This venue was really nice! Holds lots of people and no one has a bad view. Since we arent from the area, we were a little confused at first of its location. However, once we got there, the parking ticket seller at the gate was friendly and showed us where we needed to park. The parking lot was quite large and also secure. The venue was clean and the staff were friendly.

Such a great theater to watch performances. No matter where you sit you can enjoy the show. The staff was friendly and the concession prices were on par with other theaters in the area. The sound was a little low but I think that’s more of the sound people for that particular show than it was the actual theater. Definitely suggest catching a play or a concert here.

Great venue. Not a bad seat in the house. We saw the Louisiana Philharmonic do Tribute to Zeppelin with Randy Jackson from the 80s band Zebra. What a fabulous time! If you are unsure about this venue, rest assured the seats are all good, even in the balcony. Have fun! Rock on!

I been here a few times and it always goes smoothly. Be prepared to wait in line at the concessions stands, regardless if its before the shows or during intermission, the line is always considerably. The aesthetics of the place are nice and the sound was impeccable the few times I heard the orchestra there.

The theater is a good theater. Good sound and plenty of seating with not a bad seat in the house. I have been to many shows here and enjoyed most of them. the parking leaves something to be desired. Getting in is fine, but getting out and back to the highway is a maze.

Theater is great! We had box seats for a comedy show and were super impressed with the theater. Its large enough to get big name acts and shows but small enough to feel a bit intimate. Catch a show here if you have an opportunity.

Honestly, this is my favorite theater in NOLA. Its pretty and comfortable. Every seat is a good seat (once i could only get tickets in the actual last row and it was fine) Its large enough without being overwhelming. It has a nice flow to the way seating and restrooms are accessed. I wish more live productions were here.

The theater area itself is nice, and the location in Armstrong park is beautiful, especially at night time. However the bars have unbelievably slow service. Went to a Bill Burr show there and stood in line for 40 minutes to get 2 beers...that is not an exaggeration. They desperately need more, fast staff and a key system for beers. Individual pouring every single beer from a bottle to a plastic cup was excruciating.Make sure you plan accordingly if you want a drink at any somewhat popular event.

Saw Dear Evan Hansen here and it was amazing. We got very cheap tickets and were in the last row of the theater, but we could see everything. The seats werent the most spacious, but no worse than any other theatre. I would go see other shows here for sure. Parking was free and close so that was a huge plus!!

Saw Bill Burr the other night. Comedian was awesome. Venue was terrible. Lines were out the door to get a drink at the bar. Venue was a crisp 98 degrees on the inside, it was 79 outside. Sweated my shirt out just sitting. Will go again but will bring a fan and cool towel.

Went to see Chris Tucker on 11/30/19. The show was incredible. The staff is very helpful and accommodating. Theater is beautiful. However, it was very hot during the show. My wife and I were sweating the whole time. Others were fanning themselves. Made it very uncomfortable. Hope this was an isolated incident.

The comedians were great but the venue not so much. There should be handrails so it would be safer. Also, the seats are too close together. Very claustrophobic. Getting in and out your seats is disruptive to the other guests. Cant use your cell phone, which I like, but the ushers had walky talkies that were more distracting that me having my phone out.

Saw the band Evanescence live with a full orchestra. It was the second time we saw the band in concert, the first time was 5 years ago at the Hard Rock casino in Biloxi ms. The first concert was traditional rock and roll with no orchestra. The second time we saw the band Evanescence it was with an orchestra. We got to meet and greet the band before the concert. They were very friendly. The facility was good for a small scale concert. We sat on the front row so it helped that no one was in front of us. The VIP package was well worth the price, front row seats with a meet and greet plus a champagne toast with the band. We meet some people from Norway, they were very sweet. I would recommend the concert and facilities.

The Mahalia is a more than suitable substitute for the Saenger theater. Honestly, there are many things I prefer about the Mahalia Jackson compared to the Saenger. The Mahalia is well equipped and situated away from the hustle and bustle of canal street. Armstrong park’s gates usually get opened to allow easy access for those on foot.

I saw a Thom Yorke show here. Seats were a little cramped and I got stuck sitting behind tall people so I didnt get a good view. Parking was a nightmare, had to have $20 cash only to use their parking lot. Also the security tried to shut down his show when he went 5 minutes over time. Thom wasnt having that. Awesome show, mediocre venue.

I believe they need to get the letter and number put on the wood shape piece facing people so that they would know where their seat is. Shining a light on someone who is seated and asking them what letter theyre sitting in is pretty annoying. Also the air was out that night. When you know there is a show that night please get your air fixed before the performance.

