We worked with Gail, Erin, Lisanne, Grace, Dan and many others behind the scenes to coordinate our 11/20/20 wedding. We planned and booked our wedding way before the pandemic even started. Great River worked with us every step of the way. Shortly before our wedding, the numbers of guests had to be lowered per state restrictions. The team at GR came up with innovative and creative ways so we could still have a wedding that are our guests could safely enjoy. The team also worked so incredibly hard to decorate the entire venue for Christmas in ONE AND HALF short days. It was absolutely stunning. Our guests still rave about the venue, the decor, the food, and just the overall atmosphere. We loved doing our first look photographs at various locations on the gorgeous grounds including the amazing waterfall that was still running at the end of November. We were extremely lucky to have a gorgeous weather day. Thank you EVERYONE for providing Kevin and I with a wedding during a global pandemic that was safe and fun for everyone in attendance including your own dedicated staff members.

Remarkable experience for us. Had a wedding and reception there. Flawless! Food was good, and sufficient in quantity. Staff was attentive and accommodating. Bar service was good, with drinks of appropriate strength. It was clean and attractive for us. They did all of the things we needed and expected without flinching on either side.

This place is outstanding wonderful restaurant with friendly friendly people waiters the managers and the food is exquisite from the water on the table to the wonderful menu items including even coffee and dessert. I cant describe how wonderful our time was we sat out on the porch underneath the shade with a nice breeze going enjoying our appetizers first and then getting into huge hamburgers and chicken francese and a wonderful barbecued meal. I cant tell you how much of a great time we had this is definitelyis a five star restaurant thank you everyone there who made it a special night for my wife and our friends

Nice place to sit outside on their back porch. The roof comes over the patio so you arent in the sun. The golf course grounds are real pretty plus past the golf course is the Housatonic River. Beautiful view as you are eating or sipping on a a good drink. Their food prices are very reasonable. We went for lunch, the menu includes soup, sandwiches, hamburgers, several salad choices and more. The restaurant is off the beaten path, unless someone tells you about it, I dont know where you would hear about it. Unless you are a member of the golf club. The flowers driving into the property are beautiful. My husband had a hamburger and said it was very good. I had the strawberry salad that was loaded with strawberries & blueberries. I had a side of chicken salad, I wasnt impressed by it. The chicken pieces were large and it seemed like there was only, celery, onions and mayo. It could of used some herbs, and maybe some nuts and grapes in it. It tasted mainly of onion flavor.

Met my friend halfway to play 36. This was our afternoon round. When we got to the drop off we weren’t exactly certain where to leave our bags and check in. The kid apologized finally and told us to set them down next to the pick up. We left our bags and I left a giant bottle of water next to it. Go up to the first tee. My water was missing and my bag put on backwards. Cool start. We play the entire 9 without the beverage cart girl. It was almost 90 degrees. Awesome. We make the turn where I get water at station. Told the guy at the turn about no cart girl. He had no idea. But we did see her. Same guy now tells us to we have to wait for 15 min because where the wedding was located it was next to par 3. He didn’t want pictures with carts going by. At this point I’m pretty frustrated. I’m paying $140 dollars for this? I voice my discontent to the same man. So he had another guy take us around to the hole number 11 where would come back to ply the par 3 last. We said absolutely. We play two holes. A par five first. As we get to the par 5 green. We See FIVE players teeing off on a par 3. To confirm what we saw. As we come to the par 3 tee box. Indeed a fivesome! As we stand on the par three tee box for five min. Watching one looking for his ball and the others WAITING for him to putt or come up. No one let’s us play through(we are a twosome). My buddy and I agree at now 645 pm 4 holes to go plus the par three we skipped. We were in Trouble not only finishing but waiting or skipping another because of these idiots. So we left and confirmed that they were indeed a hole and a half behind. We get back to the pro shop and express our concerns for a possible refund or free play. Left info and my buddy was told the best they could do was a 9 hole refund.Really? So I come to a semi private course. Pay $140. My bags on backwards. My water is missing. No cart girl. No water. Skipping holes. Playing behind fivesomes. NO ranger. Totally UNACCEPTABLE!! Shame on you guys. Will not be back. There was good thing. The ppl in the restaurant were very nice and I ate slamming burger before I played. Not worth $140 bucks though.

