Go to this museum! It’s so wonderful during Covid because the mask policy is strong and the spaces are so big, there’s no issue social distancing! The building is absolutely gorgeous and the exhibits are amazing. I loved the diversity of art and especially the second and third floor options. The sculpture garden is also such a serene and beautiful beautiful beautiful place to spend hours. I could be here a whole day and learn so very much as well as rest. Great place to go! Plus City Park is right outside, which is the best spot in NOLA (along with the French quarter).

Large collection of art and decorative items from every world region and era. The impressionist collection is a must see on the 2nd floor. Special exhibits are done on a regular basis. Wednesdays are free for Louisiana residents. Botanical garden and sculpture garden are nearby and great to round out the day.

A beautiful sculpture garden with a huge variety of works from a myriad of renowned sculpture artists. Truly a great way to spend a nice day out. The works and galleries in the museum were also nice though their collection is not as expansive as other museums that I have been to. The coat/bag check was a plus and I felt that the admission fee was reasonable.

What an amazing museum. If you have a few hours, go! You can spend one or two hours inside, and then easily another hour outside in the beautiful sculpture garden. I wish the Chinese art section had been open, it was closed for renovation during our visit. But otherwise its a well designed museum with fascinating art from a variety of styles and times and places. I was surprised at the diversity. The sculptures are really cool and its nice to take a long walk around the lake and then through the garden if you get a chance. Can even bring a book and read on a bench.

Nice museum, though the breadth of the collection isnt as big as some other comparable citys art museums. (Dallas and Fort Worth come to mind, both of which are free.) However...the NOMA is in City Park and, if youre here...support the arts!! Its never a bad thing to see Picasso, and $15 isnt too much to ask.

The museum is cool, it has stuff from one family and if you read all the information you start to get the picture that something very wrong went on? Poor lady got beat? People tend to focus on the negative, it couldnt have been all bad? I liked the museum its a good one time, 1 hour walk around.

FREE This is a world class sculpture garden. The landscaping, the installation, and of course the art, make this an adult playground. As you drive towards the Museum the sculpture garden is tucked off to the right between the museum and the trail/ boat / lake parking lot.I was so taken by it, I waited out the rain in my car and went back to take the rest of the photos (sorry did not post all nor artist info) and then shared with any friends I thought might be interested (Dallas, Houston, New York). There is a small indoor gallery and nice bathrooms.Unfortunately, a couple of times, I came across children doing what they will do -- playing on the pieces they could climb on .Otherwise, this was a gem to discover on my visit to New Orleans.

If you are visiting NO, step away from the French Quarter and visit this precious gem in the heart of City Park. What a beautifully designed museum. The layout and diversity is excellent. To top it off take a stroll next door, at the Sculpture Garden, you wont be disappointed. It feels like you have been transported somewhere else... with the bridges, the oak trees, the moss, the water all around... and it is quite large too. Finish it off with some cafe au lait & beignets right behind the Garden @ Cafe Du Monde! (Its a little hidden, if you dont see it ask someone).

A beautiful building housing lovely exhibits. Spanning 3 floors and a sculpture park, this gallery has something for everyone. Ancient antiquities and modern interpretations fill the rooms providing learning and discussion opportunities everywhere. Make sure you have enough time to do it justice, each floor can take you 60-90 minutes to really review all the exhibits. Children are welcomed although there is nothing specific for them. The museum is surrounded by the wonderful city park which has a massive lake. So enough there to spend a whole day.

I was surprised that this marble edifice, impressive but also somewhat staid, held so many treasures inside! The first floor begins in the Great Hall, with a grand staircase watched over by a Rodin nude. On one side of the hall are rooms for European Renaissance and Baroque pieces, some quite beautiful and evocative. On the other side, across the hall, Dutch and Flemish paintings offer their typically lavish still-lifes and grotesque portraits. Through rear doors, you’ll find a shop and a cafe (both highly regarded) and a very large gallery for changing exhibitions. This was, unfortunately, closed during our visit.Upstairs, on the second floor, is where the action begins. There’s an extensive collection of French art across the great hall from rooms of 19th century Louisiana paintings and decorative arts. In the back, the modern extension of the museum displays many works by American and European masters: Degas, Monet, Matisse, Rodin, Gaugin, Braque, Renoir, Miró, Picasso (at least twice), Cassatt (also twice), O’Keeffe, Pollock. To the left, there are rooms devoted to photography, decorative arts, and prints. To the right, there is a changeable gallery for contemporary exhibits. That’s where we saw the stunning “America” by Will Ryman, a life-size Lincolnesque log cabin, painted all in gold and constructed from cultural touchstones - chains, arrowheads, bullets, spark plugs, iPads, pills and lozenges, gas caps.On the third floor there are exhibits for African Art, Asian Art (China, Oceana, Japan, India), and pre-Columbian Mesoamerican Art - there are some pieces from the ancient Mediterranean, too.In short, this museum seems to have a little of everything. Or a lot! The NOMA’s complete collection is apparently much larger and even more extensive than what can be put on display - that’s an issue for most art museums, but is particularly true with this institution and its hundred-year-old marble premises. It simply means that visitors should become frequent revisitors, not a bad thing at all.

Enclosed in the NOLA City Park, the museum offers an indoor/outdoor art experience of wold-class quality. Unlike most of New Orleans French Colonial architecture and style, the NOMA is modern, fresh and bold. The sculpture gardens are an easy 1-hour stroll along canals with Venice Gondolas (yes, gondolas), foot and train bridges, wild-life teeming ponds and a well curated mixture of modern and classic art sculptures from artists around the world. The sculpture garden is dog friendly.

One of the best regional fine art museums in the US. With newer galleries that extend out from the main building built in the early 1900s, the museum is deceptively large yet can still be toured in a single visit. Check the NOMA website in advance for discount ticket information, e.g. on some days students & teens are admitted for no charge as well as interesting lectures and presentations are provided. The wide range of art spans all continents from classic European art to the Americas and Asia plus a surprisingly number of significant modern works of art. The temporary exhibits are original and innovative highlighting contemporary artists working in different mediums and appealing to all ages. The cafe offers quality food for reasonable prices. The sculpture garden next to NOMA is a must see.

Because of the way the building is designed youll often think youre about to be going in circles back to the same exhibits but will find yourself in a whole new section with new and even more exciting pieces! I literally got lost in it and it was awesome. And many of the exhibits make you really feel like youre getting a visual history lesson on New Orleans. Also amazing is everything around the museum. The grass, flowers, and water. You can picnic or read a book on the lawn and feed geese and swans or rent a kayak, 2 row bike, mini-racing go-carts, or a number of other random and fun activities. And you have to check out the Sculpture Garden right next to/behind the museum. It is amazingly beautiful and interesting.Great place to visit with friends and family of all ages. And its right in the heart of City Park so you can tour all the other sights they have (lakes/bayous, parks/picnic spaces, miniature golf, Storyland) and grab beignets and coffee at Morning Call, a 2 min walk away, or stop in for lunch, dinner, or just happy hour at Ralphs on the Park where every drink and food menu item is peak New Orleans and deliciousness (read my review on this place).Make a day of your NOMA visit in City Park and Mid-City!