Takes way to long to get concessions. The workers are slow and there arent enough bars. You can either see the show you paid for or get a beer and water. Not both. Not that it affects the review, but pressure wash the damn building. This is the red headed step child to the Saenger.

I was not aware that I needed 15 dollars cash for parking. Was turned around @ the gate and told there was an atm 5 minutes away. I dropped my son off (he was performing) pulled out my gps and went on a scavenger hunt. First atm was locked behind a gate. Second was inside a Locked down store, third looked so dangerous I dare not get out of my car. Finally got back to the venue an hour into the show, I had been early by the way, and there was no one taking money for parking. I ended up not paying to park after all but nearly missed my sons performance. This place is not cheap either @ 37 dollars for one seat... oh, wait, it was 37 for the ticket plus another 30 in fees and taxes, so 67 for a seat.My only gripe is that if there was a notification on my e- ticket, anywhere, that I should have money on hand for parking and there would be no available atm, it would have saved me an hour of stress and I would have been able to see the show. Who carries cash anymore?

Normally I would have rated the Mahalia Jackson Theater higher. However, Saturday was not the case. Although the venue was clean, it was not an enjoyable experience. We were there for a dance recital. Before the recital began, there was an announcement on the speaker that videography and flash photography were not allowed. When our family member came on stage (we noticed the same happened to everyone else) we took out our phones to take pictures with the flash OFF. We didnt need the flash on because the stage was lit up appropriately. Next thing we knew 2 or 3 very angry & rude women began meandering between the rows, actually STANDING in front of us BLOCKING OUR VIEW of our family member performing to DEMAND that we stop video taping. We stated that we were not video taping & she said we had to put the phones down & couldnt take pictures!!! It was awful!!! We missed a good part of the performance because of her! Both of my parents are elderly. My Dad has been sick lately and my Mom is in a nursing home. My Sister had her cellphone on her lap & she was communicating with my Moms nurse via text. The same woman came barreling out of nowhere DEMANDING that my Sister TURN HER PHONE OFF!!! My sister told her that she had the ringer off and her phone was in her lap but her parents were elderly & ill and she absolutely was NOT turning it off! The woman just huffed & told her to just keep it down then. I dont know how much further she wanted her to put it. I think their behavior that night turned a joyous occasion into a miserable one. So instead of staying for the entire review like we normally do, OUR ENTIRE FAMILY LEFT as soon as our family member had completed her 2nd dance. This is PATHETIC.

This theater isnt bad. Its not great, but its not bad. Its not grand like the Saenger or the Orpheum. Its more on the modern side. Theres nothing remarkable about the building or the architecture. The seats are comfortable and the theater itself is a good size. The bathrooms were a little on the small side. Parking was ample. It cost $15, and it was a short walk from the parking lot to the theater entrance.(This review is for the theater, not the terrible production of Mozarts Abduction from the Seraglio. If anyone ever says, Hey, would you like to see an opera set in a club in 1930s Los Angeles, just say no. German opera and Laurel and Hardy slapstick dont generally go well together. The result was a disaster that should have been avoided.)

Ra

The space is what it is. I will think its a big space in a small building. I also think the fees are high to rent a municipal space. Perhaps the goal is to deter people from renting it. Lastly, I think the fact they are a union house I think is disturbing since the union in New Orleans a majority black city does not do well in calling their black members. The Mahalia is in a historically black community and it has no regular black union employees. Local 39 should be ashamed, but theyre proud.

Mahalia Jackson Theater is a beautiful facility however the acoustics for opera are not even. We were in the 2nd row of the upper balcony and I did not feel the voice clarity was that good. I would definitely sit further down in the future. Also, the stairs in the balcony are rather steep and completely without railings. This absolutely unsafe for anyone older or with mobility or balance issues. I will never sit in that area again just because of the lack railing.

This is an amazing theatre. No matter what show i have seen here the theatre was a great design and always compliments the show at hand. Today I went for my daughters dance review, it was a great show. The scene here is always beautiful with all of the fountains and open land to roam. Its ashame that the park isnt used to its full potential. Also the beggers seem to have taken this park over and care for the land as much as themselves so the fountains and waterways are polluted and not kept up as well making it not as beautiful as it could be. Despite this one set back its still a great place for family pictures and as previously stated the Mahalia Jackson theatre is a great event property with a well thought out design to make it a comfortable show. With the digital telivisions spread throughout so even when a break to the restroom or consesion stand for a bite is needed you never have to miss the attraction.

The Nutcracker was Amazing. The ushers left a bit to be desired. The fact that new guests were allowed in up until 8:45 and disrupting everyone on an aisle was Totally unacceptable.