Just played a tournament there today. Course was in great shape, staff was amazing and the food was very good. This is one of the most scenic courses in all of CT. Only thing that wasnt awesome was the greens, and it was only because they had been aerated recently. Nothing you can do about that this time of year.

This place has a wonderful atmosphere! Great for familys, business lunches, weddings, and just about any type of get together for a hearty meal. The menus is catered to meet most visitors taste buds. I do recommend highly the Chicken pot pie. You actually get a lot of tasty chicken in the pie. Its like your grand mom made it. Its great ! Mudslide cake is my choice for desert. Oh Boy! What a choice. Never tasted anything better! Try it! Youll like it! Came back November 30th and had ocean Scallops over crab meat fettuccini. Its was DELICIOUS ! The clam chowder I had was the BEST Ive ever tasted. My wife had a 4 inch thick tasty Pork chop and sides. The chicken Risotto to die for!

We got married on April 27, 2019 and I cannot say enough good things about Great River Golf Club. This venue is a beautiful combination of elegance an intimacy. I worked with Gail, Erin and Julianne and they are all wonderful in their own way. The day of our wedding we felt no stress at all and I wish I could relive that day everyday at Great River. My favorite thing about Great River is that it is an intimate setting and they only hold one wedding at a time. As a bride, this was a big deal for me. To all future brides, I will recommend Great River Golf Club for my entire life !!!

Course was beautiful but for $140 the service needs to be better! Front desk check in was less than kind and we didn’t see a cart on the course once. Not once! Admittedly they said there was only one on the course. It was a perfect Friday with every hole occupied. Are you kidding? Your local competition has you beat in the service department. Step it up.And do not eat at Monty’s. Horrible service and below average food.

Went for lunch on Thursday July 11. Reservation with Lisanne was friendly & courteous. We were gracefully greeted by Julianne who is an exceptional manager of this restaurant. She seated us outside on the porch table which was truly a delight. Very nice summer menu. All three of us had chicken salad sandwich with a side salad. We all liked it very much! Our server Asia was very attentive & polite. Thank you for very much for a relaxing & enjoyable afternoon. We will definitely return.

Went for Easter Brunch and it was great! The service was the best I have experienced in a long while. We called at 2pm on Easter and were greeted with a no problem. The hostess told us to come on down and they sat us very comfortably at the bar. I was a little worried about sitting in the bar with my 70 year old mother, but the atmosphere was very pleasant. The bartender was very sweet and attentive. The food was amazing and I am not usually one for a buffet. I would definitely go back, but call ahead for a table reservation next time!

Great River Golf Club, 4-1/2 stars, is home to a championship golf course that ranks with some of the best in Connecticut. This tree-lined and open parkland layout provides a wonderful test for your all-round game, with many attractive, skilfully crafted and challenging holes to enjoy. A must play if you are in the area.

Evan though it was built with dirty money, this course is awesome and challenging. Its great that Sacred Heart University is now the majority owner. The investment will make SHU the only New England and New York Metropolitan school to offer golf course management as an academic focus.

Review №57

Really disappointing how far this course has fallen. This was my “go to” public course in Fairfield County but after my visit this weekend I won’t be going back for a long time. The greens were always pristine here but they are now in terrible shape. It looks like they have been over treated and over watered. Lots of dead spots. I’ve also noticed a change in the staff - a usually friendly and laid back attitude has changed to stuffy, controlling and inflexible. While still a nice facility overall with the potential for a great golf course it’s not nearly what it once was. Hopefully it can be turned around in the future. Until then I’ll find somewhere else to play.
