor. Its simple, with peoples names inscribed into tall white slabs of granite (I believe). Toward the center there is a large eagle statue. A nice place to pause if youre passing by.
