I dont know if this review is for the theater, or for the production of To Kill a Mockingbird, but they were both great. I thought the ceilings were going to be too low in the balcony area, but once we were seated the views were fine. Not the fanciest decor, but it was a fine venue and attracts top talent and shows. Stage door is easy to find and well marked as well.

Saw the production of To Kill A Mockingbird here. While very different from the book and the Gregory Peck movie we all love, I completely enjoyed it. Ed Harriss performance was a highlight. I have watched Matilda, Hello Dolly and To Kill a Mocking Bird in this theater. Theater is bang in middle of Times Square and easy to get to. However note that seats are small and you will be squished up a bit. We got the last row tickets and were able to stand up multiple times during the show which helped, since no one was behind us. They were obstructed view seats but obstruction is just peoples heads at times which we dodged by standing up many times or move our heads around to get a good view. There are no elevators so balcony is a trek up. Not recommended for senior people so stick to orchestra seats. Hello Dolly was amazing and I wanted to see Bette Midler perform before she leaves the cast. Excellent show and a must see. I took off a star because I ordered a bottle of water at concession and they gave me a big cup with a lid filled with water. Ridiculous for $5. Why not serve a full bottle?

I cant say enough about Jeff Daniels and the entire cast of To Kill a Mockingbird. The staging combined with the story-teller aspects and the actors determination acne desire to convey not only the story but the meaning contained within led to a most enjoyable performance. The Shubert is actually connected to The Booth Theatre, both physically by a Venetian facade and by their own little artery; Shubert Alley. The Theatre is probably best known for the production numbers staged in show, The Producers although many productions have been shown in the over 100 years the theater has been in existence.

I just saw To Kill a Mockingbird there. The staff is amazing, everything is run great. Did I say the staff are amazing, because they are. The show was amazing, I was in the balcony and was great. My only complaint is obviously this theater was built awhile ago when people were generally smaller. I am a wide guy, and the guy next to me was also a wide guy. These seats are extremely narrow and there is not enough room at all. Also I am about 58 kinda short, but not too short. The tips of my feet barely touched the floor. I dont know if the seats lower are any better, but expect to feel squished while watching the show. I am still giving a good review because I cant help that situation, just be aware.

There are 2 things that I love about Shubert1. There is not a bad seat in the house. We were top left and there was minor view obstruction but its quite possible the shows choreographer planned for this. Thats some good in house communication right there indicative of how they appreciate the audience.2. The staff are top of the league. I think some otf the staff have been there since the placed opened, they know EVERYTHING, and more. Super helpful, they know exactly when to throw a little humor out in the world, and they seem to genuinely enjoy what they do.Lets not forget the feeling of history and a little bit of the old time way of entertainment. We went here to see To Kill a Mockingbird. We had 1st row balcony seats. There was a wall acting as a curtain blocking the bulk of the stage. Everything in front of the wall was out of sight unless I leaned forward. The person sitting behind me made the same comment. The theater is so established. Surely they are aware of this and would perform the play far enough back on the stage. Most of the play was far enough back, but there were parts I couldnt see. Whether you’re in the vertigo-inducing balcony (don’t look down) or the orchestra, there’s not a bad seat in The Shubert. The staff were incredibly courteous and they at least have two women’s bathrooms which is better than most broadway theatres. The play was moving both in its depiction of Deep South racism and the complexity of Jeff Daniels’ supposedly-heroic Atticus Finch.

This Broadway show was excellent. To Kill a Mockingbird was beautifully done, so happy to have seen it with Ed Harris as Atticus. He was a good fit. The actors in this were spot on, I felt love for them within minutes of the show starting. The actors that played the kids were just perfect. I was locked in the second the curtain went up.The only negative complaint I have is the wine at the theater. Oh damn, was it even wine? If I am going to pay 40 bucks (with no warning of the price) for a large wine it would be spectacular if it didnt taste like warm salt & vinegar. For 500+ a ticket, surely you can provide better options for wine/ beer if we are paying. This is Broadway afterall. Two buck Chuck from Trader Joes would even be an upgrade.

But the seats are uncomfortable, the rest rooms are inadequate (multi-floor lines at intermission for the mens room-- there were 30 men in line), and I was offered a room temperature soft drink without ice for Ten Dollars. I love the smaller, more intimate theatres like Shuberts. Tucked into the droves of theatres on Broadway, Schubert has a historical feel, cultural ambiance and all around a great venue. My family and I watched To Kill a Mockingbird here and had a great time. When first walking up to Schuberts, if youre early, it can be a little intimidating when you see the line however, once the doors open it is only a matter of minutes before you are nestled in your seat.My only complaint is that the intermission did not allow the servers to get to everyone in line. They had to cut off the line due to intermission ending. The staff was incredible though.

Its beautiful, but totally under-equipped space- and bathroom-wise. In the balcony, you have a vertiginous 4 inches of space if you are trying to squeeze past folks already in their seats, and its the first theater experience where I thought, however fleetingly, What if someone above me fell? And you will, definitely, be squeezing past folks, because there are about 6 bathrooms for thousands of women in 15 minutes. The math does not work. The view is passable. Clearly all staging is considering the poor upper deck view, but it doesnt stop the feeling that you cant quite crane far enough to know whats going on front and center. Buy good tickets and dont drink much, I suppose, is my best advice.

Last time here was for Matilda the Musical and previously for Chicago in the late 90s. Nothing much has changed --- OTT Venetian Renaissance everywhere but the ceiling is particularly splendid or gaudy, depending on your taste (mine trend to gaudy). Best sightlines are from the mid orchestra and the front row of the Mezzanine. We were killing a Mockingbird which is a overlong (chop the last 15 minutes) but very well staged in a rather touchingly democratic way where the cast shift the props. But the frequent attempts to make the play relevant to these dark Trumpaian days are heavy handed.
