So today was my birthday and I wanted to spend it in a very special way and learn and see things not many people my age do and see. My girl and I went to the Russian Museum and it was spectacular in so many ways. The Art is magnificent, the description of the art and knowledge of persons, views and how It relates to the SSR, Communists views and the hardships people had to endure and over come. Hats off to the people who made this little magical creation. I strongly recommend people to visit this museum and learn from the history from the people. And hopefully Travel to Russia to see the real thing. Thanks to all the staff and people who made this what it is.

Absolutely amazing place. The Museum is fantastic with a healthy selection of traditional and contemporary Russian Art you can easily spend a few hours browsing their rotating collection. We recently held our wedding at the Museum and we could not be happier. The space is great for a moderately sized wedding, guests can browse the art while arriving and the paintings add a fantastic atmosphere to your ceremony. Michelle is great at making the ceremony run smoothly and the process could not have been more painless. I would definitely recommend this place as a venue weddings as well as a visit to view the art.

It was fun to use Google Translate and the camera to translate the Russian. A smaller place with 3 floors right off 35 and Diamond Lake road. Staff was friendly. Free on-street parking. Id definitely go back!

Beautiful. Small, but smart. We spent two hours there. Some fascinating insights in to art in the Soviet Era. Interactive table for children. Also a Scavenger Hunt sheet for children (cause it can be trying to keep an 8 yo in an art museum for 2 hours) Very affordable. Art is up close, photogenic, and distinctive. A great choice for of-the-beaten-path activities. Included is a small sampling of some of the things you will find.

This is an often overlooked Minneapolis resource. They have a wonderful collection of art and objects and their staff are very well informed. During our recent tour the guide gave us a full history lesson from the Russian Revolution all the way through to present time. Also special exhibit featuring local artist Leon Hushcha is fantastic. Finally the setting was impressively reconfigured from a church to museum by renowned local architect Julie Snow. All in all and excellent experience

This place is a hidden gem of a museum. Ive driven past it hundreds of times and never thought about it until one evening when I thought of dropping by.The propaganda posters are amazing. You can easily see the mindset of Russia sitting the Cold War era.Down stairs is the old Russia of the tzars. They have some amazing pieces that were presents to them, or from them. Wonderful craftsmanship.I was told that the displays change several times a year, which will bring me back in a few months to see whats there.Go check it out and support your local museums!

Very modern and clean museum. Quite small so there is not much to see but enough for an hour of entertainment. Basement was a bit dark and scary given the abundance of female mannequins. Has an odd place for gift shop on second floor. The artwork was... uniquely Russian. Ill leave you to interpret that.Happiness is certainly not a focal point of the experience.

A small museum with a very nice collection. We visited over the holidays, and they had an excellent exhibit on Christmas in the Soviet Union that was fascinating from both and artistic and a cultural perspective. There was also some artwork on mushrooms that I thought was cool and quirky. Plus the building itself is pretty cool.

The presentation is well done. Something I didnt know upon my first visit is that the collection consists of rotating portfolios of a limited number of artists. This week the upper floor was divided between two artists and the lower level was all one artist. The feature gallery today was a USSR propaganda poster exhibit. I found the display to be lacking in commentary about the destructiveness of the communist ideology.

I heard about this place and had to check it out. Even more intrigued by the Bodies of the Soviet Union exhibit. They displayed one piece in such a powerful manner I had to sit down to take it all in. The building is adorable and set up to accommodate the art in a cozy open manner. The staff was extremely friendly. The museum store was my heaven. The girl working in there was so nice and we talked about a lot of Russian history and I just thoroughly enjoyed her. I cant wait until they rotate the exhibit so I can go back and add more to my Russia collection!

Ive been to this museum twice as an artist I really like (Leon Huscha) had his works on display for a number of months. It is quite a lovely gallery with all hard wood floors and a second floor (3rd in elevator) that looks down into the lower gallery. Down in the basement they usually have some fabulous Russian Nesting Dolls all beautifully designed and painting. They were renovating this area last time I went so the basement gallery was emptied. I do wish they had a sign letting us know when that area would be available again for items. The staff is extremely courteous, knowledgeable and professional. THere was a wonderful appetizer table including chocolate dipped pineapple, strawberries and kiwi and an open bar. This is NOT the usual, this was closing party for an artist whose work was coming down. I had two kids with me who loved the art and a 90 year old in a wheelchair. There is ramp to get into building and short open top lift that gets you and your wheelchair to the main gallery floor. Elevators are accessible from there for any of the three exhibiting floorsI cant wait to see who might be exhibiting there next!

Im partial to Russian culture and I very much enjoy Russian art, but this place is more than Russian art. Its not just paintings. There is a ton of history. During our November 2019 visit, we saw exhibits featuring Soviet propaganda posters, photos from the Chernobyl aftermath, and traditional Ukrainian garments from the 20th century on display. The shop is also very nice, ranging from affordable trinkets to $1000 handmade figurine sets. Parking is terrible -- street only -- but I still think its worth going and seeing this museum. Just check out their exhibits beforehand to make sure its something youre truly interested in.
