This community/recreational center is, to me, a symbol of our culture and the open, welcoming sense of community and fellowship that New Orleans is known for-as well as its resilience. During Hurricane Katrina the roof of the main indoor center where the various activity rooms and basketball became structurally damaged and unsafe, and it took several years of dedicated, hard work and support from the local community, the coaches, mentors, parents volunteers and the kids who spent many happy hours at this Uptown location of the New Orleans Recreation Department (NORD) back up and running again. My son spent many years there in the football, basketball, and baseball programs, and our family has made lifelong friends in the many amazing people who give their time to make sure all youth have a place to go to learn, grow, play team sports, and form strong bonds that help them become fine adults. The well-kept facility is a reflection of the care our city has for the leaders of the future.

I had a covid testing done . It was simple easy and pleasant.

The staff is so wonderful and my girls love coming here for their dance classes!

Wonderful pool where to swim daily. Never crowded, smart life guards. I wish the pool was still open after Labor Day ... ;-)

What a great little place. My two kids grew up at this rec center, meeting a lot of the people they call friends, today, from all those years ago. Thinking back to the people who work here, some super friendly people that I know my kids always raved about. Long overdue, but thank you.

The pilates class is great..and the instructor is the best she knows her stuff

Didnt have a very good experience. The staff should be more friendly and willing to help. I went there for Summer camp registration from for 4-7 pm. I got there at 3:45. There were no signs or anything to direct you where to go. I asked the guy behind the desk and he was all dry anod was like just have a seat theyll be here. So the time had passed after 4 and no registration team showed up. I was like sir, do you know when these people are going to arrive because I need to pick up my son at 4:45. He said I dont know. I said well can you call? So he picked up the phone held and then hung it up. Didnt say anything after. So Im like ok what did they say? He was like oh they stuck in traffic. Its 3 ladies and all of then together. Then a lady came who works with the facility as well, I thought she was gonna help and she was like oh we dont work with the Summer camp so just have a seat and theyll be here late because the lady is always late arriving. There were 5 people that had to leave because the people were late. I mean I get that you may not know anything about the camp but just have good customer service.

The Lyons Center is recently renovated and a great facility. The staff is really helpful and kind. They have wonderful programming for anyone living in the city, for both children and adults. Their pool is large and clean and one of my favorites in the city. They also have a baseball triangle and playground. My only complaint is that they dont have any kind of gym equipment like many of the other rec facilities have.

Bathrooms are inside the building which was closed during the 2pm baseball game. The baseball field could use some attention, its not on the best shape.

Lots of free dance and fitness classes for youth, adults, and seniors.

Great place for kids to learn sports and recreation

We visited the basketball court, and that is the only part of the rec center Im reviewing. The seats are hard, which hurts if you have a back injury. The stairs are steep and high, which is hard if you have a knee injury. The floor is huge, and theres plenty of room for players to do drills and play.

I was very impressed with the moderators. A very positive experience!

A great place to find positive programs for both your children and yourself to stay active!!

I have never been in the Lyons Recreational Center. I was catching a bus right outside of the center.
