Hidden historical gem! The Hill where the battle for Nashville ended. The Union Army collapsed the entire Confederate left flank here- game over. Short, but pretty steep hike to top. Nice place to sit & chill for couple hours if you appreciate solitude.

Shys Hill is a very cool place to check out if you are in Minnesota. There was a significant historical battle fought here where Minnesota was one of the main forces. The site is overall pretty small and doesnt have a lot to look at but there is a cool Minnesota plaque and a short walk to the top of the hill where you can see a Minnesota flag and get a good overview of city. If you are from Minnesota visiting here its well worth it to check it out

Definitely wear shoes and winter does provide great views. This is a big hill with an interpretive board. Its quiet and peaceful. As a history buff you can sit back and just feel, thinking of how many lost their lives in this little place. The place was very clean of trash, most likely because of the neighborhood. There is a little bench to sit on once you reach the top, so a great place to just sit or take a break from the climb. Definitely worth the trip here.

Little too hot to be hiking to the top of a hill today but I did it anyway because I like to visit battlefield sites.BATTLE OF NASHVILLEShys HillOn this hill was fought the decisive encounter of the Battle of Nashville December 16, 1864. At 4:15 P. M. a Federal assault at the angle on top of the hill broke the Confederate line.Col. W. M. Shy, 20th Tenn. Inf. was killed and Gen.T. B. Smith was captured. The Con federates retreated over the Overton Hills to the Franklin Pike....

Shys Hill is an essential stop for anybody on the battle of Nashville driving tour, or anyone who is into history, especially the civil war. The site is pretty muddy and slippery after rain so bring some heavy duty boots if you dont want to slip, and the climb up isnt too excerting, although it is a bit of a workout and steep. Other than that, there is some space for parking (not the case for other sites on the tour) and there is plenty of historical signage to explain the history and significance of the hill. At the top is a nice memorial and excellent views of the Nashville skyline through the trees. Overall it is a fun little hike and an interesting little known piece of history.

MUST VISIT Civil War site in NashvilleAtop the hill there are flags representing Minnesota, the U.S. flag, and the 1st National Flag of the Confederacy. The rebels were badly whipped at the hands of James Wilsons Cavalry Corps and multiple Minnesota regiments from A.J. Smiths detachment of the Army of the Tennessee. There is a Napoleon 12-pounder facing north at the summit of Shy’s Hill, the final Confederate position at the Battle of Nashville before retreat.

Its in a neighborhood. Parking is just a pull out between private driveways, big enough for maybe 3 cars. Slightly steep, well laid out trail...lots of roots so no strollers/wheelchairs. Great info available on the markers. Very peaceful...makes it difficult to imagine the death and destruction that covered this hill.

I enjoyed the site. It is not very large but I appreciate the historical society saving this property for its historical purpose.

A short walk around a significant Civil War battlefield Honors all who fell there. Meaningful.

An interesting site; however, the pathway is a bit rough (loose dirt and riddled with tree roots), and the American flag was is disrepair. More information about the significance of the site and its greater context would have made the site better. We learned more on the internet than the placard at the site. Regrettably, three Battlefield Map box was empty.

What a great bit of history right in our back yard. As these places dwindle you must visit them before they are gone. It was sad to see a little bit of vandalism and disrespect to our historic places.

Great to see this old civil war battlefield! I read up on the Battle of Nashville before I came, and it was a sober experience to hike up the hill. The site is clean and well maintained, and in the middle of a nice residential neighborhood.

Space to park one or two cars only. There is some explanation there. The path is maintained but is rough and steep. Wear tennis shoes not flip flops. No signage on Harding Rd pointing you to the most important site of the Battle of Nashville. You just have to know its there. Astounding
