Dude I felt like a proud American when I first stepped foot here a decade ago for my elementary school field trip. Really cool knowing that George Washington, father of the United States, and the first president stayed in Morristown during the Revolutionary War. Learn a lot and highly recommend to my fellow Americans.

The brand new Discover History Center at the Washingtons Headquarters Museum is a must-see for any fan of history, National Parks, or anyone wanting to find out more about local Jersey history and culture. The center features brand new exhibits with fantastic graphic design, interactive digital displays, information based on primary sources, and audio displays that put you in the shoes of historical people. Great update and well worth the trip!

Excellent museum, suitable for both children and adults. Lots of interesting displays and some interactive stuff. Quite a lot of stuff to see here, you could spend at least an hour visting. For me Washingtons Inauguration sword, and the collection of Revolutionary War documents were the highlights. Easy parking and free to enter. There is a small, but very nice gift shop.

This is a very informative and educational historical site to visit. The museum offers lots of interactive and historical exhibits for visitors. It even has a movie to watch. These exhibits will teach you about George Washington and the American Revolution. One example is there is George Washingtons Inaugural Sword at one of the exhibit rooms. That is a golden gem at the museum. It even has interactive exhibits for kids to learn about history but , in an interactive way. There is a Ford Mansion Tour which starts at the museum. The tour teaches you about George Washington’s stay at the mansion and the winter of 1779 to 1780 which was a very bad winter. Even talks about the history of the home itself. The best part it is all FREE!

I went to the Washington Headquarters Museum today with coworkers. It was great to be part of the tour. I would recommend this for every history buff. Even it you are not a historian, you will learn a great deal about the Revolutionary War and NJs role in it. I will definitely tell others about this experience. It is good for the young and the old. It was also fascinating to hear about the most brutal winter in NJ history 1779-1780.

Great trip for history buffs as well as those who should be! See the home Washington stayed in and used as his headquarters plus a visitor center with lots of info and artifacts. Basically 2 buildings here, but other sites are a few miles away. Video is very good explanation; Ford house tour guide was very knowledgeable and personable. All can be seen in a few hours here, but other sites can also been done on the same day.

Informative museum. Learned so much about the main event that put Morristown on the map - the winter encampment of 1780 by then-general George Washington and the Continental Army as they regroup, strategize, and prepare for the next battles. The hardship they faced, and also the steps they took to improve conditions for the troops, make for a compelling story. If youre visiting Morristown for its history, definitely make this your first stop.Admission is free, as are the guided tours of nearby Ford Mansion, where Washington stayed during the encampment. Allot at least two hours if youre planning to visit the museum and join the guided tour. No food places around here. The nearest ones are by the train station, a short drive away (20 minutes by foot).

It’s a lovely small exhibit but there is no entrance for my mom who needs wheelchair accessible. Seems rather strange that they wouldn’t have a ramp so someone with physical limitations can see the headquarter house- which is the main focus of the place.

Fantastic museum about George Washington and New Jerseys role in the American Revolutionary War. Downstairs has an interactive learning area with lots of things for little hands to touch, including a furnished model soldiers hut that compliments the outdoor, recreated huts at Jockey Hollow Park on the west side of town.

The place to inform you how General Washington and his army won the American Revolutionary War by enduring a starving time. This is not a place for picnic or walking. Small parking lot. The majestic museum includes all the basic information on the War. I do not recommend the group tour organized by the Museum. On your own initiative, go over all the displayed things and written information. It takes 2 or 3 hours. When I visited there two months ago, Ford Mansion was closed. Do not forget to cross the street in front of Ford Mansion and see the statue of George Washington, a guy of tenacity and perseverance.

The Ford Mansion aka General Washingtons Headquarters was built in the early 1770s is the location that the general and his troops encamped at for the winter of 1779-80, the house can only be accessed via the tour. Washingtons headquarters museum and the Ford Mansion are part of 4 separate sites that make up the Morristown National Historical Park. In fact, these areas were the first national historical park, established in 1933.The museum is small, with 3 rooms of artifacts. We learned that General Washington was a sword collector, and the museum displays the sword he was wearing when he was inaugurated as the first POTUS. There are also historical items like furniture, clothing, games, and pamphlets from the late 18th century. Pamphlets were apparently like blogging back in the day.Its a pretty building, built in the 1930s by the same architect as the Jefferson Memorial in DC. Washingtons home in Mount Vernon was used as inspiration. The entry fee is $7 per adult, kids under 15 yrs are free. Tickets are good for one week. The entry fee includes a guided tour of the Ford Mansion, which is the only way to see the house where Washington and his aides resided for the harsh winter of 1780. The guided tour is a must! The Ford Mansion (not from the same family as Ford Motors) was the largest house in the area at that time. The family who lived there had to move into a small area of the house to host General Washington and his staff for the winter. There are a few original pieces of furniture, and the park service has furnished the rest with period-appropriate pieces. There are two floors to tour in the mansion. Luckily, it was air-conditioned. The only part of the house missing was the temporary extension added by Washingtons men, where his aides de camp lived and worked. We had a park ranger named Thomas Sobol on the 30-min tour, and he was very knowledgeable about the sites, and the war history in general.Highly recommended!
